I think it was a good return. They obviously threw a lot of jokes to themselves and the television industry but they didn't feel out of place. Also, the plot was very faithful to the classic episodes and the characters haven't changed a bit.

I actually think it's even better this time around and tbh the more times it gets cancelled and comes back the more fitting and hilarious the jokes are, and it's not like they're making the exact same jokes over and over, they find new ways to work it in, which makes it fresh. And especially when it's just a part of the show and integrated with all the trolling on todays streaming/bingeing and even lots of other funny jokes in various different styles it's just chef's kiss IMO. There's been some truly great animated comedy shows through the years so (to me) it says a lot that I've always held Futurama as my very favorite of them all, I always felt kind of melancholy when it ended and equally as excited when it returned so maybe I'm kind of biased somehow but I truly think it's kept the quality and especially now (this far anyway). I liked that little extra comment Leela threw on when pitching the revival of All My Circuits. “Maybe a Movie!?” As Bender would say, “Let’s go already!”
Meanwhile was definitely a great series finale, but this first new episode didn’t feel forced and felt natural to continuing Futurama overall. It’s honestly the show that always gets cancelled but always finds a way to come back. Quite literally if I’m being honest.
There are going to be some new episodes that follow up some of the stories from previous episodes: some examples include Parasites Regained which will follow up on Parasites Lost, the episode ‘Children of a lesser bog’ will follow up the episode where Kiff gave birth, in the original episode Kiff said they would meet up with these children in 20 years time: because these new episodes take place 20 years after that episode, this will line up quite nicely. I think that the episodes that will follow up in classic stories will justify the return.
I think it's an amazing start to what we will see, I feel like they're just re introducing the characters and meta joking about their return like every single time before. Also they're exploring the new 3023 world around them, they're stuffing a lot in there but they did an okay job. I'm also excited to see Fry and Leela's relationship, Hermes said that they are just boyfriend and girlfriend so we will probably see them get married again, I hope in this season!
I totally agree with the video and i too stand with the strikes, i support the writers, actors and animators! BTW, my favorite part is when Calculon recited Hamlet super quickly!

I am horrible at remembering dates, so I literally didn’t remember that today was July 27 until I saw this video in my feed and I was like oh crap and I went immediately and watched the episode first. I’m like you I thought it felt like an old school episode but I wasn’t overwhelmed by it but like you I don’t think we were supposed to be for this one. It was still good!

Tbh I'm glad it wasn't a reboot, I'm glad they continue the series how it should be continued, I was 13 when they cancel it at least a part of our childhood is back
I really enjoyed the first episode, but I'm so excited for the second one to be released! I've been dying for a continuation of the storyline of Kiff and Amy's children! I wonder if the one-eyed child is going to come looking for the person that gave them the one-eyed genetics -being the only one of the brood to inherit the mutation. Leela could struggle to not feel too maternal, the "child's" fascination with Leela overshadowing Kiff and Amy's relationship with their one-eyed offspring
I thought it was solid. I wish that maybe there was more commentary about the streaming production pipeline where they have to burn out their cast and crews just to make content faster and cheaper, but apart from that there was some really clever and funny moments (Robot Hell being the standout).
Great Review, Lydia! I enjoyed this episode a lot. The only thing that took me out of it was Billy West sounding a bit raspy as Fry and the Professor. But the man is 70 now, we gotta cut him some slack.
I loved it my life has been a complete mess this year and when I heard futurama was coming back this month it definitely made things a little better and it helps that like you said in the video it has that classic futurama feel unlike a lot of reboots lately can’t wait for the next episode

Right now it's just like; "Oh well, ten years have just been skipped and are gone from history, NBD!" Some pretty funny jokes throughout it. I like Calculon being back, I hope we get more of him, but I guess we'll see. All in all I'm reasonably optimistic for this new season. Also: J, Philip I. Fry.
I think I'm going to watch these newer episodes along with the ones that were aired before it got canceled in 2003 when I have the chance to do so. This episode had its own subtle ways and my favorite part was when Fry said "Ow! My cortex!"
i am so glad Futurama is back :D i was worried how diffirent it would be and where it would pick up the show from, but i am super glad with how they picked up the plot again and how they seem to be true to how futurama was back then.
The only thing I missed on this episode was the "grand first episode" feel Futurama always had It felt like Futurama didn't end 10 years ago But then again, it was totally fine and fun. It feels like the show will get more grand every weak. I have this feeling the whole "life goal" from fry will he carried on each future episode Futurama was never a serialized show, but they did had serialized elements and mysteries, and i have a feeling that Fry's life goal will be one of them, along with his relationship with Leela

Maybe I'm a bit grumpy, because they changed the voices of Leela and the Professor in the German dub, but I think they where a bit to meta with the jokes. But because most of the stuff on the internet being English I was fine watching the episode in English, because I accept the original English version more than a German dub with the wrong voices. It's like the show never ended I found myself thinking "Really? parodying streaming now that they are on a streaming service" but I told myself to shut up and enjoy Futurama being back
Am I wowed? No. But was it what it needed to be? A fun re-easing into the show. Yeah. I can't say the comedy central pilot was one of the more memorable ones.
While I don't think it's a great episode I think it's a decent to good return to the show, I hope they deliver more funny episodes in the future or should I say... In the 'Futurama!'
Futurama never was self aware and making jokes about it. It really lived in its own universe and thats what i liked about it. They are following what other shows do and i dont like it 😢
I watched the german dub, and i noticed that almost every Voice actor returned, except for Zoidberg and the Professor, and i don't know why they changed.
Not the biggest fan of Futurama, I loved the show once, but it's interesting that it has returned. I hope the best for everyone involved and the die hard fans get the show they deserve.

It was a good return, but it was sort of putting me off with how meta it was getting. It was to the point only two of the jokes managed to make me laugh.

Ok so when I heard Futurama was coming back I decided to watch the entire series again and for some reason the characters felt wrong. I don't know what it was but it wasn't the same as the characters I have been watching everyday for a month.
OK. Not great but not the worst. Got some laughs. Leela's ponytail getting the biggest from me. But went a bit too much on the self awareness humour. I'm fan of that kind of stuff but there's a limit. But do always love they stick to continuity every time the show comes back
