    Imo, 20 gallons is waaaaay too small for cohabitation. They need lots of space and theyre going to end up competing for heat and areas in the enclosire. 20 gallons is the bare minimum for ONE gecko, so deffo shouldve kept them in a 40 gallon long

    Okay so. Just some tips from a leopardgecko owner.
    1. The minimum size for leopardgeckos is 40 gallons I belive so your tank is way too small especially for two.
    2. they Need at least two hides per gecko so in your case you would need four. Two on the warm side and two on the cold side.
    3. They do the best on a 50/50 soil/sand mix so they can actually dig etc.
    4. normally you shouldn’t cohabitate leopardgeckos since they’re actually solitary animals but since they’ve been together for such a long time I think it’s okay.
    All in all the cage is maybe a 3/10. I can tell that you love your animals so I’m begging you to do more research and give them the best homes possible.

      I don’t recommend sand or loose substrate because of compaction (when they ingest it and it gets stuck) and just a digging hide like a cut out hole you can put a ramp to in a plastic Tupperware if they don’t have problems with compaction but I recommend carpet or tile I only recommend carpet because if you can’t afford tile you can get carpet and it works almost as good Edit: I have a gecko in a 50 gallon one hide on each side with carpet a heat pad and a strong ubv heat lamp not like a normal heat light it is a ubv that also provides heat for your reptile and a few decorations she climbs on and scratches on

    • @kittyspetss
      @kittyspetss 2 года назад +9

      @@ridageckoguy3094 loose substrate is completely fine if you use the right one. Bioactive enclosures are the best option for any type of reptile. Carpet is one of the worst options since their nails can get stuck in it and fingers can get ripped of bc of it.

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад +4

      @@ridageckoguy3094 kittyspets is right about the substrate. A suitable loose substrate (ie a soil/sand mix) is much better for them than carpet. Also, it sounds like you’re using a mercury vapour bulb. Those aren’t good because a) they can’t be dimmed, meaning you can’t regulate the temperature and b) they’re an insufficient source of UVB. It’s best to have a heat lamp and a separate tube UVB bulb.

    I think that the older one was better since it was bigger for 2 geckos. I would get them some eco earth or something they can dig in, in their moist hide so they can also lay and burrow their eggs. I woulduv added more hides and maybe fake plants and stuff. Seems to small for them already, I woulduv gotten a 40 gal least for them

    I hate to seem harsh, however as an experienced leopard gecko owner I believe you need to do research on the needs of a leopard gecko. Maybe watch Jessica and friends. They should not live together, 20 gallon tanks are actually the old minimum 40 gallon per gecko. They need 3 hides, a heat light is better than a heat matt. If you honestly care for them you need to upgrade them and separate. Her tail is also more than likely a regrown tail. Meaning she was stressed and dropped her tail. The carpet can harbor bacteria and the reality is...they need to be separated, even being together 10 years in a w0 gallon they're more likely to kill each other.

      Carpet is not a suitable substrate. It harbours bacteria, tends to get caught on teeth and claws, and doesn’t offer any digging enrichment whatsoever. A suitable loose substrate such as a soil/playsand mix is best. And they absolutely do need a larger habitat. A 20 gallon long is the bare minimum for ONE leopard gecko, 40 gallons or bigger is strongly recommended. Cohabitation can be very risky. I have seen countless cases of geckos seeming fine for years, then snapping and seriously injuring or killing each other. It can be done successfully in a very large enclosure, but definitely not one this small.

    ok so do you have a probe for the heat mat and do you have a digital thermometer with a probe cause i dont wanna spend extra money on the one im getting

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 2 года назад +1

      Heat mats are not a good heat source, overhead heating is much better for them. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.
      As well as the dimmer/thermostat (for regulating the temperature), you need a temperature gun for measuring surface temps and ideally a digital thermometer/hygrometer combo for measuring ambient temps and humidity.

    A-2 geckos should NOT be housed together.
    B-Instead of downgrading them to 1, 20 gallon tank you should have put them each in their OWN 20 gallon tank.
    C-they can get their nails caught in those mats and put them out and bleed real bad.
    D-those mats cannot be cleaned so there poop (and bacteria) is just going to pile up until you buy a new one. Or get a proper substrate.
    E-after 10 years you figure you would know all of this.

    I don’t quite understand why you downgraded it to a 20 gallon, 20 gallon is bear minimum for one adult, then when you cohabit them they need even more space, that 40-50 ish gallon tank was perfect for them, if anything I would’ve re styled the tank if the old look got too old on me, leopard geckos walk around a lot especially at night, so especially when you downgrade them from that there not gonna understand why they can’t walk further because they was already used to the bigger tank anyways. I have a leopard gecko of my own when I first bought him he was in a 10 gallon but that didn’t last too long because a week later I got a 40 gallon set up for him, I almost got a 20 gallon long but I decided seems how much he likes to move around I just went with the 40 gallon instead, haven’t seen him tank serf sense I got him the new 40 gallon, I’d honestly be surprised if yours didn’t tank serf in the new tank considering they was used to the bigger tank for so long and because there’s two of them, I already don’t recommend cohabiting them, but especially in a 20 gallon I’d never dare cohabit two because there already probably somewhat territorial then in a smaller space makes them even more territorial over one another so at that point you’re possibly risking issues with one gecko getting all the food nutrients and the other being malnourished because the one dominated over the other I’ve personally witnessed this happening and it’s not a pretty thing to see. So personally I wouldn’t have done it this way, and if you ask anyone else who has enough experience they probably wouldn’t approve of it either.

    I'm sure it's quick and easy to brush off comments you get on your videos daily as just hate... But it seems like almost all of your videos I've watched... The comment section is actually people who just want to see you do the best you can for your animals. ESPECIALLY if you have a younger following. 20 gallons for 2 geckos is like PetSmart selling fish bowls and marketing them as a life long home for a fish... Before you put yourself out here on the internet, do some damn research. It's not hard and believe it or not it would be to not only your benefit (because that's what you seem to put first) but also your animals. It's not hate dude. It's facts. Facts that you should know if you're putting info out here like this.
