Batman the animated series is amazing, but I think that X-Men TAS also deserves a lot of recognition. But the biggest offence was his relationship with Rogue, who turns on Charles after the Genosha attack, where she sees Gambit die and commits vengeance against the perpetrator of the attack. hearing you talk about a show i’ve never seen is so good and gets me so hyped for when you eventually get around to spectacular spiderman, can’t wait man, keep up the great work
The reason why the art design changed so dramatically during the final season was because the contract with the animation studio they were using ran out and they were not able to renew after Fox commissioned more episodes so they just had to go with who was available. The Apocalypse multi-parter was actually intended as the series finalé which is why just about every guest character comes back for it.
I remember watching it as a kid, and I was really confused why beast refused to leave with magneto when he broke him out. I'm glad that I can appreciate it now.
I saw the show 2 years ago on Disney plus and I'm teenager so I obviously have no bias or nostalgia watching it and I gotta say you're 100% right, it's a great show
As someone who’s loved the X-Men since 1991, I will admit some nostalgia for the show, but I will also gladly say that no other adaptation was even nearly as good before or since.
Agreed but I would have loved to see Woverine and the X-Men get as many seasons as this amazing show did because that was the only other X-Men adaptation that could have had a shot at giving it a close run but only one season? Naw in no way can I endorse it as even being in the same ballpark as the iconic 90's X-Men
This video and your analysis was great but that 2-3 minute animated segment at the very end was fucking GOLD! 😂🤘🔥 Never really listened to Cal Dodd's interpretation of the character but he's awesome, even right now! I gotta buckle down and watch the show before the new season comes out 🤘
Wow ! I did not know the 90's X-Men was that kind of show. I knew it had serialized storytelling, but other than that, I really thought it was like you described Pryde of the X-Men. Thank you for setting the record straight for others like me. Awesome video !
I grew up when this show was on I can say they had no problem pumping out toys for every minor character that showed up. I definitely had toys of some of the background Morlocks
I remember watching some reruns of this and evolution on disneyxd. Rogue’s my favorite xmen and I wish the movie rogue was just as awesome as the ones from the cartoons because she had a nice actress but did next to completely nothing.
One could say the same thing for every X-man in those movies that wasnt Wolverine. Most of them werent bad, they just have the fatal problem of barely doing anything with its characters cause of the director obsesion with Logan. Even the last trilogy didnt quite knew what to do with their characters outside of Xavier and Magneto. Hopefully the mcu will bring back underutilised characters like Rogue and actually do something with them instead of the shallow adaptation they previously have.
We don't speak of season 5. The end of Beyond Good and Evil was meant to be the true ending, but Saban wanted another season. None of the original writers were involved, they hired a cheaper studio to do the animation, and they used scripts from rejected episodes. Kind of why there's an episode where Cyclops is still grieving over Jean when she's been back for a whole 2 seasons.
So, that thing about Lilandra taking Charles into space to heal him and prolong his life is actually canon. It even goes so far as to restore Charles’ ability to walk for a while.
Thats one of the good points of the series this video doesnt remark on, it was always very faithful to the source material. Directly adapting specific arcs and key moments, like Xaviers "death", but giving them their own spin like good adaptations do.
Will that be who Jubilee's voice actor from the 90's will be voicing in the revival maybe? It's another young character who has a big brother/little sister rapport with Wolverine like Jubilee did, so it could be fun for fans to see those two voice actors combine like that again.
Ey congrats on the new season of Xmen I remember this show on Jetix but I never watch it that much since I thought spiderman was cooler but after watching this video I can see what it did for Super Hero cartoons and it sure deserves all the love from the fans
Amazing to hear Cal as Wolvie again! I can't help but notice his voice has a bit more "cheeks" in it... I hope it gets ironed out a bit by the time the new series fires up. But it still sounds amazing and Cal Dodd you're the goat my guy! no shade!
That's a really lucky coincidence you were working on this before the news dropped lol, that's cool I never watched the cartoon back in the day, I'm not sure it got released here. But I've got a surprising amount of fondness for these characters and designs thanks to the legacy of the various Capcom fighting game titles based on Marvel. You don't get a greater rendition of those designs than those lovingly crafted sprites I don't think.
I was in middle school when FOX X-Men aired. It's a really great adaptation of the comics, and drove home the politics of the old school comics. 18:12 The animation might have been a bit dodgy, but the layout and directing was incredible. Animation is expensive and hard.
the poor X-Men went from the coolest thing ever to fox making those movies and killing them instantly in the year 2000 and we never heard of them since.
Actually, there were some Filmation cartoons that handled death. The Price of Power from He-Man, where Adam gave up his powers after thinking that some innocent civilian died because of his actions; and The Price from Bravestarr, which was about a kid getting addicted to drugs…and dying from an overdose. They even went as far as actually showing his dead body on screen (respectfully of course).
This was amazing! You really captured the greatness that X-men was. I started watching the series last year; along with X-men evolution and i think that both of them are incredible shows. Seeing the way, the 90s X-men handled the dark phoenix saga was my favorite interpretation of the character and jean grey's character development. I never liked how the x-men movies handled dark phoenix. Good job, Xavier.
I thought I was the only one who saw the art style change. Other than that it is one of my favorite shows and it is really ahead of it’s time. I didn’t even grow up with it, I watched it this year at 15. Great characters and I can’t wait for the continuation/soft reboot they are doing sometime this year.

The only critique I have for this video is I think you may have slightly overstated how much this show was FOR kids. I remember watching the show in the 90s, (I'm 32) but the obligation reason I even knew this show existed was because of my dad. He was and is a big comic book fan and he watched this show religiously. He was only in his 20s, but I think he was just as much in the target demo for this show as kids like me, if not more.
I loved that Early 90s cartoon. Pizza hut used to have a special on Thursdays I think where you got an x men comic ,cup ,and pan pizza . I still got the cups and books . Ahhh the good old days. Great video gentlemen 👍
Actually, The Voices in: "Pryde Of The X-Men" Were Casted By: SUNBOW Studios; A Subsidiary Of MARVEL Entertainment. So They WERE Some Of The Voices in BOTH GI*JOE & Yes, Even Transformers! Zartan Was Wolverine & Scarlett Was Jean Grey!
This version is So Iconic, I'm fairly sure most consider it the Definitive Version. And given the fact the MCU version (From Dr. Strange:MoM) rides a Yellow Hover Chair and had the X-Men Theme play when he appeared, I do believe the film makers agree.
I've been frustrated by the films because I grew up on the 90s cartoon, which actually illustrated the original themes. Mutants like Storm, Jubilee, and Bishop are actual characters with development, further supporting the themes. But the movies largely didn't deal with that. So, if Disney ever has the stones to make X-Men movies based on the original themes, I feel that certain people will complain. But the 90s cartoon is what they need to look to (aside from the comics, of course). And they need to incorporate the ICONIC theme someway. And make my boyfriend Gambit *CAJUN* - don't give him a generic Southern accent!

Imma F13 lover, so i love Corey Feldman… but nah. May as well use Reynolds since its Marvel Studios produced
Donpool? Slashpool? Sparxpool? Deadpooltello?
Rob Paulsen?
Wolverine’s mask really is just two Batmen kissing
hearing you talk about a show i’ve never seen is so good and gets me so hyped for when you eventually get around to spectacular spiderman, can’t wait man, keep up the great work
"In fact, I like a LOT of Japanese stuff..."
O we know Logan 😏
Mariko: It’s okay. I am stuff.

Although, Wolverine loving Evangelion is a buzzkill for weebs.
Evangelion is always controversial within weeb community.
I like that even when Morph is revealed to be alive, he goes through this real painful recovery process physically and mentally.
Cal Dodd and Steve Blum having a talk at the Bar as wolverines. How cool would that be? Maybe add Scot McNeil there too?
Have you heard Mark Hamill's go at it? I shouldnt have been shocked that it was so good(because, c'mon, .... Mark Freakin Hamill), but it was GREAT.
@@sniktheadthemunki2709 Yes, I remember Mark played the role too and I agree. Do you he would love get a shot again?
@@UnrealNeoBat Hamill seems like he's down for just about any fun geek project
I feel like we are about to live through an epic resurgence of xmen in the media and I am here for it
I saw the show 2 years ago on Disney plus and I'm teenager so I obviously have no bias or nostalgia watching it and I gotta say you're 100% right, it's a great show
You’re a real one for having the beast theme from x-men mutant apocalypse!
i saw some anti sjw youtubers claiming their making xmen 'woke' they clearly don't know anything about xmen
The best adoption of the X-Men yet haven't seen anything that quite captured it quite as well as this series did.
Never really listened to Cal Dodd's interpretation of the character but he's awesome, even right now! I gotta buckle down and watch the show before the new season comes out 🤘
Thanks! And yes, absolutely go see the show, you won't regret it!
I love the nightcrawler episode, I think it tackles religion in a good not overly preachy way
I started watching the show for the first time yesterday. Solid first 3 episodes so far, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series
X-Men '97! This aged beautifully.
I loved this show, can’t wait for the new show!!!
Actually it's a continuation of this show.
Batman and FOX X-Men came out a month apart which is why I had a great childhood!!! Oh, very good Wolverine.
It will never impress that you can get these actors to cameo in your stuff.
I kinda hope that the Kitty Pryde embargo is lifted. Maybe we'll see her with Nightcrawler in Excalibur if we're lucky
Kitty Pryde embargo?
@@NobleRaider2747 Yes, back in the 90s they weren't allowed to use Kitty Pryde in the show due to the shitty 80s failed pilot. But it's all cool now.
Watching this after finishing X-Men TAS, and before watching 97.
The X-Men animated show is still the best representation of the x men ever none of the Fox X-Men movies can touch this show.
Thank you! I love this show! I can’t wait to see you review the 97’ sequel of it in 2023
Amazing to hear Cal as Wolvie again! I can't help but notice his voice has a bit more "cheeks" in it... I hope it gets ironed out a bit by the time the new series fires up. But it still sounds amazing and Cal Dodd you're the goat my guy! no shade!
That's a really lucky coincidence you were working on this before the news dropped lol, that's cool
I never watched the cartoon back in the day, I'm not sure it got released here. But I've got a surprising amount of fondness for these characters and designs thanks to the legacy of the various Capcom fighting game titles based on Marvel. You don't get a greater rendition of those designs than those lovingly crafted sprites I don't think.
Loved this, and loved Cal lending his voice here.
Cannot wait to hear your thoughts on X-Men '97!
Nah, several of those movies were great
Love the meta reference to yourself Xavier 😂
Cal Dodd... NOICE!
21:52 The Aerialbots and Stunticons called. They said fuck you too.
I thought I was the only one who saw the art style change. Other than that it is one of my favorite shows and it is really ahead of it’s time. I didn’t even grow up with it, I watched it this year at 15. Great characters and I can’t wait for the continuation/soft reboot they are doing sometime this year.
Holy shit if it ain’t the best Wolverine!!!!!!!!!
I really need to check out this series, and I’m so glad to hear that it’s coming back.
I've never seen this show before, I'm going to check it out before the revial. Now I wanna go watch the Spider-Man one!
Thanks for reminding me about the stupidity of Cyclops having portals in his eyes. They seriously need to retcon that because that is beyond idiotic
Since my older brother loved xmen 90s and batman the animated series I was raised watching those shows even though I was born in 2000
Perfect video. I agree with everything you said. I was born in 85 so I grew up with both Pryde and the 90's series. I still have my original vhs copies. I can't wait for the revival on Disney plus. Long live the X-Men!
Insane how this video came out just before the 90s show comes back. Love the video
I remember when Xander Mobus (Voice of Ren Amamiya) played Wolverine on Death Battle, he took from Cal Dodd’s performance.
This is why we need more kids shows like this.
bro, my man, king.
i have to say congratulations, I love how you have grown as a creator, your video cuality are extremely great right now (not even the videos of the goberment of my contry are this good), i love your comedy and the animations FUCKING GREAT! is so cool Cal Dodd help you with his amazing voice! but over all i feel the heart, you care of this series and this caracteris in a personal place and I feel it man!
I am starting with the youtube shit and this is the type of videos i want to make
and last friday i just started to watch this x-men series for the first time.
great timing
Xavier, I really love your channel and I’m really glad you keep pumping these videos out. Great job man
Damn Cal Dodd will always be my Wolverine!!! I mean this as no disrespect to Scott McNeil or Steve Blum who are magnificent! Just my man Cal was the best at what he do!( Capcom agrees with me too!)
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love you for this video oh my god
also YO IT'S CAL DODD LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Great video, man! I’m loving your recent work!
When you said you were born in '98 I kinda had a stroke
“I am the rocks on the eternal shore, crash against me and be broken!”
Batman TAS is the gold standard of Superhero animated shows but X-Men was great too
I loved that Early 90s cartoon. Pizza hut used to have a special on Thursdays I think where you got an x men comic ,cup ,and pan pizza . I still got the cups and books . Ahhh the good old days. Great video gentlemen 👍
My mom and I had this show and Star Trek to bond over. Both shows guaranteed family time, with so many great memories and discussions.
Actually, The Voices in:
"Pryde Of The X-Men"
Were Casted By: SUNBOW
Studios; A Subsidiary Of
MARVEL Entertainment.
So They WERE Some Of
The Voices in BOTH GI*JOE &
Yes, Even Transformers!
Zartan Was Wolverine &
Scarlett Was Jean Grey!
This video was awesome! I'm loving this content.
Dang that's pretty great you got him just in time before the announcement.
That X-Men 2 Clone Wars soundtrack though (I see you playa)
If any character is gonna be retrofitted to be Australian,... Wolverine makes the most sense lmao
This was so freaking cool man I love that you got him back
This version is So Iconic, I'm fairly sure most consider it the Definitive Version. And given the fact the MCU version (From Dr. Strange:MoM) rides a Yellow Hover Chair and had the X-Men Theme play when he appeared, I do believe the film makers agree.
Sam Raimi clearly has love for 90's animated shows. His take on the symbiote is based on Spider-Man TAS rather than the 616 comics.
Yeah this show WAS about half of my childhood (in terms of the greatest shows I watched as a kid) - being born in the eighties...
And make my boyfriend Gambit *CAJUN* - don't give him a generic Southern accent!
amazing videos as always xavier!
great job.
I hope Psylocke will become a series regular in X-Men 97 and they cast someone who can do the British accent
I just wished they held back on the "destroy him!" because they just couldn't say, "kill him!"
Wow there are videos on RUclips and then there are documentary like hot takes with guest stars. Thank you for this. I hope everyone who ever saw the show watches this and it makes there day also.
