Mick Jagger has said they were all just exhausted, the previous five years had been constant drug busts and court cases, the downward spiral and then death of Brian, Altamont, Keith's worsening Heroin addiction, huge financial problems that forced them out of the UK. It is amazing that during this period they recorded Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street, arguably the best four album run in rock history. Goats Head Soup is a good album, very good in parts but, especially with hindsight it is the beginning of the decline
