I can imagine human kings hiring undead mercenaries. Imagine the fear factor of filling a man with arrows, stabbing and beating him, but he still gets up
+Adam “Teddy” Navigato i mean, that's basically how all videogame enemies must feel when facing a player character. because even in a roguelike, you don't stay dead. you keep coming, again and again and again. undertale does a fantastic deconstruction of that with sans on the genocide route.
Imagine being the Greatest gang of mercenaries, so famous that only kings or lords can hire you. Then one day, a group of nobles want you to kill just a man. You notice the fear in their voice just when they pronounce his name. You and your team track him down, find him and kill him, easy job. Then, when you turn around, you hear a body rising again.
I love how in every song you make you capture the atmosphere. This for example, when I listen to this I get the same feeling I get when I play. A feeling of darkness and uncertainty, I know I'm going to die but I can't help but press on to see what happens next. The melody, that I've heard so many times but I never get sick of it.
same feeling man! I had this song on playback while I was playing Dark Souls 2 and honestly it was better than the OST, which fell flat and was barely there.
Dark souls is a very depressing game when you think about it. Youre trying to be a hero, death isn't the end for you, you just endure torture after torture only to redo everything.
hence why its so satisfying when you do overcome the challenge presented in front of you, knowing that you have the power to cure the undead of their curse and end your own eternal suffering
MY GOD, WAS THAT POWEFUL!! It was really the grand opus that Dark Souls 2 needed ... and dat "You Died" reference... sublime Might as well just say, you got it spot on "Ignite the fires far"
isphus Right at the end, the song slows into a slow drum beat with the tune referencing the "You Died" song The part of "Brave you may be/You think that your mind is tough/Come have a go/if you think you´re hard enough" Starts around 4:15
Honestly feel like ER gives off big DS2 vibes and has a lot of gameplay quirks that remind me of it. As a DS2 fan I'm pretty pleased with it and I'm not sure how many other people got that same impression all because of the "DS2 bad" reaction. After all, if DS2 bad and ER good, how could ER be like DS2??
Yeah, You Died is quite jokey & fun so I felt a stronger connection would not have worked. I figured subverting it at the end would be more fitting, as that soft, eerie section almost feels like the direct opposite of that song, despite having the same melody :)
games about not victory, or power, but about earning every bit of progress you make. death is not the end in these games, it is only the promise of more suffering... in the end, you are not fighting for the flame, or the world. you fight for your right to die, and finally be at peace.

Well Gav... Your songs like this have successfully given the players of my dnd campaign chills during our sessions in dark, horrible places and I love it. This song may be 6+ yrs old but the bar you set will always be high in my eyes. Bravo sir.. Bravo
Sometimes I like to 'feel' the words when I sing them (I know that sounds a little bit pretentious but meh) and for me that line, well, I felt that the voice should sound 'tired' to go with the lyrics :)
I dont think it's pretentious at all. It's a great thing you put emotion into your work. So many musicians these days will write a song and be feeling certain emotions when doing so, but will sing it like a goddamn chipmunk high off its ass. It pains me when what could be a good song is ruined by laziness on the part of the musician, which is a big part of why I like your work. You actually put work into it and give the songs that feeling of emotion and depth. If what you made was more mainstream I honestly think you could end up remembered as one of the greats; Like Sinatra, or Tenessee Ernie Ford, or Elvis Presley, all because you do put that extra mile in. So many people cannot stand the songs they liked a year or two ago, because it's not new, and they have realised its a bad song, yet people can listen to songs by the greats for years because its an actually good song, and it has the amount of effort put into it by people like you. Please, never get lazy with your work, and keep on making the music we all can listen to and love.
I love so much how you can hear underlying pieces of the melody from You Died! This was so chilling! I've been avoiding watching ANY Dark souls 2 videos until I can play it (hard times for PC) but this has tided me over so well until the 25th
I suppose THIS is out 'serious Dark Souls universe' song, to contrast with the sillier-but-no-less-awesome 'You Died'. ...and speaking of, I like how you snuck in the refrain tune from 'You Died' at the end there, as if to foreshadow what our shown adventurer here will probably be doing. A lot.
You managed to make Dark Souls 2 have the better song than your Dark Souls song. That must have taken a good amount of Jolly Cooperation! 3:15- 3:42 is my favorite verse you have sung yet!
i REALLY like the way the world is set up in darksouls lore, a world where darkness may not be total demise and where light may be more of a compforting lie than a real blessing.
I like the way you give songs some elements from older ones if they are relevant, like this one to "You Died" or between "Dream of the Sky" and "Little Sister". Feels very professional.
Man, your song truly catches the mood and atmosphere of the Dark Souls universe. When my roommate and I are playing, I generally start off my sessions by playing this song, You Died!, and Lordvessel. It's amazing the things that have come out of this series from the fans, and I appreciate it all the more. Keep up the good work!
Of all your DS and bloodborne songs this one is my favorite. Honorable mention to "you died". The others lack something, a "je ne sais quoi". But this one and "you died" capture the essence of the souls games perfectly in my opinion.
This song is so impressive. So much atmosphere. I'm really no fan of any kind of metal, but the way you did it sounds so cool, dark, creepy.. just perfect. :D
Personally I think most of the dark creepy tone comes from his use of bells in the song, church-bell size I think, and also a bit from the deep bass and organ, all three are things I absolutely love because of the epic feel they can give, can make you feel like a bbadass or feel like the place you are in is WAY out of your league to handle.
This is badass. So atmospheric but lyrically and melodic fantastic. Just gives a gruelling and epic feel to it and well that's Dark souls in a nutshell.
Spot on. The piano gives the piece a twisted stagger at times for that sublime creepy feeling under your skin while the steady rythem and deep vocals evoke how the undeads journey saps their strength and drains their soul.
This song is 100% definitely going on my Dark Souls playlist. It's not just a good song for Dark Souls, but it's one of the best songs I've heard in a long time.
I love every single one of your songs but this has to be one of my favourites. That chorus is so ominous and just plain epic I can't get enough of it. Also it captures the game's atmosphere perfectly, I don't know how you do it.
The last time you say "the mourning bells are ringing" compared with the video is just so haunting... the only bad part of this song is the fact that it had to end
Gotta say man, I'm a BIG fan of your work, all of it. But you REALLY outdid yourself this time, and made this beautiful game even more astonishing. Way to go. :)
This was the very first song I ever listened from you, and I got to say I have missed a lot of incredible content. It's very motivating to actually hear your improvement through the videos, so thank you for releasing great songs&music and still striving for better. Especially this piece deserves to be an official PC release trailer for DkS2 (yep, still waiting for it). This song. . . sooo very metal. Melodic black metal, specifically. All it needs it a bit more drums and guitar to completely fit the bill on that account. Truly awesome.
Absolutely loved it, Gavin! I adored You Died as a comedic yet genuine depiction of the experience of playing Dark Souls, but this doesn't just capture the tone, feel, and atmosphere of the series; it oozes it, and makes me more excited than ever to pick up Dark Souls II. I've lost count of the number of times I've said this about your work, but you continue to outdo yourself, and I cannot wait to see what else you've got in store! :)
I just wanted to thank you for everything you do, ever since I discovered your music you have quickly became one of my favorite musicians. when I listen to you music it reminds me that there is more to gaming than just the games. There is a whole culture with a life of its own filled with music and people and art, and it makes me proud to be a part of it even if my role is small and seemingly insignificant. i thank you for all you have done and i am patiently waiting for your next song. i am looking forward to a some inspired by infamous but i will be happy with anything you release as long as you continue to make your amazing music.
Yes indeed, it's fast becoming the most exciting new art form out there & I can't wait to see what happens over the next few years :) And yes, am playing Infamous right now so a song is a strong possibility :)
Breathe life into this hollowed vessel of rebirth. Over and over be denied, the peaceful earth. Thats my favorite part of the song by far, and it gives me chills
***** still feels like a port given it still shows the xbox 360 controls rather than keyboard controls in the UI... it's better than the first one in terms of a port, but the PC version could have been better in a few areas...
gaurdianAQ I'm just glad it has proper PC settings. I use a controller because I personally find Keyboard/Mouse controls to be clumsier when playing action games like this. I do wish they'd put the lighting engine back in though >0> looked good, man.
I may just be a bit overly sensitive thanks to the beauty of this game but I adore the power of scene 4:16 in the video as you can really see the cold self reflection that Arthur is having on himself in this scene in the music video.
This song is so well done. It has so many layers, and you can almost feel the pain of playing this game with the way he sings it. Not the usual controller-breaking rage, but rather the absolute bitter feeling of defeat after trying the 100th time to beat a boss
Because of the timestamp overlaying it, the thumbnail image for this always looks like 'Fires Fap' when it shows up on the sidebar rec list. I laugh every time I see it, and then click, because this song never gets old :)
since DS3 has come out a lot more people have come to appreciate dark souls 2 more. I don't really think a lot of people disliked it so much as there's just a lot of morons who just shit on the new stuff cause they're edgy
Not in terms of mechanics, but in DS1 there was a lot more story to invest oneself in. I played Ds2 first and really liked it, but then I found "The Fair Lady" after getting attacked by Quelaag. All I could think was, "What have I done?" I can understand why some peeps are so defensive of the first game, now.
How do you do this! You manage to capture the essence of the game perfectly in both the melody and lyrics! This is legitimately some of the bloody best music about games I have ever heard.
I have listened to this song four times in a row so far with no signs of letting up. I absolutely love the droning chanting and the slow, pounding beat. It perfectly matches how I imagine the exhausted yet determined trudge of the Cursed Hero in Dark Souls 2. Bravo!
This is what I love about miracle of sound. Dark souls one had a catchy song about how hard the game is. Along comes dark souls two and bam, this fucking masterpiece. Keep up the good work man.
I can't decide which Dark Souls song I like more! 'You Died' was brilliant for humor, and really did sum up the game, but this is just amazing, and feels more as the game should! Either way, brilliant as usual Gavin!
+Henry Geoghegan I've attempted to play the first one on PC.... but I can't even figure out the controls because it's basically demanding a controller.
Years later, I still find myself humming this and having to come back. Now THAT is a mark of good songwriting.
Without knowing why
I still can't believe it has literally been years since this song came out. I'm still coming back to it.

I've lost count of the number of times I've said this about your work, but you continue to outdo yourself, and I cannot wait to see what else you've got in store! :)
Gods, this still sounds amazing, even in 2021. A wonderful song, Gavin.
Gives me goosebumps every time...
Nice! Always look forward to your uploads Gav! ;D
Thats my favorite part of the song by far, and it gives me chills
the second he finished the first syllable I got shivers. Damn this was freakin' sweet.
This shouldve been the trailer
Seconded
Thirded
Fourthed
Fifthed
Sixthed
Damn you, this makes me want the PC port even mooore ;A;
I love how dark and oppressive the song is, and it accompanies the video perfectly.
Unlike the first one, it's not a port for the PC on this one, it's actually set up for it.
John Smith That's one of the reasons I want it so badly.
***** I'm not saying FromSoft are the coolest fucking company, but.. Yeah no that's what i'm saying.
Seven years later and I'm still listening to this.
i really like the parts that beginn with "breathe life into this..." and "though kingdoms will fade..."
I may just be a bit overly sensitive thanks to the beauty of this game but I adore the power of scene 4:16 in the video as you can really see the cold self reflection that Arthur is having on himself in this scene in the music video.
Splendid Work! The music perfectly captures the obscure, eerie and menacing atmosphere of Dark Souls II and the Kingdom of Drangleic!
Damn creepy song, but so damn good. One of my favorites man :)
This song captures Dark Souls perfectly.
Dark Souls 2 will aways have a special place in my heart!!!
This song is so well done. It has so many layers, and you can almost feel the pain of playing this game with the way he sings it. Not the usual controller-breaking rage, but rather the absolute bitter feeling of defeat after trying the 100th time to beat a boss
Even in 2019 this song still makes me want to replay dark souls
The only true peace is in the dark.
uxserdvghbjl That's some wise shit
But...but...Praise the Sun!?
Hybirdman Not anymore
Hybirdman Now praise the bonfire and torches))
Honestly would disagree, nothingness aka all white or all black ect nothing else, but on this earth, its as close as you can get.
This was the first of your videos that I saw and now I'm going to subscribe for more masterpieces like this :)
Welcome along!
I'd also recommend twitter if you haven't already
There’s certain RUclips musicians who are just truly gifted. MOS is a well good example of one.
I love the recurring melody from the first song, at the end of this song and in every one of his songs.
Nice thematic callbacks to You Died! :)
Plus that Piano at the end? Oooooooooh so clever.
Because of the timestamp overlaying it, the thumbnail image for this always looks like 'Fires Fap' when it shows up on the sidebar rec list. I laugh every time I see it, and then click, because this song never gets old :)
Poor DS2 didn't get the love it deserved
since DS3 has come out a lot more people have come to appreciate dark souls 2 more. I don't really think a lot of people disliked it so much as there's just a lot of morons who just shit on the new stuff cause they're edgy
True, however, DS1 is still the best...so far. I'll say that that's my opinion, but there are many that agree, bar the edgy mofos.
Not in terms of mechanics, but in DS1 there was a lot more story to invest oneself in. I played Ds2 first and really liked it, but then I found "The Fair Lady" after getting attacked by Quelaag. All I could think was, "What have I done?"
I can understand why some peeps are so defensive of the first game, now.
Because the DS1 (ahem) "pros" refused to adapt to DS2's mechanics
I didn't enjoy 2 nearly as much as 1 or 3.
It just seemed to lack some sort of fundamental spark of intrigue that the others possessed.
How do you do this! You manage to capture the essence of the game perfectly in both the melody and lyrics! This is legitimately some of the bloody best music about games I have ever heard.
This is the kind of song that sends shivers throughout your body. Immediately went and bought it.
Never forget the sage advice of this game:
"Bearer, seek, seek, lest."
Suprisingly, still sounds great on 2x speed.
Somehow I feel that it sounds slightly... Techno? 16-Bit? I don't know, but it sounds awesome!
Where is that option
I thought since it was a slow song it'd sound wierd, but it sounds fucking awesome!!
Some people play games to relax
Some play for fun
Others, just want a game to fuck them, untill they love it! ~Honest Trailers
Great song! :D
Dragonmots Yeah and Dark Souls fucks them with a cock the size of the Empire State Building.
Bloodborne fucks you harder.
WolfkinNorthclaw A vein as long as the San Andreas fault runs down the side.
Random Guy That is one big dong
@@All4Randomness1 I'm gonna be honest. I thought I was good at souls games and blooborne fucked me up. So different in combat.
Best song ever. Лучшая песня!
I can't decide which Dark Souls song I like more!
'You Died' was brilliant for humor, and really did sum up the game, but this is just amazing, and feels more as the game should!
Either way, brilliant as usual Gavin!
First I will say: another brilliant song. But I was thinking of buying either Dark Souls I/II
which would you recommend?
BOTH
miracleofsound Well as I can't decide between the two of them...I'll have to buy both :)
+Henry Geoghegan I'm sure you've made your choice by now, but the first one is superior in my opinion.
Weasle Guts ah yes, a while a go i bought the first game.
+Henry Geoghegan I've attempted to play the first one on PC.... but I can't even figure out the controls because it's basically demanding a controller.
You created an own atmosphere for that song that matches perfectly with the game! Love that song so much!
man i don't even care how much i just bought this for
KEEP IT COMING, GAV.
