    Nice welder. I am an apprentice. I clicked on the video because I saw the HOBART welder. I am using the 210MVP (belongs to my boss) easy to use and works all the time. For personal use I am considering buying the machine you have. Good review, thanks a bunch.👍👍

    I used this Hobart 140 as a body man for over 10 years and never had it over heat nor did any of my associates when they used it. This is a great MIG welder. Good job explaining pros and cons.

    I also got the 140 around the time you did. More than paid for itself. My garage has only 15 amp service and I didn't feel like pulling 12 ga. to rewire it, so I use my 5500 watt generator with a 25 ft.,12 ga. extension cord. Works great.

      I bought about a week ago. It is a good welder! Welding cart was the first project.
      Small world story, I just moved to Az right in the same valley as Zuke motorsports. Been planning it for years. Im a mechanic and I was looking at craigslist for Jobs in the area about four months ago, and they had an ad to hire a Suzuki mechanic. Then 3 months later I was doing welder reasearch and saw the Zuke hand written address on your background in the video. So weird man!
      Always liked the Samurai; cool that people still make aftermarket for them. They are so classic now. I have a fj80 landcruiser that I will building many parts with my new welder.

    This machine is really good. Very solid machine. Runs Flux Cored wire really well. Even weld stainless steel and aluminum with this machine. It's not just a machine for small jobs. It can handle good work. Nothing like production level work but home shop or traveling welding machine it's amazing actually. Make sure the settings are setup properly and it's going to run good looking strong welds. Watch your technique for push VS pull and wire /gun angle too.! I love my Hobart Handler 140 amp machine. Don't hesitate if this is in your price range.! Well worth the price. Run it without Gas anywhere using Flux Cored wire on electrode negative! Takes gas for solid wire, stainless, or aluminum welding. This machine can get you started on Flux without additional costs up front as well.. 👌🏻

    Great vid man! You described that welder perfectly. I used to have that exact welder, i burned over 200lbs of wire in it while i had it, never skipped a beat.
    I eventually upgraded to a knock off of a lincoln 210 that is 220v or 110v, does dc tig and arc as well. Very happy with this new machine.
    Any body who buys the hobart 140 will definitely be happy with it...Great machine!

    Hobart Brothers was family-owned and operated until its acquisition by Illinois Tool Works (ITW) in 1996. ITW is a multinational manufacturer of a diversified range of value-adding and short-lead-time industrial products and equipment, and is also the parent company of Miller Electric Mfg. I just bought the Hobart 190 ..

    I bought a Hobart Handler 140 13 years ago from Northern Tool and it's still going strong! I don't regret my purchase either. I even upgraded it so that it accepts a spool gun. I bought the kit from B&R Welding. Works flawlessly. I think you made a good choice! Mine has the purge feature on it with only 4 heat settings. My welder also came with the Miller M-10 gun as well. There are a lot of Miller parts that interchange with the Hobart. Do a little research and you'll be surprised. Great review by the way!

      1Crazee_J, you put a spool gun on it!!! That's awesome, I actually really love my 140, I'll look into that kit you got so I can share it with everyone.

      If you decide to upgrade your welder later down the road, you can transfer that spool gun adaptor to your newer 220 volt unit providing it's either a Milller or Hobart.

    Just got this welder and used it for the first time. Overall very simple setup out of the box. Was welding withing 10 minutes of opening it up. I chose this welder for the obvious reason stated in your video....it runs on 120v AC and I needed to do welding remote from utility power. I am using a Champion 4000 generator and its just a bit underpowered. The welder gives the genset all it wants and you can tell the voltage drops as the weld effectiveness drops off. I might need to upsize my genny.

It is at Air Gas getting repaired. If it can not be fixed I WILL buy another Hobart it is a strong machine and worked perfect for me. It was my first welder.

    Miller and Hobart are not the same, but owned by same company (or Miller, cant remember) and they do share some parts. i just bought a week ago the latest model of this welder. fiddled with it but not used yet i am an experienced welder, autobody is my industry. this will handle anything on a car up to and including the frame. it will handle spring pads and shock mounts on a solid axle with ease. this also will do the weld in bungs for making your own steering rods for 4x4 fab. great vid thanks for taking the time to make and share.

    Good choice for DIY on the Rig. Your discription is very good to make decision about the right welder. I like the drive assembly in metal too! Another very good feature is the easy way to change the polarity if you go out of gas and have a spare fluxcore Wire.
    10 Minutes worktime is enough for the most weldings on a Rig.
    That you have taken the trouble to one of the important tools for the conversion and repair of a Rig - it help a lot.

    • @ELKMotorsports
      @ELKMotorsports  5 лет назад

      ken Bullock, I hear you. While I really can't recommend one process over another. You really need to think about what you're trying to achieve. Both processes allow you to weld just about anything short or magnesium and titanium. The consumables on stick are a lot cheaper than MIG. And stick is a little bit more difficult to get down than MIG. But with that said, stick is great because it really preps you for TIG and you learn so much while your welding. You can also weld outside in the wind, wet, dirt and grim. MIG will be more aesthetically pleasing faster, but requires a lot more prep to the work piece, expensive consumables, and a more controlled environment. I hope this helps.

      @ELKMotorsports  6 лет назад +3

      Juan Melendez, yes I do weld in the garage. My floor is concrete, if that is the concern about welding. The sparks really don't fly far. Just like in a shop, don't have any flammable close to where you're welding, keep it clean and swept. Really just good housekeeping will eliminate 99% of your fire hazards.

    You can’t weld stainless with that?!?? I need something to do basic welds along with stainless. 120v preferred.

    • @ELKMotorsports
      @ELKMotorsports  5 лет назад

      You can weld stainless with a MIG machine, but it requires a tri gas mix and stainless wire. And if it's going to be pipe, you will need to purge the inside of the pipe with an inert gas, like argon, so that would be another bottle of gas and another regulator. But it really depends on what it is your going to be welding. I've welded stainless with this MIG using regular mild steel wire and its welded fine. To note though it was any high quality stainless steel and the weld, unless painted will rust. And with pipe, on the inside the weld will crystallize.

      @ELKMotorsports  6 лет назад +1

      Cary Christian, I'm not entirely sure, I've never run it through my MIG machine. Should be a problem tio get that info at the welding supply store. But with this welder your going tio need to get a lead with a different type of liner in it as to not damage the aluminum wire. Sorry, I hope this helps.

    • @Ohiocountryboy-se2cn
      @Ohiocountryboy-se2cn 4 года назад

      You have to use a spool gun to weld aluminum with a mig welder

    • @ELKMotorsports
      @ELKMotorsports  4 года назад

      Well no, not at all. You actually don’t even need a Teflon line ether for the MIG gun. But you run into more obstacles by not using a spool gun. Without a spool gun you are forced to keep the MIG gun and cable almost completely straight, and I mean not even a dip in the cable that usually happens coming off the cart. A normal liner would have to be so clean that it would have to be damn near new, you don’t want any steel powder residue from the ER70S-6 or Flux core wire that you normally would be using. The roller tension would have to be just enough to feed the wire and no more so you don’t crush it, so the shorter the cable the better. You also don’t want any tension on the spool adapter, as to not require a lot of Drive roller tension. And the distance from the Drive roller to liner required would need to be almost non existent to further aid in preventing bird nesting the soft aluminum wire. So no you don’t need a spool gun, but with the amount of Setup and trail and error it would be far more efficient to just run a spool gun. You can convert the Handler 140 to run the spool gun you will just be limited 1/8” thick max and it couldn’t be very big ether as aluminum dissipates heat twice the rate of steel.

    • @ELKMotorsports

      Yes, only thing is, the samurai sheet metal is very thin. So you need to do low amps and allow for cooling down between tacs. Or if you are going to replace with another piece of metal just overlap and use a little thicker sheet metal for the repair.
