I don’t understand why people move near to an airport, then complain about the noise, and when offered the value of their house twice over, refuse to move
Most residents have lived in the area all their lives. Parents and grandparents lived here. Some move to the area because of work (not at airport). For many, it’s affordability. And how many can afford to be in London, near a place they work, but cannot afford to move out of the area. It’s not just about the money. Where to move to? How old are the people? Where do the work? Do they have children? There’s a lot more to it than selling your house for thrice the price. Great if you are single or a young couple. Maybe not so much if circumstances are different.
KiloOneThree they were offered twice to in some cases four times the value of their houses, which are worth anywhere between 250-450,000 pounds, which is more than enough to buy a house in an expensive are of london. Even if they’d lived there their whole lives, the airport was there first, only people who would be upwards of 80 would have been there their whole lives. And jobs? The money they were offered would easily get them a house AND a car or whatever. Plus the way the whole of London is connected means it’s cheap and very easy to get to almost anywhere, especially near such a massive infrastructure monument such as Heathrow. It is unreasonable the way these resident are acting. How much Heathrow airport contributes to the WHOLE country’s economy, and how much a third runway would increase that is so substantial I’m surprised the government didn’t just evict these people
Ryan M. Either you don’t live and work in London, or you do, but it is nowhere near/under a flight path, and you are in a well paid job and/or on a quick and easy path from to work and home by public transport. Or you work for one of the groups working on the expansion. London is not all connected, and it’s not “cheap and easy” to get everywhere. Tube, rail, bus travel can be sucky at the best of times, as can be car travel. Sounds like you are alright, but not everyone is as flush as you. And do you consider all those many more who live in the surrounding areas who would be affected, but are not in zones that were or will bought out. Add to that, even more thousands will be affected by noise who previously were not. Whilst I acknowledge that the expansion would overtime benefit the U.K. and reduce the number of delayed flights (personal experience), it’s easy to think about the greater good, if you are not directly impacted. How we are to become carbon neutral by 2050, I don’t know. Heathrow should buy out or just evict onto the streets, everyone and everything within a 10-15km radius, and make all this surrounding area a green zone. That would stop any future complaints, right? Edit: I’d love to the see how nice it would be to enjoy a green space near the airport, with low flying aircraft constantly overhead. Lovely picnic lol
KiloOneThree Actually if you go to Kew Gardens while runway 27 is active, you can experience firsthand how useless the green space near the airport is for any sort of leisure. Aircraft are flying 1500ft above your head every minute, might as well sell ear buds in the souvenir shop.
What an excellent expansion plan! I'm sure that the green spaces mentioned won't have any noise pollution, or that any homes will be destroyed, or whether carbon emissions will blow through the roof, or...
Building a runway is a lot of effort. Manchester is a two-runway airport which currently handles 35% the passenger capacity of LHR. Would it not be cheaper/more efficient to add better infrastructure to MAN? With HS2 completed in the 2030s, it will effectively serve London too.
@@therealdave06 The villages may have been there before the airport, but the current residents almost certainly only appeared after the airport was built.
Pause at 3:22 - we've got a runway incursion about to happen on 09R, with a plane entering the runway and another plane going around, and on the new 27C, a plane on a dangerously long landing, in the wrong direction. Did they connect up tower before opening?
They are doing the most to facilitate this expansion to be as smooth and advantageous for the locals and the wider region as a whole. This is essentially free regeneration as far as I see it.
I strongly disagree. Firstly this is an area that is full and teeming with well built residential areas, farmland and regenerated moorland already. It is not a barren unlived in area What they wont talk about is that the area they plan on demolishing used to be a waste heap. It was so poisonious they actually have generators that reduce the toxicity of the earth there (this is harmondsworth moor im talking about) currently north of the airport on the left of the picture. This area was built as a result of collaboration between the council and the business park involved with the airport and is a perfect example of how to correctly regenerate an area. But we dont have councillors looking after us any more so this proposed "regeneration" looks far more aggeesive in comparison. Additionally the north side of the airport is home to HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people in west drayton hayes stockley uxbridge cowley and denham sipson and harmondsworth. These areas already suffer from high pollution being sandwiched in between the M25 and the M4 i live on the coast but when i visit my parents there within 3 days im coughing out black stuff from the pollution. Currently the north side does not experience noise pollution from the airport just from the motorways. I hope this wont ruin our environment there. Also the areas they plan on destroying include communities that existed BEFORE the airport was built. Some listed buildings are more than 800 years old but will be destroyed like the famous barn in harmondsworth. Many of my family members have worked in around and for the airport at times. Its the reason they moved to live there to work to help improve our communities. Their commitment is klnow rewardes with a runway less than 800 metres from their house. Heathrow can talk about the neccessity of expansion but they already have one of the largest and highest capacity airports in the world. This expansion is for rich bussiness and economic reasons not for the land or the people. Im not against industrial progress but i dont want to see our homes ruined. ER help us pls
Alex Rogers . It looks like you’re very passionate about this subject so copy it over to the consultation since sending it here won’t really help. Either way you haven’t convinced me. I just can’t justify not doing this project since it’s so important for the nation. Honestly if I lived in the area I would be exhilarated at the free regeneration and growth this would bring and of course the compensation money too. I hate to sound like a commie but at this point we all have to do something for the common good of the nation. To compete globally it’s the only way!
@@R3adybreck Its not like any of the infrastructure you mention is new? Heathrow has been there for over 60 years and the motorways have been there for coming on for 50. People move there knowing that there is an airport there and have known for years there have been plans to expand it. The flight paths for the new runway mirror that of the existing runways so the planes will be less than 1000m further north than they currently already fly.

Expansion of Gatwick would primarily serve holiday travelers during peak travel season (the late spring and early summer months), and serve Norwegian Air Shuttle (operationally separate from Norwegian Air operations out of Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm). Expansion of Stansted and Luton would likely only serve low-cost airlines like Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling, and others. Heathrow expansion will serve flights with business travelers to North America, India, East Asia, Australia, and business-heavy South American destinations like Rio, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Bogota. Although, British Airways partner Iberia will likely offer connecting itineraries (through Madrid) to more South American destinations, as well as additional seats through South American carriers’ flights to Madrid, more so than nonstop routes to London on South American carriers, thanks to cultural ties between Spain and Latin America. Expansion of Heathrow will also deliver benefits to air cargo operations, thanks to Heathrow’s investment in its air cargo terminal(s). It will make more long-haul destinations financially viable, thanks to air cargo revenue helping to keep economy ticket prices reasonable even if initial load factors aren’t up to scratch. That’s why Heathrow expansion is, in the long run, a better solution than expanding other airports. It’s economies of scale for air cargo, business travelers, and year-round service. With the demise of several low-cost and holiday package airlines in the last 5 years, putting investment into the primary London airport for legacy carriers is the least likely airport expansion to end up being a waste of funds, public or private.
The T5 extension will displace wildlife habitats going back hundreds of years. Small wooded areas and not forgetting the river that runs through, with natural river beds. I'm pro expansion but being somebody who walks this area weekly, it will have a massive impact on the wildlife ecosystem there. When and if work starts, wildlife will be stuck between groundwork with the T5 Extension and the M25 with nowhere to go. Have you considered this? What plans do you have in place for ensuring current wildlife is moved to other areas? I'm a huge aviation fan but the T5 Extension I'm afraid cuts way too deep into the green area and will also impact traffic flow in local villages, Wraysbury, Datchet, Poyle and Colnbrook.
I drive past LHR on the M25 everyday, the tunnel over the road will undoubtedly take an age to build and cause even more traffic. Why can't we build a new airport somewhere else, or expand Luton/Gatwick?
I take it you have missed the last 15 years of debate entirely to ask that! Because this is the best solution for the UK economy, environment and local residents to the major airports.
A man has started expanded Heathrow in LEGO CITY LONDON!!! Start the new LHRExpander!!! *HEY* Build the expander!! And wreck the neighborhood!!! Then, build the third runway!!!!! The new Heathrow expansion collection by LEGOLONDON
What I rekon is, you should build a new airport, with a circular runway, connect with existing airports with a combination of Hyperloop and solar frikin roadways. Job done! I'll expect my cheque by the end of the month. Cheers
Circular runway.. And you expect that to work how exactly? Planes going around and around in circles? They would hit each other. Planes come into land at around 150-200MPH.. How are you going to expect them to be able to turn in a circle WHILST going that speed? Or how would they take off while going in a circle as turning would cause the speed to lower? Physics doesn't work like that my friend. That's like having a roundabout and trying to land a plane on it, it won't work, especially with several planes on it at several different speeds that would just be a crash fest waiting to happen...
@@charliemccameron4812 I hope your not doubting my qualification to suggest a circular runway. I have watched most of a RUclips video that explains just what an amazing idea this is and how it will solve many problems that the author said exist. It's on the internet, so it can't be a bad idea.

2026 for the 3rd runway and construction completing for 2050!?? If this plan goes ahead, I'm sure by 2050 we will need a 4th runway as well. Why is everybody so blinkered about Heathrow. Both Stansted and Gatwick are having single runways right now. Building extra runways at these sites could be better. Also, both STN and LGW have less things around them to demolish (and rebuild) as well.
yeah but Gatwick and especially Stansted are too far out to be "convenient" for a lot of people and the transport links are nowhere near as good. Heathrow is the airport in most demand because of the location.
@@MissVickixoxo I agree with your comments regarding LGW and STN transport links. But I believe any expansion plans at any site would require upgrading of transport links as well. At least one thing good regarding LHR is that crossrail is completing (eventually).
Be fair. She does say at 2:53 that they aim to preserve the character of local communities. Annihilating two entire villages sounds like that’s in the spirit of things.
So where else are they gonna put it ? There is the best option since it involves the least amount of destruction. Why should a couple of villages of a few hundred people have an impact on the advantages that this expansion will have for millions ?
On any airport runway in the world, u wl find two numbers written at both the two ends of the runway. What's the meaning/significance of these two numbers and what's the difference between the two numbers n why is the difference always constant for all the runways in the world ?
You dont "need" to expand. Expanding will literally cause chose for London. London is runny at 100 percent capacity mainly because of the amount of tourists Heathrow brings in. Expanding Heathrow will just make it worse.
If the runway was built there would actually be a smaller environmental impact than if they did not build it; planes release the most emissions when taxiing on the ground, so faster takeoffs means the less emissions there would be

@@KiloOneThree Well they are the ones who chose to live near an airport. So they forfeit their right to complain.
A fourth runway will been more beneficial to the neighborhoods of Heathrow.
What neighbourhoods? They’re gonna get demolished
Wow this is going to look spectacular great way of using the space and helping out the community. Cant wait to see this done!!
What an excellent expansion plan! I'm sure that the green spaces mentioned won't have any noise pollution, or that any homes will be destroyed, or whether carbon emissions will blow through the roof, or...
Amazing. Such clever, visionary people undertaking this gigantic project. Can't wait to see it come to fruition.
The Animations are mind-blowing and taught me loads of stuff about the future of LHR, which is my favourite airport. Thx for the vid LHR.
Building a runway is a lot of effort. Manchester is a two-runway airport which currently handles 35% the passenger capacity of LHR. Would it not be cheaper/more efficient to add better infrastructure to MAN? With HS2 completed in the 2030s, it will effectively serve London too.
Always thought this. Rather than expand lhr why not move more traffic north 🤷♀️
Or Gatwick 🤷♂️
So are they going to widen the m25 so its like an downtown LA freeway 16+ lanes across? Or is more traffic the plan.
"...one of the most sustainable airport hubs in the world..."
Singapore Changi: *laughs in Singlish*

Awesome airport plan Heathrow! I honestly wish this will work out the best for everyone.

Pause at 3:22 - we've got a runway incursion about to happen on 09R, with a plane entering the runway and another plane going around, and on the new 27C, a plane on a dangerously long landing, in the wrong direction. Did they connect up tower before opening?
FREAKING FINALLY, heathrow really needs to expand and this seems sustainable. kudos to your construction plans
Heathrow: "We want to be good neighbours"
Heathrow 0.2 seconds later : demolishes all the neighbours
Cass 123 can’t be a bad neighbour if there are no neighbours 🤣
We will work with our neighbours: they watch, we demolish
What is the point of making Heathrow a cargo airport? Wouldn't that be just as good in Luton or Gatwick?
I’m all for this but one question is what will happen to the displaced inhabitants caused by the new runway?

Do you employ pilots with no experience? I need a job.
Pilots with no experience? Yes. They are called women. It's diversity hiring and airlines love it.

With the demise of several low-cost and holiday package airlines in the last 5 years, putting investment into the primary London airport for legacy carriers is the least likely airport expansion to end up being a waste of funds, public or private.

hahaha I'd forgotten this. Was it Monty Python?

well you should be if you want luggage back intact...?
Brilliant ideas. People saying otherwise clearly don't want an economy of which we can all enjoy!

Why can’t we build at Luton or Gatwick?
Because they're a nuisance to get to from Central London; that's in comparison to Luton or Gatwick.
Rip Longford and Harmondsworth 700 A.D.-
Now it’s noisy what is going to be with new runway…. I live next to terminal 5 bath rd
By 2026 😂 probably the biggest aspiration in the video along with being ‘ greener ‘ . Impossible when your actually building another runway 🤥
So how many new speed cameras are you planning to install?
Sounds like a plan! What about avgeeks? Are we going to have some top notch spotting locations, similar to what Manchester airport has done?
Probably not because Heathrow Airport Ltd doesn't make any money out of avgeeks, that's why there are no landside facilities now
Any great for plane spotting like top of the building?
Hey Newark Airport, take notes... Use Heathrow and the RPAs plan as a guide... PLEASE

Solution = nationalise the railways. Including crossrail and hs2 then it wont cost 300 quid to get a train to manchester
@@MissVickixoxo I agree with your comments regarding LGW and STN transport links. But I believe any expansion plans at any site would require upgrading of transport links as well. At least one thing good regarding LHR is that crossrail is completing (eventually).
How about closing it and use the multiples other airports in London ?
Would you rather scramble across a literal metropolis or across an airport?
Keyword: "Preferred" versus "approved." Let's hope this finally gets done.
You don't just need a 3rd runway but a runway running North to South for use in strong cross winds.

“All they have to do is destroy an entire village”
- Jay Foreman
You very quickly clear those people's houses away at 0:40 don't you?
Hello. Ok, so one new runway. Eg, there can be 2 for arrivals and 1 for departures but won't this just back up departures?
That’s literally covering up the whole Harmondsworth and West Drayton
On any airport runway in the world, u wl find two numbers written at both the two ends of the runway.
What's the meaning/significance of these two numbers and what's the difference between the two numbers n why is the difference always constant for all the runways in the world ?
You dont "need" to expand. Expanding will literally cause chose for London. London is runny at 100 percent capacity mainly because of the amount of tourists Heathrow brings in. Expanding Heathrow will just make it worse.
@Conor Malone did you read my full comment?
@Conor Malone yes it's running at max but London itself is also running at max. Expanding will make it worse.
when will it be completed in 210 0 with all those constructions
If the runway was built there would actually be a smaller environmental impact than if they did not build it; planes release the most emissions when taxiing on the ground, so faster takeoffs means the less emissions there would be
That's hilarious 😆
Effected or affected? 🤔
affected, and this from an American
