    I love how in every song you make you capture the atmosphere. This for example, when I listen to this I get the same feeling I get when I play. A feeling of darkness and uncertainty, I know I'm going to die but I can't help but press on to see what happens next. The melody, that I've heard so many times but I never get sick of it.

      same feeling man! I had this song on playback while I was playing Dark Souls 2 and honestly it was better than the OST, which fell flat and was barely there.

You notice the fear in their voice just when they pronounce his name. You and your team track him down, find him and kill him, easy job. Then, when you turn around, you hear a body rising again.

    Dark souls is a very depressing game when you think about it. Youre trying to be a hero, death isn't the end for you, you just endure torture after torture only to redo everything.

    • @amybrooks4669
      @amybrooks4669 10 лет назад +47

    games about not victory, or power, but about earning every bit of progress you make. death is not the end in these games, it is only the promise of more suffering... in the end, you are not fighting for the flame, or the world. you fight for your right to die, and finally be at peace.

      +The Name's Dust
      Scholar of the First Sin (Name of the expansion, with all the dlc and tweaks (like new ennemies, changed drops, items relocated etc...)) contains the Crowns DLCs, adding new locations and ennemies but mostly Aldia, Scholar of the Sin who gives you the choice to leave the Throne Room if certain requirement are met, and to face him after Nashandra.
      Whilst Dark Arisen is a real expansion with a whole new place and story, Scholar of the First Sin is more of a definitive edition or GOTY of Dark Souls 2.

      Yeah, You Died is quite jokey & fun so I felt a stronger connection would not have worked. I figured subverting it at the end would be more fitting, as that soft, eerie section almost feels like the direct opposite of that song, despite having the same melody :)

As a DS2 fan I'm pretty pleased with it and I'm not sure how many other people got that same impression all because of the "DS2 bad" reaction. After all, if DS2 bad and ER good, how could ER be like DS2??

    • @miracleofsound
      @miracleofsound  10 лет назад +27

      Sometimes I like to 'feel' the words when I sing them (I know that sounds a little bit pretentious but meh) and for me that line, well, I felt that the voice should sound 'tired' to go with the lyrics :)

    • @King_Of_Midgard
      @King_Of_Midgard 10 лет назад +20

      I dont think it's pretentious at all. It's a great thing you put emotion into your work. So many musicians these days will write a song and be feeling certain emotions when doing so, but will sing it like a goddamn chipmunk high off its ass. It pains me when what could be a good song is ruined by laziness on the part of the musician, which is a big part of why I like your work. You actually put work into it and give the songs that feeling of emotion and depth. If what you made was more mainstream I honestly think you could end up remembered as one of the greats; Like Sinatra, or Tenessee Ernie Ford, or Elvis Presley, all because you do put that extra mile in. So many people cannot stand the songs they liked a year or two ago, because it's not new, and they have realised its a bad song, yet people can listen to songs by the greats for years because its an actually good song, and it has the amount of effort put into it by people like you. Please, never get lazy with your work, and keep on making the music we all can listen to and love.

      Personally I think most of the dark creepy tone comes from his use of bells in the song, church-bell size I think, and also a bit from the deep bass and organ, all three are things I absolutely love because of the epic feel they can give, can make you feel like a bbadass or feel like the place you are in is WAY out of your league to handle.

      I think the bells tie in with both the games, because the Bells of Awakening were rung in Dark Souls 1, and they create atmosphere.

    I love every single one of your songs but this has to be one of my favourites. That chorus is so ominous and just plain epic I can't get enough of it. Also it captures the game's atmosphere perfectly, I don't know how you do it.

    Man, your song truly catches the mood and atmosphere of the Dark Souls universe. When my roommate and I are playing, I generally start off my sessions by playing this song, You Died!, and Lordvessel. It's amazing the things that have come out of this series from the fans, and I appreciate it all the more. Keep up the good work!

    I just wanted to thank you for everything you do, ever since I discovered your music you have quickly became one of my favorite musicians. when I listen to you music it reminds me that there is more to gaming than just the games. There is a whole culture with a life of its own filled with music and people and art, and it makes me proud to be a part of it even if my role is small and seemingly insignificant. i thank you for all you have done and i am patiently waiting for your next song. i am looking forward to a some inspired by infamous but i will be happy with anything you release as long as you continue to make your amazing music.

    Especially this piece deserves to be an official PC release trailer for DkS2 (yep, still waiting for it). Great work all in all, hopefully you will keep making content you yourself enjoy, then I have absolutely no gripes with it either (from what I've heard so far).

    Though it is my least favorite of the series - it lacks a fundamental spark present in 1 and 3, and the gameplay is oddly "sticky" - I appreciate a lot of what 2 was trying to do, in how it was trying to be different and tell a unique story.
    Its failing really is in the gameplay and level design - the story and writing is all there.
    It's also nice that the opening cinematic gives your character a motivation other than "chosen one, kill the dude". It shows the curse causing his life to "melt" away from him, losing his wife and child, motivating him to seek the land of Drangleic, which supposedly holds the secret to curing it.

    Just finished DS2 Scholar of the first sin 5 minutes ago. What a great game, and how perfect you catch the atmosphere in this song (like you do always - is there anything else you do except playing games and watching stuff, and then create the perfect ambience songs?). In this song you keep the dark tone, which is the base of the game, and then you give some slight little motivation peaks, just like the game does with the success of beating a boss (Zallen and Lud...never again!). Boy I can't get it out of my head for weeks now. Again, I bow to you!
