Nice spool guns you got there. I've never used one, but I am looking forward to try. Since, I already have the welder (HOBART 210), I want to go for it. Thank you for the comparison.👍👍
This was the exact video i was looking for. The nozzle and contact tips can be switched between the 2 units pretty sure, but yeah they change the diameters so you have to buy the specific brand.
Doesn't matter about the backends on these guns they both use coax mig cables that have standard threads and 2 white wires for the trigger and 2 wires for the motor (red and green). I've used mine on a forney MP machine with a European style plug. So you can buy either and simply rewire the low voltage wires.
Do you have to use a spool gun for aluminum? I have just a couple little spots to weld on my john boat and was wondering if I just got a spool of aluminum and put it in my Hobart?
The 210 and 211 are different in that the Hobart is a transformer machine, and the Miller is inverter. Different power technologies. I would imagine that's why they made a different plug for each. I have the 210, and for the cost, I'm glad I do
I suspect the difference between the Miller and Hobart Lug Connector is because they weren't always the same company. The difference in lug design probably dates back to before the merger.
Correct Calvin Handley. Hobart made welders for many years and they were pretty well built, but they couldn't compete with Miller (Big Blue) and Lincoln (Big Red) so Miller bought them out I am guessing in the mid 90's ? It was smart that Miller kept the Hobart name which allowed them to get into the low end/hobbyist market, as they make much more expensive heavy industrial machines. In the early 80's when I learned to weld at school we had all Miller's and one Lincoln flux core ( which we never used). They were big heavy transformer,s (no inverters back then) 480 volt 3-phase probably 300 to 400 amps and maybe 80% duty cycle and they never gave us any problems. They were probably 20 years old back then and I bet they are still using them today.
I got the best results using 220 volt and .035 4340 alum wire .you have to know what type of aluminum you are welding to use the correct type of alum wire
The Miller welders and the Hobart Ironman is identical! There’s no difference. My son’s Miller 211 spool gun 150 runs on my iron man 230 my beefy 200 amp Ironman spool gun runs on my son’s Miller 211! Millerwelds will ether try and tell you it won’t work or when you tell them you have already done it they just hang up on you because they know you have figured out a secret.

Thanks for the video upload. I was wondering what the differences were, besides the price tag.

Well crap...the miller is nearly $500 now in 2020. I was hoping to use the hobart. Thanks for the video.
we use a Hobart on a miller 140 at work. they work correctly and it went in exactly like I was supposed to
Is the miller spool gun for the 250 amp mig welder??? Thats why the lug is larger in diameter.
@11:12 the one in the bottom with a kink in the feeding line is the Hobart😂

@@davidmarquardt2445 miller didn't buy them, ITW bought miller and Hobart
Curios to know if internal connections are different.
Informative video.
muted sound due to music in the background, turned on CC. Good video, don't know why you need music?

You can switch the lug, just buy a Miller connecting lug and pin correctly.
Have you tried this I’m very interested I have a Miller 185 and was wondering if this would work. Or by making a adapter with my lathe
You can buy an aftermarket one for about $100. Looks identical, made in China just like Hobart.
set the tension for the spool gun very low ,1/2 turn on the screw on the spool gun .
both are owned by Illinois Tool Company
the .030 is the wire diameter
Wow those have to be made in China they are identical other than lugs and stickers. Its like the ford tempo and Mercury topaz

Just to let you know hobart is made by miller.
