Hi Nathan ... I'm using Van Aken plastalina on a full sized sculpture that I'm working on and I'm having a hard time smoothing it. How does J-Mac compare to plastalina for smoothing and what method(s) do you use to smooth? Thanks. John
Hi Nathan, what foam do you use for the filler on the armature?? I want to branch into bronzes .. need as much advice as I can get. it looks a lot easier on the hands than the wire I have used inside my sculptures ...
Jeremy Naus, you've got a good eye. The clay that I use is reusable wax based clay. Once I've made the mold of the sculpture I then can pull the sculpture about and start sculpting my next commission. I've got about 3000lbs of this clay, often I'm doing two or so commissions at a time!!
Wax based clay, if u read some of the comments you’ll find people noticing the dog in the background disappearing little by little it is bc and like many artists, after the sculpture is finished they create a mold so that they can sell it to companies that use them to sell high quantities of the sculptures and its usually with stone, bronze or concrete, and so after the artist finishes with the mold he then reuses the clay for other sculptures instead of buying a bunch more (saves alot of money)
Hello Danielle, Yes, the armature was welded together to give it stability. You do need to have a rigid armature as I probably use about 300-400lbs of clay on each armature and the last thing you want is to have it flopping around while you're working!
Maybe You Need to made something like rounded, moving podium,on whoom You can to manouver the sculptures 360* ? You Need just to built a platform, and add on the bottom couple of strong wheels, just like under the rubbish bin. This can be not so bad solution for Yout tiny workplace Nathan. On that way You can see sculptures from different perspectives. Good Luck.
Hello RosieThanks for the question. The clay that I use cannot be fired, it a wax based clay. If it was heated, the sculpture would actually melt. The next step is to make a mould of the sculpture. I use a polyurethane rubber, then I back it up with a fibreglass mother mould so the rubber will retain its shape.after the mould is made and the clay sculpture is removed from the mould, I then can proceed with casting the sculpture to produce a bronze. For those next steps, you should head to my website to get a full explanation of the lost wax casting method. Check out the Website at www.sculpturebynathanscott.com
пролеплина каждая складка, каждая пуговица. ноо, все не правильно. голова с шеей не сидят на плечевом поясе. Под одеждой нет структуры (конструкции тела) это бред какой то
As I responded below, I sculpt using a wax based clay called J-Mac. It never dries, so I can take my time with it and reuse it over and over it again. I've got about 2000 lbs of it.
Those suits are SHARP! Really like the texture, smoothness and detail
I love ❤️ your work ❤
Nathan….I want to be like you when I grow up…sadly I’m 52,wow your work is breathtaking mate, absolutely fantastic 😁👍👏👏👏👏👏

Is there any way of making a full-scale statue using a 3D printer? Possibly making a mold and using concrete to fill it?
Wow!! Wonderful work.
Hi Nathan such amazing work. I was wondering what type of foam you used and what the things to keep the foam in place?
Gosh, the only word that comes to mind is "gorgeous." I've never seen the process like this before.
So fun to watch! What kind of clay is used?
Hi Nathan, how long did it took you to create the two sculpture? Fascinating!
If you watch the video he takes the time to explain that the sculpting process was a little over three months. You got your answer one year later!
Great question
I can't believe somebody would dislike this.
Yep, you always get that jealous type.
Lilliana Gurney Somebody doesn't like this. It's a huge Hummel figurine group.
How do you calculate the amount of clay for the sculpture? and materials , thank you.

This Dog on the right side is a Kind of sculpture as well? ,-)

Единственный коммент на русском, и тот - негативный. Как удивительно.
