- Arriving at London Heathrow Airport (LHR). If this is your first visit to London Heathrow Terminal 5 you should find this video helpful for getting an idea of the airport procedures when you arrive at London Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom. This London Heathrow Airport footage is filmed from the disembarkation of our flight (a British Airways flight from Copenhagen), through the walk to arrivals area where we eventually purchase our London Underground rail tickets to London.
Our walk begins where we have just disembarked our plane and are walking through Heathrow Airport´s Terminal 5 towards Immigration / Passport Control. To get to the Heathrow Immigration / Passport Control area we take an Airport Train Shuttle. The Passport Control process at Heathrow Airport was very quick as we used the automated Passport scanner (we are EU citizens). After clearing Immigration we start to make our way to the Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 Baggage Claim area. We quickly claim our luggage and then make our way through the airport Customs area where you choose the red entrance if you have something to declare or the green entrance if you have nothing to declare. Once we have passed Heathrow Airports Customs we find our selves in the Heathrow Airport arrivals. The arrivals area is full of people / chauffeurs waiting to pick up passengers. We have decided that we will make our way into London City with the London Underground (The Tube) and therefore the process of where to buy tickets for the train from Heathrow Airport to London is covered too. In our case we were advised to buy the London Oyster Travel Card, and we give viewers a brief explanation of what that is.
All in all we found that Arriving at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 was easy and the airport signs were very good in pointing us in the right direction. The only issue / confusing part was whether or not we were supposed to use the Airport Shuttle transfer to get to the Immigration area or whether the Heathrow Airport Shuttle Train was only for passengers who had a transfer flight from Heathrow Airport (the train was for both arriving and transferring passengers).
Heathrow Terminal 5, "Heathrow Terminal 5 is an airport terminal at Heathrow Airport, the main airport serving London. Opened in 2008, the main building in the complex is the largest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom. Terminal 5 is currently used exclusively as one of the three global hubs of International Airlines Group, served by British Airways and Iberia... Prior to 2012, the terminal was used solely by British Airways... The terminal was designed to handle 35 million passengers a year. In 2015, Terminal 5 handled 33.1 million passengers on 215,716 flights; 44.6% of the airport's passengers on 46.6% of its flights with an average of 153 passengers per flight. It was the busiest terminal at the airport, measured both by passenger numbers and flight movements..."

Thank you for sharing. My family and I made this trip in 2011 and 2016. In 2011 we didn't know what to expect so it was a sad surprise to find out we had to walk a ways, then go down stairs to the tram that was full, and then all the way back up and through security again. Heathrow is a beautiful airport but if you are transiting through, I recommend doing it when you have a 2+ hour layover for US/Europe flights. In 2016, we landed at Terminal 2 and had to go to Terminal 5, which included a lot of walking, elevators and a bus ride. And security. Again.

My wife and I travel a ton, but our adult grand sons will be traveling alone to meet us in London and we were looking for a video for them to watch to help prepare them for the immigration process. @11:25 Actually, you were supposed to go through the exit marked "Arrivals from the EU". This is because at the time EU and UK were in the same customs union. Your luggage tags would have had a green stripe on them and this lets any inspectors know that your bags were tagged at an airport in the customs union.
I will be travelling from EWR to LHR on july 14 - 19 2023. 1st time to the Uk. Staying in Ealing. Found this video informative.

I went to London June 2019.
I found very much walking and rather confusing when I came to the train to get my luggage.
I think it is a good idea for Heathrow Airport T5 to give some walking aids to senior citizens as
there is too much walking up and down. As I am in my 70, I find it extremely tired when I came to collect my luggage.
Therefore when I came back to Singapore I found it so much easier and fast to collect my luggage.

Thank you for that informative video. I will arrive in 2 1/2 weeks and was questioning how long of a walk and do I need a luggage carrier. You don’t mention much about customs was that easy to go through since you were arriving? Taking the train to baggage claim seemed a bit scary but after your video, I feel quite confident I’ll be able to find my way. Thank you again

HINT: Before leaving home, buy a visitor Oyster card, these cost £3 *each* plus P+P*
You can also purchase Oyster cards in London but these cost £5 *each*
* Post and Packaging
EDIT: You can also take TFL Rail but first the inter-terminal transfer from T5 to T 1,2,3, then TFL Rail to Paddington from Heathrow Central (T2+3)
Then you could also take the Heathrow Express service which you take from T5 to Paddington
If you do TFL Rail or Heathrow Express, then:
Exit Paddington National Rail station and follow the signs for the Circle Line (yellow in colour) which you take the WESTBOUND circle line train which drops you off at South Kensington.
NOTICE: One single loop of the Circle line (including the branch down to Hammersmith) means you stop at Paddington TWICE), If it helps, follow signs for the DISTRICT Line (green in colour) which shares the Circle Line platforms at Paddington, on the first time when a train has come from Hammersmith, it stops at the Hammersmith and City Line platforms.

Hi M & M really great piece of information for anyone who hasn't travelled through Heathrow before. I hope you enjoyed your London trip, we were born and bread in London, but haven't been back for many years now, hubby used to work for Heathrow and loved it. Found this video extremely helpful. Quick question? Has anyone used the walkway? Does it lead you to arrivals? I’m traveling to heathrow soon and extremely nervous and have bad anxiety.
11:30 not that it would make any real difference, but the "door"/channel/hallway on the left (blue door) is for arrivals from within the EU (including Copenhagen as in this case) and the green one is for nothing to declare (presumably for passengers arriving from outside of the EU)
