    Piet Arion sounds amazing. The comments that compare Piet and Dimash directly are irrational, mean spirited and cultish, this coming from both extremes on either side. Not all types of voices sound the best in big open areas, not all singers fluent in the language the sing in. This version was engineered to be delicate and nuanced close to the mic to showcase Piet's strengths. Same for Dimash's version which was made to be heard from a mile away.

      Exactly! Both versions are tailored for each individual and they both sing it incredibly well. I just don't understand why people can't just appreciate both Dimash's and Piet's version as they are both incredibly talented and sing the song incredibly well.

      ¿Por qué ofenden? No deberían. 🤷‍♀️

    I cannot listen to Piet singing this without experiencing near emotional breakdown. I’ve listened more times than I can count but my reaction is the same every time - tears, tears and more tears. For me, perfectly executed and with such colour and emotion. It feels like someone is ripping out my heart. I can’t possibly get my head around how he manages to do this! 😭

    Hello, everyone! I have been in a voice conference all day (online, of course) and did not have a chance to check on this video! I apologize! I have removed Dimash's name from the title. I copied it verbatim from Piet's original video. Using the original title is what I always do. I did not think a thing about it for this one. I did not mean any offense to Dimash fans or to Dimash himself. Peace and blessings.

    Some of you so-called Dimash” “Dears” are such hateful fanatics that Dimash Himself would be very very displeased with you if he met you and he would tell you to stop the criticism. Piet loves Dimash and also loves Morissette, Mariah Carey, and Billie Eilish and does tribute songs. to these artists that he admires. The hate spewed by your reactions are shameful. There’s this one Italian fanatic who when I responded to a Dimash song with “ Dimash is the best male pop-op vocalist in the world.” but also mentioned another vocalist who I considered as good in love/love ballads only ripped me for daring to even mention another artist. “ I only listen to Dimash and no one else!!” I understand his love but when he started to call me a fake “ Dear” and used expletives, His hate would really have made Dimash very ashamed at this fanatic. When Piet performed Morissette “Akin Ka Na Lang” he mentioned at the outset he loves her technique. His rendition garnered over 22,000 Likes and over 4000 positive comments 99% were “ Wow! Amazing! Speechless”
    Very few dislikes and no hateful comments.

This at best mediocre singer is a poor fake with no noteable voice in real life, no own interpretations and no knowledge of vocal technics at all. Why do you think you will not find a live performance on a stage with audience? Why do you think his “voice” has no development after 10 years? Piet Arions version gives me more chills than Dimash. Dimash is good. He sounds more like an opera singer, but this guy's interpretation gives me chills because of the way he effortlessly moves from high to low to mid range like a feather lifting up on air. His soft inflection exudes emotion and the angst of emotional urgency portrayed by this song. Without knowing the words it still drove me to emotion to understand this was "SOS d'un Terrien en de'tresse (Sos of an earthling in distress). Note that the translation is off in the first phrase of this song. It should read: (French Lyrics: Poquoi je Vie porquoi je Meur. Porquoi je reir porquoi je pleur) means Why do I live why do I die? Why do I laugh/smile why to I cry. It is the song of someone dying and not feeling comfortable in his own skin while he is here on earth. Stating that life is more beautiful while looking from above and if he could reverse the heaven and earth or juxtapose the two how beautiful it would be.

  • @DukeStreetBill
    @DukeStreetBill 3 года назад +12

    This version is more appropriate to "Starmania," the rock opera for which this was written. Further, Arion'd pronunciation is correct; Dimash made a number of pronunciation errors, chief of which was mispronouncing "haut" (rhymes with "oh") as "hwat." Near the end, Piet does sub "crie" for "ris," but that supports the underlying despair. As a display, Dimash is a smorgasbord of voices and styles; but, even if its lines were unscrambled, it wouldn't fit into "Starmania." Piet Arion could stand in for Daniel Balavoine.

    Thank you so much for your analysis! I know a lot of people compare him to Dimash, which I find unnecessary and unfair (to both of them). Piet, himself, has said he's does not want to be compared to him. Yes, this is a studio version and yes, there is autotune. But you know it's not more than any pop song recorded today, probably less actually, so I don't see the point in attacking Piet for choosing to do this in the studio. He has PLENTY of covers sung without autotune and, frankly, I wish more voice teachers checked out something other than SOS.
    He does all these things with less or no tuning in other songs, so the whistle is real, the belts are real, and the low chest is real-it is just studio appropriated, like any other studio recording.

    Hi Christi, I so enjoy tuning in to your channel, you are delightful to spend some time with. I also appreciate your analysis of the singers voice. Today I watched S.O.S. By Piet Arion. I am Piet’s manager and the owner/CEO of Obelisk Records. I have signed Piet to a recording contract and currently I am finalizing distribution for his upcoming albums. He is truly an amazing singer and person, he has a big heart. His song writing is also very good and original, he has his own sound. People keep comparing him to Dimash and I would like to say that, they each have their own unique voice. The only thing that they have in common is that the both have a big heart and give 100% of themselves in every song they perform. The are both authentic, generous and humble. Just prior to the launch, I will send to you a copy of Piets first release if you like. If you want to do a first reaction, then you can announce that you are the first to react to it prior to its release. It will be interesting because your followers will be having their first reaction to the song/video as well. Of coarse, this is great publicity for Piet, once a manager, I guess always a manager🤷‍♂️. But I do think it would be fun to share an exclusive with folks like yourself. You get suggestions from your followers, this time you could flip that around. Just a thought, let me know how you feel about this.
    On another note, I have to say that the haters follow him around RUclips and wherever they find him they say awful and hurtful things. I advise Piet to ignore them and I try to do the same but today, I read a comment below be Heinz Timmer and I can’t let that go as it is slanderous and career damaging. Piet has a wonderful voice and got a bit depressed by all of this negativity. He was excited to sing this song because he liked it. I think this will die down with the release of his own songs. A freind of mine, Nathan Wang, composes all of the music for the Jackie Chan films and a year ago, December 2019 Nathan recorded Dimash who sang a song for this latest Jackie Chan film. He said that Dimash is truly a nice and very kind person. Nathan said that Dimash doesn’t like that some of his fans can be so mean. I look forward to Piet and Dimash meeting. Hay mucha ignorancia. Deberían escuchar la original). Mi apoyo absoluto a Piet Arion. Posee un gran rango vocal, a pesar de su tesitura aguda, muy buen afinamiento, bonito color de su voz de pecho, tremenda voz de cabeza, con un whistle tone excepcional, elegancia y mucho sentimiento en todas sus interpretaciones. I'm glad we can see many Dimash performances live and know he can do what we hear. I don't know if this is sung without aid of technology, nevertheless his voice is grating on my ears. Not soothing or beautiful to me. If he is hitting those notes without trickery, then good for him. Time to work on tone.

    • @augustjoseph629
      @augustjoseph629 3 года назад +2

      Tonal quality is subjective. I personally do not like the inconsistency of Dimash’s tones - but he is a technical marvel of a singer. Piet’s tone is very angelic, pure, and more sincere, gentle and delicate. In this piece, he is nasally - but it makes his French sound clear.
      Also, Piet has been around since before Dimash, and he has been whistling a long time.
      I think comparing tonal qualities is unfair because they are subjective. You can compare techniques, but Piet is not singing in the style of Dimash. He is singing in his own style, with his own technique, and singing an arrangement similar to Dimash’s.

I don't speak French but yes felt lyrics but had a more understanding of it without translation. Is it a sad song or happy love or not. Life or death. I am finding the comments fascinating. Especially those from those who for some reason seem unable or unwilling to let in the multiple times through this reaction when you'd said that you were not sure what you were really seeing or hearing, including how much of that is live and/or processed, and how interesting it would be to hear him sing this 'live', etc. I don't think I'd ever heard you say it quite so many times in one video, which should be saying a lot about what you are picking up on. It is the first time for me to hear him perform and it is unmistakable that there's talent here. That he is not Dimash is unmistakable, too. But that is okay. He is himself, with his style, be it 'live' or not. He's an artist. A performer. Like you, I WOULD be interested in hearing him sing live, yes, but it is still an interesting performance. I'm not sure why people are offended by the tagging of Dimash (I believe it is a copy from Piet's own title), even though it is very much a 'Dimash style' cover. Perhaps there can be an amending of the title to 'in the style of', but the level of reactivity is interesting to see. Can we accept that people are unique, and one person's talent (with or without auto tune or other means and however they create their performance) does not detract from another person's obvious talent. Is it all a competition? To me this is an interesting exposition on Dimash's cover of that song, which does not take away from Dimash's mastery. FWIW, parts of it indeed did not all feel natural to me, and I wonder how much here is a marriage of human voice and machine processing ... with some notes being almost certainly machine manipulated. Still, the composition remains interesting to listen to and there's plenty of talent there. Of course, people don't have to agree with me. Thank you for the reaction, Christi. Clearly some covers bring up strong emotions in fans ... and are still worthy of listening to IMO.

      See the problem is that one of his former friends ( and manager as well ) told people he hates Dimash with passion but on his channel he says Dimash is his idol !!!
      Also , it's not just auto tune in some parts , what's more dangerous is digital pitch shifting which someone like Vitas has been using for Moe than a decade . Some vocalists online said there's at least an octave shift up in this arrangement . Meaning if I was singing B6 it will be shifted to B7 .
      At last , it's ridiculous to do a cover for one the most difficult French songs and after one of the best ( if not the best vocal technicians on the planet ) elevated it to a higher level , with the intention of doing the song justice and making your idol proud , but you choose to hide yourself behind digital enhancements and pitch shifting while some singers like the Indonesian girl ( I think her name is Lamar ) was invited by Dimash himself to sing with him on a grand stage in front of a huge crowd & he congratulated Leo Cantro ( a small youtuber and an amateur singer ) for doing covers of his songs . Also people like Caleb Coles & Emi Pelligrino made excellent covers and Caleb did the 22 seconds note with runs and riffs from Sinful Passion as best as he could just to show people that if he did it then Dimash surely did it .

      @@kolgerrard1964 I don't know him or his manager so I cannot speak for either of their opinions of Dimash (who, by the way, is an amazing singer, as we all know). I think that looking up to someone doesn't need to mean idolizing them in all matters or hating them (or envying them or aspiring to be like them) in all matters. People are so much more complicated than that, IMO.
      People may do covers for all kinds of reasons and use all kinds of means as artistic measures. I'm not sure it ought to be a competition or be seen as being permitted only to those who use no auto-tune/mixing/pitch-shifting.
      Granted, I like natural voices the best, but I also know many singers use technical processing to enhance/dampen/filter/whatever, especially in recordings. Why is that offensive? Like I said, this is my first time listening to him, so I don't know him. Did he ever claim to use no auto-tune etc.?
      BTW, I'm not sure I understand what is "dangerous" in using digital pitch shifting. I'm not aware that it is harmful.

      Oh my! I've been in a voice conference online all day and only just got on to check the comments. I've removed Dimash's name. (Yes, that was a copy from the original title, which is what I usually do.) I had NO IDEA there was this much emotion going on around this performer. Wowza!

    Piet has never really sung live, but if you want to know what he sounds like without much editing listen to his older songs. His songs from 6 to 10 years ago are MUCH less edited than his newer stuff.

      I mean he has but still, the man can sing. Plus in this song the only auto tune present (could be him just being good with mic) is the echos so its not auto tune. Dunno why people think it is. Its really annoying when people don't use their brains.

      Dumbasses the only auto tune present is the echos. Hell you can argue he isnt using it at all. He could be very good with making the mic echo. He also sang live so stfu it's auto tune bc its not. You can go look at his old vids and though it doesn't sound as good, he can still hit very high notes.

    Curious to your thoughts on Giulia Falcone's take on this piece. I was not aware of the song until I heard her version. Not being a trained vocalist I'd like to think she is 'real' -- but similar to your reaction on the whistle tones by Piet Arion, some of her songs just seem 'too good'. Almost all of her posts from a video perspective are pretty simple without much effect, but the sound seems quite produced.

    If he sounds this good in the studio and has the vocal range he has, I'm sure he would be better live than 90% of modern pop stars.

    The only thing that I don't like (from the perspective of a classically-trained vocalist) is that his voice in the lower register sounds like a different person from the upper registers. For those who are not trained singers, an element to classical singing training is that one's voice in all registers should sound like the same person singing. Now, you might think that a singer may do this to sound unique, but the reality is that it isn't unique. It's far more difficult to sound like the same singer through all registers of one's voice.
    Ok, let me then come back and say that Piet Arion is supremely gifted and talented. My critique was from a technical standpoint and not in any way saying that he is not one of the most gifted singers on the planet. What I am pointing out has more to do with training style and nothing to do with talent. Actually, I really believe that right after recording this version, he could record a version where his voice does sound like the same singer through all registers. I think it is a stylistic choice to not sing in this way. It's actually a popular introduction to modern pop music.

    Really puzzled by your comments "what am I really seeing," as if he was faking or using digital tricks to sing the song. Refrain from such snide comments and just critique his vocal range, intimate relationship to the listeners, and unbelievably high whistle tones, higher than Dimash, he produces. He deserves no less from vocal coaches.
