I'm 42, been into alternative music my whole life, and I'm not straight; it saddens me deeply that today is my first time hearing this angel and discovered he passed away from AIDS. The universe it a B**** for taking such a talent from us so early.
I can't believe my favorite Jobriath song only has a few views on RUclips after 9 years, and isn't on Spotify. More people just NEED to hear this and all of his amazing work. He was such a brilliantly talented artist, it kills me that he's still not getting the recognition he deserves.
@@katie2275 As far as I know, it was first released in 2004, when Morrissey produced the Lonely Planet Boy compilation. It was recorded in 74, for the third album that was never completed.
Ok, I’m 57 years old and thought I knew everything about glam rock, the 70’s and gay artists. Today I ran across a vid on tictok featuring gay recording artists. It was all Gorge Michael, Freddy Mercury, Luther Van dross, and then… wtf is this … Jobriath??? How is it possible that I’ve gone my entire life without knowing of this person and his brilliance? I’ve been so deprived. But no more.

I'd love to know what makes you want to come to blows I'd love a good fight! I am intrigued. I played on almost all of Jobriath's recordings and demos back in the early 70's including a bunch of songs that never made it to the two Elektra albums. While I recognize the piano and voice (piano quite reminiscent of "Good Times", and the voice obviosly Job, the actual sound of this recording, particularly the drums, is so far away from the sound Eddie got back in '71-3 that I am really curious. Where does this come from?
This particular remastered version is from the Lonely Planet Boy compilation put out by Morrissey. Other songs from this era are Weightless, Ducky Lullabye, girl of the night
I can defintitely sense a touhc of the bowies here...I don;t know who influenced who but I was under the impression they were contemporaries. Wasn;t Ziggy Stardust already underway by 1972? I dunno...interesting anyway...
Yes I always thought the same thing,, but I read an article were Bowie was harping on about Jobriath being at everyone of his NY concerts.. Bowie was known for stealing from everyone... Dare I say very Capricorn!!!
Bowie borrowed some style and costuming ideas from both Jobriath and Klaus Nomi. I adored Bowie, but he wasn't known as the Rock & Roll Chameleon for nothing.
Bowie nicked Anthony Newley's whole thing early on in his career. Compare "laughing gnome" with, say, Newley's cover(s) of "pop goes the weasel", especially the vocal delivery

I never heard of this artist until someone recently recommended it. Wow amazing work. He has so much potential! He needs more recognition
Jobraith is a genius, and the music is so well contructed
They didn't want to admit he existed - now every artist under the sun copies him.

I have become obsessed with this song, so friggin good!
He was absolutely brilliant....and generous. I loved him.
I love you for sharing this and adding to my VERY new education about Jobriath. And I think I love him.
Wow he's good..I didn't know about him until popstar Morrissey covered one of his songs 'Morning Starship'👌

this was one of a handful of tracks the touring band recorded, at various studios, while on the road, according to Hayden...

I only found this cool, obscure artist because a friend went to one of Jobriath's shows.
This song kicks ass actually.
A belter of a song. Good topic
Really, an excellent song!
love this tune
I lu lu lu looove JOBRIATH
First time I've heard that one. Pretty complicated. His band worked hard on this.
Jobriath deserved better 😩
I was the muse on this one.
Sure jan

Bowie brilliantly stole from Jobriath.
