This is so great! I was diagnosed with BP II a little over a year ago. Since I was diagnosed, I have become a sponge and researched my illness. I put myself through partial hospitalization, but I had to beg family and friends to pay for it. It was life-changing. My insurance has covered $0. I am in $15k in mental health debt. I have an amazing Psych, but Finding a therapist has been a nightmare.
I do yoga, meditation, no blue light past 7pm, etc. It's hard. It's exhausting. Thank God for my wife. Thank you for all this. I learned even more!

Mental Health treatment and research is not exactly a number one priority when it comes to allocation of resources. Stigma has actually gotten worse. Try to be more resourceful. I am struggling as well. All the best!

Listening to this one might conclude that bipolar depression is a walk in the park. You neglected to mention the word "suffering" that can be severe enough to result in suicide. When you recommend patients do the things they enjoy, you neglect to consider the anhedonia and psychomotor retardation that also contribute to the hopelessness that leads to suicide. One suffering from anhedonia cannot enjoy anything, even things they usually love. Why have you avoided discussing these important contributors to suicides?

Darn esketamine quacks. Who thinks blocking nmda receptors is going to be useful for bipolar? Why not focus on something more promising like the orexin hypocretin system?

43:40. … regular sleep schedule …. For 5 or 6 months more than a decade ago, I put myself on a regular schedule: up at 06:30 every day. Every day. One of the worst periods of my life. That did not work at all. My mind would light up at 22:00 no matter what. I made sure not to take naps. I couldn’t sleep until 01:00 or 02:00 and even then, supercharged, I could not fall asleep. This is the idiotic mantra of « I’m doing fine and I go to bed at 22:30 and wake up at 06:30. If you did the same, you’d be fine too. ». Same with exercise. Morons. What a bunch of crap. Tell a (hypo)manic to go to sleep or sleep a full 8 hours …. waste of breath.

Sorry that didn’t work for you. A very strict sleep schedule helped me for a long time. It didn’t always go as planned, but reduced the amount of days spent with no sleep. There is plenty of research to back up the fact that it works.

I hurt this before from my daughter who hates any activity. have you try to exercise regularly? Go for a long run /jog ( not a walk!) every day for a week at 5 pm, dont eat heavy dinner after that and I guarantee you will be dead asleep in bed by 11 pm.

@@HBD47 When's the last time you stayed up 5 days in a row because you got really into a project you were working on? Or just realized that you really need to pee all of a sudden because you've been working for the last 14 hours straight and forgot to take a break? What do you know about severe mood swings? What makes you an expert on insomnia?
Go find some grannies to share recipes with. As I said: people who never had sleep problems seem to have lots of recipes for those who are too wired to sleep. About as useful as wet toilet paper.

I actually love it when I use it skillfully! Dialectical Behavior Therapy helps me not only manage Bipolar 2, but also helps with using marijuana when I need it and not overusing or using it as a crutch.

If marijuana is the only substance to self medicate bipolar condition than it is horrible indeed. Otherwise, much less destructive than alcoholism.
