This video is absolutely amazing, the nostalgia that accompanies the old Metrolink horns and train sets (ESPECIALLY THE OLD CABCARS & F59'S) , railroad crossing bells, and underdevelopment of the Glendale-Burbank area hits me in the feels. Amazing work, amazing video. Thank you for this gem. Never take it down.
I hope when Caltrain gets enough of their EMUs when their system is completely electrified that those Gen 2 Bombardier cars can get refurbished and return back to Metrolink.
I’m now a junior in the year 2024. I come back after I think 9 years now. Love this video, core memory of my childhood. I even had the cab cars as heroes 😭

These were surely the better days of Metrolink. The Bombardier Cab Cars were still active and the MP36s were new at that time. I really love the Bombardiers and the F59s before they were all replaced by the Rotems and F125s
UPDATE: The railroad crossing with the WCH m bell and safetran mechanical bell has now been replaced, also metrolink has now retired all their F59PHIs and F59phs
BNSFGUY7777 Actually, I would say 1994-2012. Metrolink used to have some electric whistles and would have only 3 cars. I miss when cabcars had K5LA's and electric whistles. I still like P2's though.

@Jaanfo I heard one on CSX that that said "Rochester NY Track #1. Defect, repeat defect. Axle ###" It then cut off, so I guess depends on the railroad.
I bid on the new Metrolink yard job in August 1992 as engineer putting the new equipment in service and running PR trains. I ran the first train to turn a wheel on start up morning out of Moorpark on train #100. At that time we had the regular AMT horns,K5LA I think. People complained it was to loud so some genius got the idea to put little tooter whistles on the equipment. They wanted to sound like the old PE Red Cars. Well that went over big with us engineers. I had my last fatality in North Hollywood hitting some kid walking down the track with his back towards me. I was standing on that horn button up to the impact. The kid never new what hit him. Killed him instantly. That was number 9, and the last. Watching this I guess they ought to try something else. I have now idea what a P2 horn is. I used my national seniority and moved to Virginia and ran Virginia Railway Express trains. I retired 1-4-2011.
@Acerailfan3101 F40PH I liked the original F59 engines. You can get out the front as well as the side. I worked with the EMD and Bombardier reps when I helped with the start up, putting all the equipment in service. Great experience. after the start up day, they both treated me to big dinner at Wood Ranch Bar-b-q in Moorpark, Calf. All this was the highlight of my 36 years in engine service. As for the bullet nose F59's, I went to zone 5 in Virginia and did not run them.
Add some of their newer rail cars. Even though LA's rail transit network is hardly as extensive as other places, the Metrolink cars are the cleanest of any commuter rail system I've been on.
so sometime the engine in push position, and when change direction the engine in pull position. so like DMU, only the driver going to other cabin, not the engine..:)

Gotta love those horns! Much better than the clogged-sounding stuff we have on NJ Transit!
This brings back so many memories.
