Thorkell the tall, is a historical figure that is said to have a glass jaw because his bone structure was bigger than average. A sufficient blow to the chin would be more dangerous to him, because it rattles his brain more than others. Basically meaning that his jaw is his weak point of anatomy. It's a common story here in Scandinavia. Whether it's fully historically accurate or even if it is 100% anatomically accurate is up for debate. My opinion is that it sort of makes sense, a bigger skull could lead to more reverberations to the brain should a strike hit well. However, whether or not his glass jaw was because of his height or just a defect from his body is pure speculation.
Yeah that and the blow he received from Thors. That was probaly the first time he got K.O. Sometimes the dammage is so severe that it makes easy for other concusions to happen. Some MMA fighters carreer ended because of that.
Hitting someone in the jaw usually does a lot of damage and Thorkell is also believed to have a "glass jaw",which means he can't take jaws hits lightly :P
Most people go down if you get them straight in the jaw or the side of the chin because of how it turns the head incredibly fast due to hitting basically what is the end of the lever that is the head. This makes your brain smash real hard on the inside, which can cause a concussion and make you pass out real easy..
Askelad didn’t know Canute was going to kill him or not. He really trust Canute and think he is the best man for the king role. That’s why he follows and help him.
Believe it or not, you've had all the hints you needed to guess Thorkell's and Thorfinn's relation to each other since way back in episode nine. Yukimura really sets up his story well in advance.
Yeah, Helga being Sigvaldi's daughter and Thorkell being his brother have both been established, so if you paid attention the relation wasn't a surprise.
All I've got to say is "the road to hell are paved with good intentions." This series does not shy away from the roads people take and how different they can be.
Askeladd didn't 'know' everything that was to unfold. He just realized that his bet paid off. Killing Ragnar has made Canute the kind of person he can follow.
"Since the midway point of this every episode has been incredible." I think it started with After Yule, which I thought was the best episode of the season, only to have every other episode after that match or even surpass it. You're probably already caught up with it, but I'm happy to say this continues well into S2.
I think it's more likely that Thors knew his weakness, and that's why he struck there instantly to knock him out. Even huge guys have glass jaws, it's not something you can just shake off usually
@@KongFuzii Glass jaw is a dumb urban myth and pseudoscience. From an era where we didn't know any better. The jaw acts as a lever and rattles the brain if hit there. Having strong neck muscles that resists destabilization helps to fortify against the lever causing the brain to slam against the skull. Those are the mechanics and physics behind "glass jaws." The jaw ain't weak, the neck muscles are just not strong enough, or the lever arm from jaw to top of head has an unfortunate ratio for the person.
Man the moment thorfinn knocked out thorkel, he saw blood in his eyes and my god he was scary. also Askelad is an extremely smart man, and he wanted things to happen this way, but he is also extremely lucky. the victory laugh said it all
hitting in the jaw is a basic martial sport spot because that causes maximum rotation and so more internal damage to the brain, some fighters are claimed to have a glass jaw because their neck muscles aren't very strong to absorb some of that rotation force
In boxing and fighting in general, hitting someone on the jaw or the tip of the chin is one of the best ways to knock someone out. Thorkell was said to have a weak jaw, so thorfin kicking him in the jaw with full force put him to sleep. Heck I will go as far to say it would put most people to sleep if they get hit in the jaw with a full force kick
Thorkell and Askelad tried Canute in their own ways. In the case of Askelad in particular, it was a great gamble that if Canute failed, he was dead. And Canute passed tests. As Ange pointed out,Canute has more similarities to Askelad than to Thorfinn, but the crucial difference between Askelad and Canute is that Askelad's principle of action is hate, while Canute's is love. Askelad does not know the conversation between Canute and the priest, but he sees through Knut's nature (what kind of king he will be). That is why he decides to serve Canute.
Although unrelated to the main story, the voice actor who plays Canute is married. His wife is a voice actress, voicing Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
That's because Canute is already more like Thors than Thorfinn. That glint in his eyes, he knows killing Askeladd would not mean a thing but since he is being honest, he can somehow trust him. I feel like Canute understood what Askeladd did but he is going to go along as long as he finds love in the world
You said "I like to see Askeladd working with Thorfinn even tho they're both doing it for selfish reasons" How is trying to survive selfish ? And how is trying to get revenge for your father selfish ? Dude everything we do is selfish

And super based in S2
We didn't know back then but he's a big stepper for sure.

Yeah in boxing hitting in the jaws knock u out!

Thorkell's jaw probably got permanently weakened after Thor's jab so many years ago
I think it's more likely that Thors knew his weakness, and that's why he struck there instantly to knock him out. Even huge guys have glass jaws, it's not something you can just shake off usually
Its not the jaw its the brain. Punching someone in the jaw makes their brain shake in their skull and knocks them out.
@@elekku7031 The combat sport term is glass jaw/chin tho.
@@KongFuziiit’s ok, he doesn’t train in any combative sports to know that term
@@randalabra3852 wrong. The only reason he has that weakness is because thors jabbed him there
Well it’s pretty normal for people not to know but a strike to the jaw causes vibrations in the brain and makes anyone collapse. It’s just combat 101
I thought it was a common knowledge. surprise how people don't know it
Its more than that for Thorkell. He has a glass jaw.
Yeah, and i think he's not used to get hit on the chin since he's very tall
Despite boxing, even before I ever stepped in a gym I still knew that. I also thought it was common knowledge 😂

"Maria, I'm sorry..." That was the words of the second to last man Thors killed. That was the moment he chose to leave the battlefield.
"Thorkell the Invincible" more like "Thorkell the Glass Jaw"

cheers to ya reactors as well.

Awesome EP and reaction and really liked it and enjoyed it
canute s reaction to askeladd murdering his father figure was a little different from thorfinn s
"A little"

When you hit somebody in the chin it rattles their brain and has a chance of knocking them out thorkell has a weak chin
Thors went ultra instinct mode XD
You guys should consider watching Black Clover. It walks the line between funny and serious like Jujutsu Kaisen.
Canute is one of the best.
Dude got a glass jaw
