No19 take a detour into downtempo indie/funk excellence for their surprising but exquisite next release, Art Department Presents Martina Topley Bird Featuring Mark Lanegan & Warpaint -- 'Crystalised'. The track is a complete re-imagining of The xx's modern classic of the same name. Here though, it is masterfully re-built from the bottom up with Warpaint's instrumentation and vocals from Martina Topley Bird and celebrated American singer-songwriter Mark Lanegan and all finished off with executive production by Jonny White & Anthony Middelton. To accompany the release, there is a fantastic video (animation by Tim Razumovsky, directed by Javier Badet) that pairs the singing-heads of Lanegan and Topley Bird with hi-budget animation and suitably overcast imagery.

If I had to listen to only one female vocalist and one male vocalist for the rest of my life it would be Martina Topley-Bird and Mark Lanegan. I can't believe a song exists with these two on the same track. I wish there was a whole album!
If you like his vocals, you should check out mike tournier. He fronts projects like "Fluke" "2 Bit Pie" and "Syntax." If you've seen any of the Matrix movies, you've heard his stuff. His voice is just amazing.

Two of my favorite vocalists still to this day and together was something very unique. Martina's voice is like sugar coated honey and Marks voice always makes me want a couple doubles of Jameson 😊

I'm currently obsessed, it's actually better than the original version.
Only discovered this after Mark's sad death. Both Mark and Martina's voices blend so well together and are distinctive and clear of intent. The rhythm of the song is just right and very moving. I was almost in tears. You will be missed by many Mark.
This cover had done so many good things to me last year- I got to know Martina Topley Bird and fell in love with Warpaint over the course of 4 minutes.

funnysoraia I like XX, but their voices are um.... nothing special, Martina and Mark have strong and deep voices. It`s very different.

Man, if I was one of the folks at XX and heard this version of their song I'd totally blush. To think heavyweights like Mark and Martina they took time and work to improve on my own work is, alone, a compliment.
