I just LOVE Lockwood's playing - he's one of a kind and instantly recognizable. A million guitarists must have stolen his backing chords and turnarounds by now - for all the best reasons in this world. For backing a harmonica on the guitar, he basically wrote the book. His solo style is absolutely unique and rarely copied. His lines are both dazzling and beautiful. A really inventive bluesman on guitar and a soulful singer. Just super classy.
Porto Antico Truth! As far as i know studying, hunting, oral stories etc. he is the ONLY one who Robert Johnson allowed to observe, watch, and thankfully recreate what Robert himself paid the highest price for. You can hear it though in his phrasing, just sweet. Keep sharing what you know of this blues legend so his, and Robert's stories never die. Peace.
You should have seen when I got him out to the Cal State Long Beach Blues Fest hosted by Bernie Pearl! Lovely lovely huge crowd very appreciative lovely day everyone damn near was there!

Robert Lockwood Jr was one of the greats. Too bad he wasn't better known during his lifetime. Thanks for posting this one.

This one here lived 10 years under Robert Johnson and he got teachings from him directly. OH WOW!

Very lovely! Wonderfully subtle guitar (and great Spann-like piano too).
I believe that's Odie Payne on drums that's a an original chess drummer.
Correct. One of the best.
