I used Adobe Audition and the "modulate" tool around the time I was malimg these. Nowadays I have a Moogerfooger Ring Modulator to do voices.

***** You actually didn't lose much during the world wars, in fact due to taking on former German and Italian territories in Africa and Polynesia and Turkish territories in the Middle East the British empire actually grew after World War I. Ghandhi was immediately after World War II, seeing Indian independence (and originally India included Bengladesh, Pakistan and Nepal as well, so it really was a giant chunk of your empire) in 1947, Burma in 1948 and then the various African territories in the 50's and 60's.
***** It is true, however, that the empire was largely no longer profitable after World War One (although the Falklands remained a British colony in part because they were, oddly enough, one of the few exceptions) and as such, from the standpoint of individual people and human benefit, the British Empire's glory days were largely over. Also, the severe decrease in the profitability of agriculture in the early 1900's largely meant that very few people were interested in becoming colonists, and in fact most of the additional territories that Britain took on after World War One were never materially colonized.
