- A quick video of Merlina and I connecting. She came to us in 2006 as a young adult raven reared by humans so that early bond was already their. However I was a new kid on the block so basically had to start from scratch with her. Believe me folks it takes time and patience to get to this level with a raven and even then you may never achieve this level of connection, it really depends on the raven... they decide if you are worthy or not. They can see into your soul😊

Crows and ravens used to ravage crops and terrorize farmers and their livestock

My gut tells me that humans used to listen to the sounds of the birds to determine what kind of dangers they might face in a new area.
@@SeekerGoldstone even other birds use birds for that exact purpose.
If you've had birdfeeders for any period of time, you get to know the local alarm birds who alert everybody else.
@@quantumblur_3145 That's communication... I'm talking about using the mimicry of birds as a sort of local signage.
When a bird calls other birds to the feeder, it's trying to announce that there is food to be had.
When the bird mimics the sound of an electrical wire, its not trying to tell me that I can plug my phone in nearby... but I can reason that there must be a power station nearby.
If a bird makes the sound of a big cat, it hasn't tried to share any information with me but I can expect that there are big cats within flying distance.
In a similar way, we didnt invent traffic lights to communicate to birds but in sprawling urban centers, the birds have learned that a green light means it's time to drop nuts for the cars to run over and crack open, while a red light means that it's safe to go eat the nuts from the pavement. We didnt tell them that, they learned to read us. I bet that we used to do the same thing with them.
