Practical Engineering who wouldnt wanna be Cool like him, keep up the amazing work by the way. side note, where did you get that small architects ruler?
I agree with this. If the content is awesome, I'll tell the author just how much it is but if not then I'll tell them that as well. If they put it out here then they have to expect it. Tony's video presentation is remarkably great in my opinion.
this is what i love about this channel. this vise handle, the over arm support, the draw bar, the quick change tool post, the backing plate for the 4 jaw chuck etc. the micro boring head was i think his greatest tool build to date. i think that this is this old tony at his finest. and allways set to music and comedy. many thanks TOT....
To say I am impressed is an under statement. As a woodworker for over 50 years to see anything made with such precision is remarkable. If I could make anything within a sixty fourth of an inch is awesome, and here you are machining to tolerances I can only dream of, great video.
Actually, a square drill will cut a 5-sided hole. You need a 3 sided bit to produce a square hole, just like you need a 5-sided bit to cut a hexagonal hole.
You know you've made it when Jimmy and Dustin are watching your videos. (I wish!) The mix of Humour and great engineering skill is a definite winner. I've binged on most of your videos the last couple of days. Great Job!
I will come along for this ride, and I will enjoy every second. This Old a Tony; possibly the only machining RUclips channel that can evoke laughter without a word. A narrow audience, I know, but you do it well, sir.
Hey Toan-nee, you are a machine-tool magician. My Honey and I enjoy your videos. I can't wait for a full length major motion picture. Keep up the GREAT vids. I wish I was one of your kids so youse could teach me all about using machinery. Thank you.
I love this Tony. Informative video, gently and humorously presented. No malice, no ill will, no dickswinging, just a great maker video. Thanks and have a lovely Christmas
I am a dentist but I don't know why, I have found myself watching your "movies" instead of watching "dental stuffs". You have really a good way of presenting the topic :)
The way you edit your videos, and your humor just makes your videos that much more enjoyable. personally I work in the shop as well, but you make it look so glamorous
Now it will be easier to follow Ave'sclosing advice! Nice video, enjoyed it, cheers and Merry Christmas!

As an aspiring machinist with more tools than skills, I very much appreciate your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, creativity and skill with those of us that need help. :-) Awesome stuff! I have been looking for a way to do a 3/4" handle for a used Bison 2 piece and this is just the ticket!
I had no idea a wooden sword could be that sharp- I think I enjoy the silly stuff as much as anything else, like the wood in the mixing bowl and the other photography tricks. Great stuff!
For something that looks so simple, you have a way of making it fun and entertaining, with the nods to the other youtube people. Thank you for making the great videos,
Love the Clickspring reference. Good content as always man! I'm saving up to buy a new Lathe as my old bench top one crapped out on me the other day...
Crapped out? Beyond repair? This is why I want to start filming everything I do, so I can catch the moment when a boring job suddenly turns into the start of an interesting journey.
Tony, I can’t stop watching your videos. I hate rewatching things, but I think I’ve seen all your videos at least 3 times. These style ones are my favorite. You have some serious creativity and camera and shop skills to match. This is what youtube is made for. Art. (and maybe memes)
Great to see a skilled craftsman at work, and especially one that can make a video with class and humor. Your kids will no doubt find these instructive as well as a wealth of fond memories.
Awesome project. Fantastic workmanship. Exceptional video production! The music & still frames reminds me of one of my favorite classic Jack Lemon films called Good Neighbor Sam. As always, education with comedic entertainment. Thank You!
The key is good quality, very sharp files. Drilling out the corners took out most of the material. If you try to dig into a round hole, on the other hand...
Found your channel a month or so ago and I can't stop watching your videos. They really make me appreciate metalwork and I enjoy the lighthearted humor you bring to it. :)
Haha, this my friend really made me laugh. First the shaker, and then the Clickspring reference. Fantastic! Please continue making videos. They are really great to watch :) Sincerely, Fredrik
Geez...now you're using wet/dry finishing sticks too? One obsessive Kiwi makes a clock and now we all have to do beautiful work at every turn. I couldn't be happier of course. :)
Super blend of entertainment and practical work. p.s. I've a load of 3" steel CRS to cut, what's the chance of hiring out your boy. It would be a lot quicker than bandsawing it.
I see young Mr Destructo has been practicing with his shord. As always a great entertaining video. You have a real knack to make me want to go out in the garage and make stuff, thanks.
Just watching this again because today's upload left me wanting more. Seriously, such a fun one, which is truly remarkable for such a basic project. And I'm picturing you driving to the store to get a Kit Kat as soon as using it occurred to you. :)
This Old Tony what meterial did u use for that i want to make 1 like it for my Ajax mill also what is the name of the thing you used to shape the ball st the end of the handle
Truth. I see a lot of faucets and valves with permanent "Vise-grips", (usually the el-cheapos from the bin at the farm and fleet store or auto parts store) cheaper than a replacement handle.
Funny you should mention that. Earlier tonight my chuck key broke. First thing I did was slap a vise grip on it. (It didn't work, I had to mill a slot to give the vice grips a place to hold onto.)
Editing skills, excellent sense of humour, fabrication skills and tools to match them, one of the best RUclips channels out there. AND you're married!! How the hell do you manage it all?
Very nicely done. Have made many a square hole over the years for heavy equipment. Surely not as precise, but very much the same method. Tom Lipton ain't the only one who uses hand files!!
In the right environment, with good work holding, and maybe a stool to sit on while you work, using a hand file isn't bad at all. Having something on your sound system (something long, like Tubular Bells or Dark Side Of The Moon) that you really enjoyed in the past, but haven't listened to for a long time, makes the work fly.
Indeed. New armorer / gunsmith candidates at the USMC Precision Weapons Section in Quantico start their training by learning how to use hand files to make perfect dimensionally correct steel cubes out of cold rolled steel then make spheres out of square stock. Impressive.
I enjoy watching your videos, they show how you make stuff while you also add a little humor to them. I'm surprised you didn't curl your handle in your hand like a little dumbbell while you had the chance....lol. Great Job!
Your skills as photographer, filmmaker, cutter and machinist are exceptional. It is a joy to watch your videos (and many others of course that actually teach some knowledge of the trade).
Brilliant; so well done and entertaining. I can't believe there are people who gave this a thumbs down. What miserable little people. Thank you for a very entertaining and educational video. 👍
Man that's great. I do love watching you work, if for no other reason than that you make this stuff look so easy. If ever I've got a shop of my own, I know I'll owe a lot of my knowledge to the time you've spent sharing this stuff.
Always love your videos, the time you spend editing must take forever but it really shows in your videos. Funny and interesting, I'm usually stuck watching them for hours
Getting a TIG machine for christmas so I can be cool like Tony
i love it when my subs intercommunicate, it shows that we all share a common interest, the category of content creators and the subscriber base
Practical Engineering who wouldnt wanna be Cool like him, keep up the amazing work by the way.
side note, where did you get that small architects ruler?
It was conference SWAG, but you can get them on amazon.
Oh Grady... you'll never be as cool like Tony... j/k, we love you both.
*Gonna take a whole lot more than a TIG. :) I keed. :)*
*MAYBE -- P.E. + Tony could collaborate on a project..??*
What a fantastic video! Thank you!
oi alec can i have ur powerhammer the one thats fast ya know XD XD
I can hear you say fantastic when reading this comment
fantAstic
Now that you are here in the states... do a Collab together!
@@barmetler Fantastic as ever!
So dam good!!
Reminds me of your vids with the hammer pin flaring. :)
thanks JD!
I learn these tiny little things like wiggling the cutter as you plunge into the cut on the handle. It's a pleasure watching you work. Thanks!
Thanks Dustin!
at 7:00, it leaves the chamfer the same depth on the curved surface. I love this dedication to detail.
Nice one. I actually laughed out hard at the Clickspring reference
Tilman Baumann Same ^^
me too!
Perfectly played!
Tilman Baumann same here LOVED it hahaha
Tilman Baumann Haha, me too !
Love the freeze-frame with the ever-so-sligt enlarged completed-photo. And the happy music. Seriously man, you have an excellent sense for film.
Thanks Brad!
Yes, levity is a great tutor!
I agree with this. If the content is awesome, I'll tell the author just how much it is but if not then I'll tell them that as well. If they put it out here then they have to expect it. Tony's video presentation is remarkably great in my opinion.
SgtPiggie, put some ice onto that burn. And go out to play.
Fixer un vieux étau à pied à un établi

Loved the blue on the third side of the handle. Well done. It's the subtlety that makes me smile.
I absolutley love your style! You are a big inspiration for my channel. Every time I watch your videos I look on ebay afterwards for a lathe.
I know nothing about metal lathing and was blown away by this. Total skill. Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas from land down under.
Thank yoU!
To say I am impressed is an under statement. As a woodworker for over 50 years to see anything made with such precision is remarkable. If I could make anything within a sixty fourth of an inch is awesome, and here you are machining to tolerances I can only dream of, great video.
Finally found someone who entertains while teaching at the same time. I hope you realise how good you are?
I would have just used a square drill bit. duh.
For a permanent solution? Sure, if you're feeling ghetto! :)
They exist.
Actually, a square drill will cut a 5-sided hole. You need a 3 sided bit to produce a square hole, just like you need a 5-sided bit to cut a hexagonal hole.
Make that two if you find one
Or the new rotary broach?
You know you've made it when Jimmy and Dustin are watching your videos. (I wish!)
The mix of Humour and great engineering skill is a definite winner.
I've binged on most of your videos the last couple of days. Great Job!
I will come along for this ride, and I will enjoy every second.

Thanks SgtSly, glad you enjoy them!

Thanks Paddy!
I am a dentist but I don't know why, I have found myself watching your "movies" instead of watching "dental stuffs". You have really a good way of presenting the topic :)
always love your metal cutting gags.
I knew that sword was too cool not to make another appearance!
*shord
Chris Anderson He should use a lightsaber that would be hilarious
The way you edit your videos, and your humor just makes your videos that much more enjoyable. personally I work in the shop as well, but you make it look so glamorous

Awesome work, thanks for sharing
The quality of your videos is unreal, one of the best channels I've ever seen
Thanks!
I had no idea a wooden sword could be that sharp-
I think I enjoy the silly stuff as much as anything else, like the wood in the mixing bowl and the other photography tricks. Great stuff!
*The income potential of this video is amazing. In an apocalypse scenario, this man could make unlimited 10mm sockets.*
Oooooooo! I like your tuning knob for finding the correct piece in the bit of metal, very clever!!!
Hey, as a percussionist, I'll say: nice shaker technique with those files
Thanks Jeremy!
He should try that same movement with a jar half full of dry rice huh? shiki shiki shiki
I think you actually meant to say a Jar half empty of dry ice
sawzaw file action would have been applauded!
For something that looks so simple, you have a way of making it fun and entertaining, with the nods to the other youtube people. Thank you for making the great videos,
Love the Clickspring reference.
Good content as always man! I'm saving up to buy a new Lathe as my old bench top one crapped out on me the other day...
4:35 for those not paying attention. Love it!
Crapped out? Beyond repair?
This is why I want to start filming everything I do, so I can catch the moment when a boring job suddenly turns into the start of an interesting journey.

Loved this video! But I'm left wondering, how did you tighten the vise to make the vise handle? More time travel? ;)
Adam Carmichael That or he uses his bare fingers and his manly man strength XD
Or maybe just an Adjustable spanner lol
I made the video _after_ I made the vise handle.
Sometimes you have to plan ahead.
BURN THE MACHINIST
Wait.. so, if he weighs the same as a duck...
Great to see a skilled craftsman at work, and especially one that can make a video with class and humor. Your kids will no doubt find these instructive as well as a wealth of fond memories.
Great video, I love the "Dial-A-Job" you have.
Awesome project. Fantastic workmanship.
Exceptional video production! The music & still frames reminds me of one of my favorite classic Jack Lemon films called Good Neighbor Sam.
As always, education with comedic entertainment.
Thank You!
Love the editing, it's always a blast watching your videos. Great project, too. :)
I love the way you cut your material. And here I've been using a horizontal band saw all these years. 👍😎♥️
You made the squaring of the hole look easy. I've not had such great luck in my attempts. Great entertaining yet educational video as always. Bravo
The key is good quality, very sharp files. Drilling out the corners took out most of the material. If you try to dig into a round hole, on the other hand...
couldn't you just cut the excess material with the milling machine?
I wondered that too. Possibly the hole was too narrow/deep to get an end mill into, and drilling right through was simpler.
Found your channel a month or so ago and I can't stop watching your videos. They really make me appreciate metalwork and I enjoy the lighthearted humor you bring to it. :)
Thanks!
The finish on that ball is the envy of the Khyber pass!
MarvinRunyon if their ball turning is anything like their weapons manufacturing they need serious help
Darn, you're pretty slick. I enjoy seeing your tricks and your humor.
the clickspring reference was a nice touch
Best production quality of all RUclips machinist's channels.
I saw that "Click Spring" reference
I do love your work.
I love the way he plans ahead and manufactures the piece with precision.
Awesome video. Great machine work and clever editing!
Just my lathe file and some sandpaper, I'm afraid. I debated a bright polish but then I would have had to do the whole thing that way :)
Chris is Aussie, not Kiwi
Love your video, as always, Tony! The Kit Kat joke was wonderful.
Super blend of entertainment and practical work.
p.s. I've a load of 3" steel CRS to cut, what's the chance of hiring out your boy. It would be a lot quicker than bandsawing it.
His day rate is 2 bags of M&Ms and a PB&J at noon.
I see young Mr Destructo has been practicing with his shord. As always a great entertaining video. You have a real knack to make me want to go out in the garage and make stuff, thanks.
If Clickspring's new project is a Byzantine calendar will you go one further and make a series about your social calendar?
Bravo! Tony, I have to say that u'r always gettingto a very high level of entertainment in your creations
Thank you!
The sound of that clicking into place means I can sleep at night again
I gotta say you have one hellava sense of humor !
I've always enjoyed watching machining videos but yours are a CUT above the rest, thanks !
merry x-mas tony! thanks for the great vids!
and to you! thanks for watching!
Haha, love what you did at 1:28, Tony.
Clickspring prototyping level 100.
Just watching this again because today's upload left me wanting more. Seriously, such a fun one, which is truly remarkable for such a basic project. And I'm picturing you driving to the store to get a Kit Kat as soon as using it occurred to you. :)
UGH this is so good it makes me angry!!! awesome. I had to stop the video after the first 3 min to comment i couldn't wait,
I done the same thing and then watched it again. Haha
I've thoroughly enjoyed your vids the past year: Educational, Inspirational & Comical. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Peter!
Subbed for nod to Clickspring and because AvE is in the comments talking about Tubalcain.
Watched it again and STILL liked it! Bravo.
Who’s here watching it for the 100th time?
Never stop watching TOT
I have learned tons from you and i always laugh. I hate to miss one of your videos. Your very talented, keep up the good work.
my wife has one like that.
Dylan T I see what you did there...
Nobody tell him! Let him be happy. Just let him be.
sir your every video is brilliantly engineered & inspirational... keep it up
Thank you!
Oh sure, too swank to just stick a vise grip on it semi-permanently. I see how you are.
hahah
This Old Tony what meterial did u use for that i want to make 1 like it for my Ajax mill also what is the name of the thing you used to shape the ball st the end of the handle

Nice Clickspring reference. ;)
I enjoy watching your videos, they show how you make stuff while you also add a little humor to them. I'm surprised you didn't curl your handle in your hand like a little dumbbell while you had the chance....lol. Great Job!
Hey! Cousin ... !
Whatever happened to "this wouldn't be an old tony flick if I just cut to the point"?
(still good tho)
In the essence of time I cut out the whole building-the-milling-machine-and-the-vise-out-of-scrap-metal and did just a vise handle video.
This Old Tony, seems legit!
Ruh Row! If you and Chris had a baby it would be a Crisptot and nobody but you guys would get any work done...Nice Tony...love the squeak.
4:36 do you come from a land down under?
Clickspring was my first thought too!
Addi I think Chris is a kiwi actually
still a land down under :-D
Chris lives in Cairns. I believe he is Aussie.
I know nothing about numbers and all that stuff. So I especially enjoyed this video. Just pure entertainment!
Am I the only one who has watched this like 10 times+ just because of the music ?
yes
Me too
Would love to know what the name of the song is. I looked it up in the RUclips Audio Library with no luck.
I love watching this guy's work.
I'm not gonna lie. I'm impressed the wooden sword is still in one piece after all this time.
Hi mate. I was thinking the same thing. Either that or it must have been repaired.
That makes two (three?) of us! He's good with it. Though he hasn't used it as a pry bar yet. That'd do it.
Your skills as photographer, filmmaker, cutter and machinist are exceptional. It is a joy to watch your videos (and many others of course that actually teach some knowledge of the trade).
can someone tell me what is the name of the music? it's reminding me of Django's jazz :)
WOW!!! What a great project demonstration. Very interesting to watch. This is easily 2 or more hours condensed in 7 minutes
G'day mate! Next time you make fun of clickspring, remember to show off your funny Australian accent ;-)
Brilliant; so well done and entertaining. I can't believe there are people who gave this a thumbs down. What miserable little people. Thank you for a very entertaining and educational video. 👍
More great music, today on, TOT!
That ball-turner is awesome! Never seen one of those before. Nice job.
4:40 Im going to have a stab in the dark here and say you're a little sad over Chris finishing his clock.
I love the extra effort you put into the production of these!
Also the little clickspring reference, I see what you did there!
What the name of the music?
I laughed and laughed at the clickspring reference. Chris will be stoked. Excellent informative video as usual.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
unexpected kitkat
The best kind.
Great video, learned a huge amount Tony and loved the homage to ClickSpring! Very classy.
3:40 - the Abom79 method from sundays video lol
This guy is my inspiration to setup a home shop. Great content, awesome personality, and I like his jokes.
That Clickspring reference hahahaha
Man that's great. I do love watching you work, if for no other reason than that you make this stuff look so easy. If ever I've got a shop of my own, I know I'll owe a lot of my knowledge to the time you've spent sharing this stuff.
SHORD !!!
Awesome video Tony! I really love the comedy elements you add. They make it so much more enjoyable
oh my god!
He did it.
Removed metal without a power tool.
Just using a file. My world falls into chips
Always love your videos, the time you spend editing must take forever but it really shows in your videos. Funny and interesting, I'm usually stuck watching them for hours
