This show isn't about Sheldon its about Georgie. The scenes with Georgie visiting his father's grave solidify this. Despite the ups and downs of their relationship over the years, Georgie is very much his fathers son (he is the the eldest after all). While Sheldon may be a genius in a technical sense, his abilities to process emotions especially after such a hard hit in life are very limited & almost child-like. He is running and suppressing his emotions, which TBBT shows us has significant consequences for Sheldon in the long term. It gives greater depth to his decision to move far away from his family, it is not just a decision based on his intellectual prowess. He is alone (until he meets Leonard years later) and he really doesn't start to process his emotions about George Sr until after Howard's mother's death in TBBT and meeting Amy. The narration of YS shows us that Sheldon only really starts dealing with his loss head on when he gets married & has his own children & starts to reflect upon his life, and a lot of this is because of Amy Farrah Fowler and her love for him (and also his friends, particularly Leonard). This is some 15-20 years later. He harbors the pain for a long time, and it seriously affects his personality. His friends in TBBT only put up with his arrogance and irritating idiosyncrasies due to the fact they see through it and know he is ultimately a good person, which ironically is the part of him derived from his parents (despite Sheldon's internal denial of this). Georgie however, is proving that his father taught him well. He is emotionally mature for his age and he possesses George Sr's toughness in the face of hard circumstances.. He is manning up when it matters most as his father always did. He is of course struggling with George Sr's death as is the whole family, but he is the glue holding them together at the moment and he is a good kid who is trying to put positivity first, as his Dad would have wanted. He has a deep sense of the importance of family which his father instilled in him, and the show is portraying this admirably. He is George Sr (just a younger version of him) and he is picking up the pieces as best he can given his situation (and he is doing it well compared to everyone else in his family at the moment). Will Sasso's character is great in this respect. Jim McAllister can see George Sr in Georgie and is stepping up to be a de-facto father figure for him as he needs it right now. All the fathers in YS clearly liked & respected George Sr as he was a solid good family man (also it's Texas i mean who doesn't have respect for the football coach). I like the show and it's portrayal of significant loss and the realities of moving on from such a hit. TBBT also shows us that Georgie, perhaps unknowingly, reaps his rewards for his actions as he really does become the most successful in his family, emotionally and financially. What would be cooler than a Sheldon appearance would be, perhaps a series of unconnected events in Georgie's life arises in the coming shows that are out of Georgie's control/knowledge that vaguely hints that George Sr may, in some respect, still be out there somewhere in an existential sense assisting his son from beyond the grave. Nothing to obvious or cheesy but perhaps something the viewer can grasp but not Georgie. This could be tied in with Mary's faith in her beliefs, and also show that Sheldon's belief in science, whilst being able to explain most things in life, can't explain everything. The writers have a lot to work with here as every family experiences this type of loss at some time or another in their tenure. It's just a fact of life, which the show makes very clear."
The fact Georgie took care of his mom and siblings while having a kid on his own to look after to says what kind of person he is. I’m glad now he is a successful businessman.

He's not mocked and labelled as a disappointment. This is one of my least favorite scene in the entire series. I hated it! Georgie bullied Sheldon, who clearly has issues, be it OCD, sensory integration disorder or whatever. And Georgie plays the victim because when George Sr. died, he, who was a grown adult by then, had to put his big boy pants on and help his family. Pathetic! Shame on Mary for saying should wouldn't go to Sheldon's wedding unless he got his bully brother, who Mary herself called "dumb as soup" and complained was dating a wh0re, to come to the wedding that was tangible evidence of Sheldon's growth and should've been celebrated with people he wanted around him, not his bully. Though it's not in Sheldon's character to truly stand up to his mom if it's not science based, Sheldon should've said, "If you want to miss the biggest day of my life, fine, stay in Texas... And when we have grandchildren, you can stay home for that too. This is mine and Amy's wedding, not yours, and if you do love me enough to respect that, you don't need to be there. It's nice that we have 'Young Sheldon' because we get to see the Coopers' lives before George Sr. died. It makes this scene so much more heartfelt since we have a background of Georgie's side.
This scene is really good. Sheldon's brother George made so much sacrifice for sheldon and his family. And yet he still have enough to make a businnes out of everything he went through. The point of this is sheldon always misses the sacrifice of everyone around him. Especially leonard.
suddenly...I feel bad for Amy....yeah, I know he loves her...but...he is Sheldon.....he fails to understand a lot about humans and emotions....and when you're in a committed relationship things like that matter the most
That is the case of most on the spectrum. Sheldon misses social queues, so it makes sense for him to not notice the sacrifices of others until it is explained to him. I'm glad they didn't go OOC with Sheldon. It's comforting and the representation is important.
The way George jr's been described in past episodes, I expected him to be like Penny's brother. But anybody who manages to support his family after his father dies and build a successful business from the ground up is a far cry from the 'mouth breathing idiot' that Sheldon reffered to. If I had a brother like Georgie I'de admire him, even if I had Sheldon's academic accomplishments.
In einer Folge sagte Sheldon's Mutter: Gott gibt dir soviel, wie du auf deinen Schultern tragen kannst. Zum Glück sind meine anderen Kinder dumm wie Brot....Die Mutter ist auch nicht sehr dankbar.
"I know life has been hard for you; doesn't mean it hasn't been easy for everyone else." I love that line, and I wish more people realize that. Just because other people didn't have it as rough as you, doesn't mean it didn't have its hardships.

@@the-ironclad Sheldon had a hard life because he literally has an inability to understand others. The only reason he's okay is because he's using intelligence to make up for his lack of social understanding....
Honestly, I know it's a throw away punchline, but i think this can be overanalyzed to being a subtly sweet moment. Sheldon is generally the smartest person in the room. If you have doubts about that he'll assure you that he is. He does know that he's not knowledgeable about everything, though. He knows nothing about tires. He knows his brother is an expert on tires. If Georgie says "buy new," then by god Sheldon's gonna buy new. He may not have a lot of respect for his brother's chosen field of expertise, but he does respect his brother's knowledge in it.
Also at this time, Georgie had just had a baby daughter and a wife. Meaning he was looking after his mom, sister, Wife and baby. Possibly Meemaw a bit as well.
Hope to see the mom and missy make appearances in the georgie and mandy spin off, see georgie check up on their mom and help her thru the pain and see him take care of missy
Wow Sheldon apologised. He actually truly and genuinely apologized to his brother and he almost never owns up to his mistakes. Gotta say that's actually pretty impressive as this has got to be the first true genuine apology Sheldon has ever given in his entire life.
His mom also allowed him to be the way he was instead of trying to make him see the error of his ways & when he tried to show her that he was trying to be nicer she always ignored it & kept him the way he was , Instead of other always blaming him for his quirk's look at how his mom constantly sheltered him because of her own insecurities for her own self ?
playstationsteve Well honestly I’ve always thought that Sheldon was high functioning autistic, and if the parents didn’t know and he didn’t have behavior therapy, Sheldon is what you get.
Watching Young Sheldon after this episode, I have a bigger appreciation for Georgie. He stepped up further when he became a father. And when he said to George at the funeral before the casket closed, "You don't have to worry. I got everything under control. I won't let you down, Dad." Georgie is the Cooper family's silent hero.
i know a guy like that. father died young managed to live out and is having multiple thriving businesses. most guys who run small to medium businesses usually have great backstories in person too.
The way Georgie says “well that’s alright, I know you didn’t” with a smile on his face got me feelin stuff. He’s still the bigger and more understanding brother! Immediately defused the argument and turned it into a heartfelt scene for Sheldon. A great scene in the show this one
It would've been an even bigger character building moment if Sheldon would've said, "I should've... I'm sorry." But his character is at that point yet, even with his big bro. Baby steps.
@@mariakhan7986 You mean Asbergers, which is part of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, and you don't "overcome" it, you just learn new ways to adapt or even hide your autism. Learning to adapt is helpful, but you should never have to hide being autistic to be worthy of respect and dignity as a person.
Say has a double nature: show and create. If someone says you 'say that you love me', correctly you can answer 'that you love me' because that say functions for show what is said. Finally, everything depends on how we pronounce words, that is the nature of enunciation.
What I love about Georgie is that all Sheldon's quirks don't faze him and actually what does faze him is when he's acting like a compassionate human being. He's also not being critical of the way Sheldon is in this scene, he realises his brother is different and he doesn't judge him for it, he just gets exasperated by it sometimes. Something I think was good to introduce into the series, people who understood Sheldon and the way he was and that an apology was actually a big deal for him.
Being the Eldest out of 3 Boys, and Having to be raised by my grandparents away from my parents and 2 brothers is kinda hard. My younger brother is more of a elderly brother than me nowadays
Barracuda id say if you’ve watched young Sheldon this hits harder than it does, especially how they were to each other when kids and how Georgie went from being kinda lazy to having to support his family emotionally and financially
I love that tap Sheldon does on georgie’s hand. It both shows Sheldon is still socially awkward yet also shows that he finally felt a positive connection with his brother. And Georgie is like “that’s weird, but I’ll allow it. That had good meaning behind it”
What about That scene where Howard's mother dies? I feel like they were all connected in that episode. Sure in a sad way but very emotional. Or when Leonard kind of broke Beverly by forgiving her even tho she ABSOLUTELY doesn't deserve it and she finally showed some love for him? Also a beautiful scene!
Maybe the fact that Sheldon was finally confronted to his mistakes (and not excused under the pretext of his genius and his inability in social relationships as usual ), and finally admitted his mistakes and even apologized ?
Crescentknight8189 Sheldon apparently wasn’t aware of the real reason Georgie threw away the Halloween costume. Protecting his little brother from getting beat up. Sheldon left out what scientist he was going to dress up as.
Darcy Brummett that's what I mean. Sheldon tends to exaggerate things to make himself seem more grandiose and suffering under the yoke of his simple family, but what it looks like on Little Sheldon, that wasn't the case
Crescentknight8189 Another possibility is because of the different way of thinking(at least I think) is not reading or percepting it the same due to cut back of certain portions and acceleration in other's. The way Sheldon would react would also be different from the normal person simply even based on this so his experience isn't perse distorted(possibly is distorted everyone is different after all) I would think but like a different lense entirely that's another possibility. So to him it would be accurate for recollection to another it could technically be called distorted yes to the regularily "normal" functioning brain.
Cray May But then you can't blame Sheldon for something that he didn't realise that was happening and doesn't actually have the capability especially at the age he was when his dad died to understand and be helpful in the situation
Sheldon’s recollection of most of his past should be taken with a grain of salt. He always believed himself superior to his family members. He was definitely the favorite. He got the computer he always wanted. Georgie was mean and nice to him like all big brothers. Lol Missy was definitely important to him, he left to be there during her pregnancy. His mom calls her kids dumb as soup, but really only compared to Sheldon.
Well when you really think about it Sheldon is only academically intelligent, he's basically stupid in everything else. His siblings might not have had the same academic prowess but they sure are a lot smarter than Sheldon thinks.
@@kgunitkeese17 sheldon is way smarter than his siblings. Those social stupid things like understanding humour and sarcasm or being sassy is not considered smartness. Sheldon won the Nobel prize, what else do you need as a confirmation.
@@JSRbowling595 Meh but not on the same level. There are plenty of people that are "street smart" on the level of George and Missy, Sheldon is a world-renowned scientist.
“Mom was a mess”( she became even more overly religious and distant from her children. The scene where she’s sitting in front of George Senior’s tombstone she was dismissive of Memmaw’s claims that her children needed her but she wouldn’t listen and focused more and more on Sheldon) “Missy was dumb teenager” (without her father and mother’s negligence she became rebellious, party girl and as she grew older was attracted to losers and got knocked up by said losers) “I had to look after both of them” (financially and emotionally, possibly costing his marriage and getting divorced)
That’s why I did not like about her. She was always more religious over her own children! Even Meemaw tried to convince her her children needed her more than ever after George passed
I don't like George' exscursing Missys behavior because she was a dumb teenager, Sheldon was a teenager also! I feel because of his intelligence, the family throught that translated to maturity, but the opposite was true! Mary coddled Sheldon, and now we would probably say Sheldon was on the spectrum for Asburger.
@@jonafangk1288 Young sheldon first aired in late 2017 and young George was already there, older George first appears in the episode 11x23, which first aired on may 3 2018
It's quite sad how even when George matured super fast and became the breadwinner after his father's passing, Mary still doted on Sheldon. When George Sr passed, George didn't just lose a father, he lost the one parent who saw something in him. George Sr loved all his children equally in their own way, but you could tell Mary definitely played favourites with Sheldon, and just couldn't see the man George was becoming. Maybe she was blinkered, or maybe she saw so much of her late husband in George that she almost kept feeling loss because of it, but Mary was definitely not a good mother.
Mary was religious out of need, and it flattered her to view Sheldon as a special sign of God's favor. But that little triangle didn't leave much room for anyone else in the Cooper family.
TOMMY KELVIN GOMEZ JIMENEZ u do realize that not everyone can understand a Texas accent..right?? He wouldn’t be making a lot of money if people couldn’t understand what he’s saying..hence the reason why he toned the accent down, and besides he grew up, and sometimes even accents can fade away. I'm so glad they chose Jerry O'Connell as Sheldon's older brother, i couldn't have wished better. He is so good in that role. I'm at the 11'th season, i hope we can see him again.
@@싸넬동지-7성담배 I agree - it wasn't going to be a recurring role, and yet they went out and found an actor who could actually verbalize a lifetime of sacrifice and caring for Sheldon in a way that would make it believable for Sheldon to apologize. Would you picture Rebecca Romijn as Old Mandy, especially since her husband, Jerry O'Connell is only three years younger and Mandy’s 12 years older than him.😅
“He said never patch did you ever listen” shows Sheldon acknowledging his brothers expertise in his field of tires. One thing he never took from Georgie was his expertise in cars he just felt he shouldn’t call himself a doctor and I feel in my own opinion Georgie called himself that to piss his brother off lol.
Honestly it was emotional for me to see this scene between Sheldon and his brother! It must have been really difficult living with Sheldon and then in his shadow!! But I have to admit changed a lot since the beginning of the show!! Great acting!!

I really liked this episode. This scene between Sheldon and Georgie made me cry!!The sacrifices Georgie made for Sheldon and his family without ever telling it to Sheldon is truly a mark of wise and loving person.Don't trust Sheldon's account of people lol!!
Makes me Wonder if George had actually cheated on Mary, or if Mary had just believed that or Sheldon assumed. I doNt condone cheating. Something about this conversation makes me wonder about the accuracy of Sheldon's understanding of that situation.
I love how they gave George Sr the line "Wouldn't miss it" as one of his last lines before he left in Young Sheldon, same line as George Jr said when Sheldon asked him to come to his wedding. Nice touch to make things come full circle in Young Sheldon and connect it to TBBT. Very heavy and emotional ending for Young Sheldon, but it was a great show and I loved it!
I have never saw the Big Bang Theory before, but I did watch a few episodes from the show "Young Sheldon" recently. It was a bit obscure, and yet interesting at the same time.
First episode we get to see Georgie....and was enough to see how cool and a hard-working man he is. Good to see how Sheldon finally realizes his older brother was always there to protect him, despite being a pain in the butt sometimes 😢
I feel like Georgie taking care of his family after their dad’s death is what leads to his and Mandy’s divorce. He’s stretched to thin and Mandy is also stressing with CeeCee and missing her husband, they will bottle it up tho bc neither wants to talk about and they think it’s for the best until it breeds resentment and all blows up in their face
1:56 Georgie’s face when Sheldon apologized, it meant so much to him because Sheldon never apologized for much and was a d I c k to him most of his life so it hits hard for him
Crisostomo Ibarra It is reasonable though. After their father died, he stepped up and became the man of the house and had to take care of his mom and sister. What Sheldon described of his brother was one sided.
After watching the Young Sheldon finale, it’s hard for these 2 that it would take Georgie 2 decades for Sheldon to finally apologize for not thanking him for being there for him. Their father would be very proud at them to finally act like brothers. Now I just can’t wait to see what Georgie & Mandy would explained what happened after Sheldon left for CalTech.
This episode sure does show he really loves his brother. And it also ties well with the younger Georgie and Sheldon. I hope they show when their father died in the new series. Jim Parsons also lost his own father when he was young.
Unbelievable Sheldon's family 1. Laurie Metcalfe as his mother 2. Courtney Henggeler as his sister 3. June Squibb as his MeeMaw and now 4. Jerry O'Connell as his brother
After young sheldon this scene is completely different.... Hard to believe sheldons brother went from being an idiot bum and a loser to a responsible adult that owns a car place. The fact that same guy took care of the family after their father died is also surprising
Literally me and my brother had a reconciliation like this a couple years ago. It felt good to finally clear the air and just let go of all our grievances. My brother wasn't as far on the spectrum as me, but he never let me think my disability was a disability. He just told me, like my dad, that I just see the world differently. I was at his wedding - not his best man mind you, but it meant the world to watch him get married and I even gave a wonderful speech that he and his wife loved. I love my brother and I will fight for him. He may not have been the best, but he was genuine and he loves me. And that's all I can really ask for
That’s the thing about being the oldest sibling. The parents always ask the most of them but gives all the attention to the younger siblings. Always a thankless job
1:40-Well put Georgie (sorry, I mean George 😉). Just shows and tells that no one has it easy. Yeah Sheldon was spoiled and babied, but admitted that he struggled having to be in California alone. The rest of them had to go through a loss and missys rebellion phase as soon as Sheldon was gone. Poor Mary as well (just got done watching the Thanksgiving episode on Georgie’s show).
this definitely made sense after watching the young sheldon series finale. At first how i was kind of disatisfaction with mary and missy's ending knowing how georgie and mandy will have his own series+ seen Sheldon's future (big bang theory). We've only seen the glimpse of their grieving.
In Sheldon’s defense, they actively hid the struggles from him. Especially for someone like Sheldon who doesn’t do well with social cues, it seems a bit unfair to get mad at him for not knowing.
Blame Mary for that. Missy and Georgie and George didn't coddle him like Mary. Considering sheldon is an adult now, the responsibility for his own actions lies on him. I would understand not picking things up when you are a kid but as an adult that excuse doesn't stick. He has friends, girlfriend and you are telling me he couldn't figure out that losing her husband would be rough for Mary Missy and Georgie? Also taking first step to patch things up with Georgie doesn't require social skill. That just requires love and no ego.
@@swan_909You'd be surprised how many adults have that conclusion. Sometimes people go through life with what they think they know, and their immaturity makes that stuff seem fact as much as possible. He was coddled enough that he had a superiority complex that didn't always match his intellect or rather his maturity and common sense at times. A person could go their entire lives believing that their family will always be fine and as such, can live with that assumption based on their own perception and of events they took considerably. Excuse or no excuse. People can conflate their version of what they believed happened with their family with the real history of what happened. It's very common, especially when people like Sheldon tries hard to grow up, but lacks enough maturity to do so. His mom is partly to blame for any consequences that occurred when she favored Sheldon to be the responsible child.
The writers knew that by the time Leonard said his last line that everyone would've been feeling a similar way, so they added that bit of comedy relief, which makes my heart happy lol
It’s funny that George is more mature & acting like an adult way more than Sheldon the smart one (Ironically, the series Young Sheldon show that in his younger age his the mature one while George was more irresponsible)
Imho the one who should be apologizing is Mary. All the kids knew she gave different attention to the kids. Granted it was becausw sheldon was antisocial and spoiled, but she always compares him to the other two and rarely ever acknowledged their accomplishments compared to him. And i say this as someone who had the same ocd and spectrum as sheldon does.

If I had a brother like Georgie I'de admire him, even if I had Sheldon's academic accomplishments.

That episode was so sad
The way Georgie says “well that’s alright, I know you didn’t” with a smile on his face got me feelin stuff. He’s still the bigger and more understanding brother! Immediately defused the argument and turned it into a heartfelt scene for Sheldon. A great scene in the show this one
It would've been an even bigger character building moment if Sheldon would've said, "I should've... I'm sorry." But his character is at that point yet, even with his big bro. Baby steps.

I always said people shouldn't trust Sheldon's recollection of how things were growing up.
The scene made me feel for Sheldon. He was almost innocent in his thinking because nobody explained to him how bad things were.
The choice is yours. Choose wisely... I never forget!"
Mary shielded him from that, and that's part of the problem.
My point was Sheldon's innocence and your reply makes it sound like Sheldon is at fault for being "shielded"
This has to be one of the greatest moments ever on this series

Literally me and my brother had a reconciliation like this a couple years ago. It felt good to finally clear the air and just let go of all our grievances. My brother wasn't as far on the spectrum as me, but he never let me think my disability was a disability. He just told me, like my dad, that I just see the world differently. I was at his wedding - not his best man mind you, but it meant the world to watch him get married and I even gave a wonderful speech that he and his wife loved.
I love my brother and I will fight for him. He may not have been the best, but he was genuine and he loves me. And that's all I can really ask for

1:40-Well put Georgie (sorry, I mean George 😉). Just shows and tells that no one has it easy. Yeah Sheldon was spoiled and babied, but admitted that he struggled having to be in California alone. I really liked what georgie said, life is hard for you, but isnt mean is easy for rest of us

this definitely made sense after watching the young sheldon series finale.
