    Thank you for touching a little bit on POe, I saw one Cisco that got wet but did not die and it sent more than 90 volts AC to its ports....changeling day....

      I guess engineers do not expect the network closet and racked equipment to get water soaked. Most electrical equipment build in some type of short/overload protection. 90VAC would not be a good day for networking inputs!

    Wow the other day I was thinking to myself "Mr V needs to do a video on switches because I was playing around the SFP port on a Cisco switch's doing a daisy chain You just answered my question about that console port! What about web based access to the firmware ? I opened up one of my Cisco switches, like you stated 3 big ASIC's with big heat sinks and a lot of glue logic , along with the switch mode power supply Thanks from fellow Floridian

    Just one question: you say we're going to block applications like PUBG... but are you the best way is with a switch? Don't we need L7 support and app control (app signatures) to do that? Or at least L3/L4 firewalling and going the old way, with IPs and ports?

      I was really just kidding, layer 2 is not a good option for PUBG but you can throttle some apps using QoS depending on the switch. Your point in the comment is correct. Thanks for listening and thinking!!!

    are cat 8 cables being used in enterprises at the moment ?

      It is affordable cable and supports up to 40Gbps which is where many switch uplink ports speeds are becoming more common. Here is the scoop on CAT8: Category 8 cabling has a greater throughput capability; it can support transmission of data up to 40Gbps over balanced twisted pair copper cabling. The solution is a shielded solution--there is no unshielded variant. Therefore, careful attention must be paid to shield terminations when installing the solution. All previous categories of balanced twisted pair copper cabling supported a Permanent Link Length of 90m (295’) and a channel of 100m (328’). Category 8 has a maximum Permanent Link Length of 24m (78’) and a maximum Channel length of 30m (100’) when supporting 25Gbps and 40Gbps speeds. Category 8 cabling can support data speeds of 10Gbps and lower at a full 100m (328’) Channel configuration. When field-testing Category 8 solutions, the installation is tested from 1MHz to 2000MHz, whereas Category 6A balanced twisted pair copper cabling is only field tested from 1MHz to 500MHz.
