While it may seem satisfying, geckos shed skin in a natural process and are very vulnerable as they do so. Pulling off the skin may hurt the gecko and could even tear off a limb! The only time this is ok is if the gecko has dead skin. Otherwise, you should never peel off a gecko skin.

My brother had a gekcho at one point and this is true unless the gecko has trouble with its lose skin help it especially around the head because it can cause entanglement and cause problems but 99% of the time it has to take it off by its own now, I am not a professional but if the lose skin is not off within 1-2 hours it should be fine to help take off the skin. The only guaranteed help you should do is check its eyes/head and see if you can help your gecko. Enjoy

@@Movementninjait is extremely common for sheds on reptiles to get stuck or require assistance. And yes, deformities could definitely affect it, like if shed was partially fused with the new layer of skin/scales.

@Movementninja sometimes older geckos won't be able to peel the skin off their toes, and if they can't get it off their toe could lose circulation and fall off, you need to help them in that instance.
I just did this once because my gecko was realy sick an complet stuck in her sheddingskin. She came from a breeder who didn't take good care of her. Luckily she is now fine.

Great news! ❤ Do you have a humid hide for her now? I got mine from Amazon they have a little terracotta bowl on top that you fill with a little water- it works beautifully! My female is a rescue and has several toes missing from bad sheds before I got her 😢 we haven’t had issues since, she also likes to lounge in her water bowl when she’s shedding 😂❤
Actually if a gecko has already started shedding it's okay, as long as you're careful. Don't go peeling off skin from random geckos but if they've started shedding you can help them out.

Occasionally you would have pull some of the gecko’s shedded skin off, like if necrosis is starting on it tail because the skin is stuck. Even then you would moisten it and gently rub it off, never pull it off.
Yeah the only time I intervene is firstly with my old girl and her toes- she’s a rescue and wasn’t cared for properly 😢 she has several toes missing. Or if they’ve got some stuck shed on their face- about two weeks ago my youngest gecko had a big chunk of shed stuck on his face and over his eyes 😮 I’m sure he could have gotten it with time, but he was running into things, knocking his plants over, and I could tell he was really frustrated. 9/10 times I let them handle it though! ❤ A humid hide and a little soak in the water bowl usually does the trick!

It's actually 100% safe when necessary so long as they're ready. And actually it can get stuck if the humidity is to low and make them lose their toes. And thanks for the likes😁
It is never 100% safe. Any competent owner or breeder would tell you that. No matter how loose you think it is, just one slightly tight spot can cause stress to the animal.

It is okay to Peel off at geckos shed but you should only do it if it got stuck on the gecko, and you should always give help to the gecko around its toes as it’s hard for geckos to get shed off their toes and if shed is left on, it could injure the gecko (hope this helps!)

you typically have to assist them in the shedding process because it can be difficult for them to get the shedding off, especially over time when they form things like eye caps and nose plugs, its very good to help them do this but down towards the limbs you should be extremely careful or just hold it for them to pull themselves out of it. then just leave their shed with them, theyll eat it since it contains nutrients that are good for them.
I have helps and my parents always reminds us NOT to peel the helps skin unless there’s only a little bit left that’s stuck on them

I grew up with geckos and especially in captivity they can need assistance shedding the skin on their toes and more tight areas of their bodies because if they can't get the dead skin off, their toes and such can die and fall off which is not good. Therefore, it can be crucial to assist them, but it also depends on the species. Leopard gecko's and geckos like them usually require assistance because they have such small crevices between their toes, armpits and ear holes. It's purely consequential and depends on how agile the animal is, some older geckos can start loosing agility and need extra assistance. While some animals can just generally not reach as well as a human with a pair of tweezers.
I mean if your gecko has a terrarium with some rocks and sand he will shed everything without any problem just by walking

DO NOT DO THIS EVEN IF IT'S STUCK! You will likely hurt you gecko!
1. Humid hide with sphagnum moss from hardware store or garden store
2. Rough areas for gecko to rub off skin, and replenish water in humid hide with spritzer bottle (mister). Recommend medium "Zilla Rock Lair" for leopard geckos and cave geckos.
3. Avoid the problem in the first place, by having appropriate calcium supplementation to their diet and UVB lighting.
4. If shed is white, give it 2 days with humid conditions, after spraying a majority of the enclosure when shedding, not just the humid hide. After the 2 days, do your research about stuck shed on the claws. It will not be a problem until the next shedding comes, 2 to 5 weeks later depending on age.
5. If it's been a week and they can't get shed off their tail or toes, and you're a new owner, find an exotics vet that deals with reptiles. Do not attempt without research, lest you pull out their finger nails or toes. DO NOT WAIT more than 2 weeks, because 2 shed layers stuck on top of one another can cut off circulation, and 3 can cut off a limb.
If you do end up having to help it out I personally use wet q-tips to gently try to rub and loosen up stuck shed around the fingers and toes after letting my gecko soak its feet in warm water for a bit. It’s important that you help as soon as possible because stuck shed can cause them to lose circulation. I personally wouldn’t wait a whole week because that’s really pushing it in my opinion. I would wait at most two days before helping with stuck shed. But don’t go rushing in trying to “save” your lizard before it’s able to finish shedding its skin. It’s crucial to the difference between stuck shed and skin that isn’t ready to be shed.
