    Funny, I bought this same amp a year ago and had the same problem that you had...no sound. My amp is sitting behind my cabinet on a small 10" high stand. When I looked down at the amp trying to find problem, the interconnect cables hid the tiny switches. Took me forever to find my issue. This is a great HT amp. I'm using it to push the fronts, JBL HDI-3600 and the SVS

    Good to see another video in this series, congrats on the upgrade! If the Monolith wasn't way out of my budget I'd be curious to A/B test it against the QSC GX3 amp I'm using. On one hand I feel like there has to be a reason for the price difference but on the other I've seen $1,000 power cables I also don't believe there's any audible difference in. Looking forward to a review of those LSiM speakers once they get broke in!

    Just FYI... Yamaha receiver units, at least in the past, have had an issue with their pre-amp outputs with sending out too little current (deviating from electrical reference specs) through to most consumer grade, RCA ended power amplifiers. That may be one reason you are still not getting the volume you expect in comparison to the same volume setting on the receiver as before (in your case, 0 dB). You would, unfortunately, have to change brands (like say to Denon or Marantz or Anthem, etc.) to fix that issue.
    I would also strongly recommend that you go with a larger, more spacious gear rack. You should never stack components and instead give them plenty of breathing room. If you still need assistance with heat generation given a closed cabinet door, I also recommend AC Infinity component coolers for your receiver (or pre-amp) and power amplifier. You can draw heat out of the units from the front or back of the cabinet depending on the model of cooler you get. These components will last a lot longer as well.

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  4 года назад

      Don’t assume things. These models have full output and the cabinet has a fan on the back. There is no issue

    • @dan_hitchman007
      @dan_hitchman007 4 года назад +1

      @@COGuyStuff Okay, I'm just going off best practices as well as issues with some Yammie receiver outputs. That could be an issue. If there isn't enough initial voltage trim on the RCA output, you can get a volume drop and higher distortion output as you raise the overall master volume compared to brands with a correct preamp output signal stength.

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  4 года назад

      Lol it’s not a brand issue. Don’t make blanket statements.

    • @dextermorgan1
      @dextermorgan1 2 года назад

      @@COGuyStuff It is a brand issue. It's commonly known Yamaha pre amp voltage is less than the other big name brands. Audioholics even bench tested Yamaha receivers and confirmed it. The new Yamaha series are the first to have decent pre amp outputs.

The aesthetics of it matching my Marantz SR7012 reciever played a role in my choice, but i really wish i would chose monolith amp. My next house will have a great room (25’x20’), I’m wondering if the Buchhardt’s and a sub would have more trouble than the Polk’s with that size of a room. I’m also curious how the new Polk L600’s compare to the LSiM’s.

    • @DavidEvenson
      @DavidEvenson 4 года назад

      Donovan There are several variables here. My goal in designing my system was to run balanced separates all the way from the DAC to monoblocks. The only way I could do that on my budget was to go with Schiit. I have a gungnir multibit DAC which has balanced outs. Those go into a Freya preamp, also with balanced inputs and outputs into 2 vidar amps in monoblock configuration.
      Oh, and I have a stereo pair of REL 7s.
      It’s on another level from my lsim setup. YMMV.

    They are not stating true watts through the entire frequency range. Like my vintage Pioneer SX 1250 under regulations at the time 165 watts per channel from 20 to 20k, all the way through. I think new stuff is just rated to hit its peak at some point in the frequency range.

      Lol…you come off as cordial on the video and an “over the top” a$$ hole on all these responses…definitely weren’t, or aren’t (years old post) concerned with subscribers I guess 😂
      Not a bad video though

    Question, I have some klipsch speakers which are 100 watts rms and 400 max. Currently giving them about 85 watts off a emotiva a500 amp. Considering a bigger emotiva amp which would be 250 or 275 watts per channel. Do you think that is too much????

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  3 года назад +1

      Only if you turn it up too far. Potential power can not do a thing.

      @@COGuyStuff thank you for taking time to get back to me after watching your video I do want to consider really getting a monolith amp as well I've been looking at the to channel variant.
      At first I was concerned and curious to know why you decided to pair it up with a receiver but I saw then maybe perhaps cuz you have all those speakers because typically people would say you need a preamp would be the best way to go with a power amp if you want good sound quality you want something that has a fantastic DAC in it to pair up good with your power! But some of those can be pretty pricey!
      I know you mentioned to buy wiring doesn't seem to do anything and I know there's a lot of speculation about that topic for many years but for example I have the same speakers lsim 707 hooked up to an integrated amplifier and that's it I've been using it like that for a while however I've been by wiring it to the nth the whole time until last night I decided to try changing it putting back The binding posts and running single cables and the sound is so different and I don't know if it's better I think by wiring definitely opens up the speakers a lot better I don't know maybe you could try it for yourself and see but I really could hear the difference at first was I like hey is it better sounding I don't know then the base and how far the bass drops etc I'm still experimenting with it but I don't know if it's a good change running single cables.
      anyways to get back on topic I think I'm going to pick up this monolith amp and I'm going to pair it with something like a Cambridge audio cxa60 I think something like that would be fairly good and it has a fairly good Dac inside not sure!

    Marketing team at Monoprice should really offer some rebranding options to the ownership. Monoprice sounds like cheap Chineese POS you buy off Aliexpress. Rename it to Monolith? May be?

    Why do these amps weigh so much!? The emotiva 250 watts all 5 channels driven is 40 pounds. The outlaw 120 watts all 5 channels driven is 50 pounds. The monolith is 78 pounds 😬

    With it taking as much power to get to potential of those speakers in my opinion Polk really screwed up. It will cost serious money to get to full potential of those speakers. Also I have a hard time beleiving there is no speakers that can compete for far less money to obtain full potential of other brand speakers. Its a complete fail in my opinion.
