I'm not a guy that gets emotional but I started watching Darts in 2006 and he was one of the first players I ever saw and I remember being so mesmerised by him and then I remember crying like a baby when he retired in 2014, I'll also never forget that soft Yorkshire tone, an absolute gentlemen, so glad he beat cancer all those years ago and here's hoping he's with us for many more years yet
Well said pal 👍
He used to have a newsagent in Mexborough and he served me a newspaper the day after he became world champion
I remember meeting him as a fresh faced 16 year old. I tried to buy he’s flights from the stand that was selling accessories at the tournament we was at, they didn’t sell he’s because of sponsorship issues, I told Dennis this, to which he picked up he’s own darts, pulled the flights off and give me them as well as another brand new set he had in he’s pocket.
Not only a legend within he’s sport, a legend of a man.
Always seemed like a down-to-earth man indeed.
A great player legend without men like him we wouldn't have what we have now and that's the PDC can't thank him enough and the other legends
Darts wouldn’t be what it was today without him and the others who had the courage of the break.
@@johnholt890Indeed.
The game owes him so much……a true legend
Watching a live darts event when i was 8 years old in 1994, always remember Dennis being very nice. Him and Kevin Spiolek back then. Got all the signatures from the players back then (Warriner, Harrington, Harvey, Evison et al) What a time
An absolute legend and there would be a “Priestley Era” if not for Taylor
These Dan Dawson podcasts are absolutely brilliant. He really has such a great rapport with the players and helps us viewers get a real sense of who they are. Loving this series!
What a great interview ... I just couldn't stop watching the whole interview ... a totally open and honest Q&A session ... Dennis looks young still ... great to listen too ... thanks.
A lovely man, I had the pleasure of being invited to his exhibtions in 95 when he come to Australia, taught me alot about being humble, we need more Dennis in the game.
I liked his entrance with “The Long Good Friday” theme. Priestley was slow, but had a presence, and was a formidable player and character. One of my favourite players with Part, Baxter, and Hankey.
That walk-on at the then-WDC World Matchplay final of 1996 (against Peter Evison) remains for me the best walk-on of all time, personally.
@@Cobalt180Darts Yes, that’s the one I remember most because I watched it again on RUclips a couple of years ago. When the pdc uploaded the match, the other user-uploaded copy was taken down and the new one doesn’t have the entrance!
Dennis, you are a legend
and a gentleman 💓👏💓
Absolute legend in darts, Dennis Priestley will always be one of my favorite darts players, just look how big the PDC world championship got ever since Priestley won it 30 years ago in 1994, now we have darts players from all over the world competing in the PDC world championship!!!
A real gent. I watched him playing in Blackpool poorly and he sat for an hour signing autographs and having pictures taken with everyone who wanted and made sure everyone was happy.
Amazing dart player and should have won more world titles if it wasn't for that pesky Phil Taylor! 😂
As he said, he turned Phil into a monster.
Absolute legend, total gentleman. I was MC for his last exhibition, in Cumbria. Really proud, but also a sad occasion.
Absolute Gentleman and a fantastic player in his day
I remember Dennis playing with me attempting to play cribbage back in 2011 when he was still on the tour. Class act on and off the oche. He introduced to Brissy aswell which is a relationship I cherished right up the end.
🎯 Well played and done to Dennis, one of the great players during his darting career in those years,!
A gentleman of the game too,! 🎯
Wow what a story love these segments keep them coming they are awesome
Nice guy 1 of the pioneers. Another great interview.
14:30 He means the Sports Channel on BSB, which was separate from Sky until they merged to form BskyB *zips up anorak*
First person I saw (live) hitting 7 treble 20's when starting a leg in British Open years ago. What a gentleman! Always wearing that beautiful white/blue Yorkshire shirt.
i love hearing stories from these guys, steeped in the lore of Darts!
Dennis is a great Champion and could listen to him all day 😃Wonderful legend 😃
Absolute legend of the game
My favorite player ever
Tungsten darts first came out in mid 70s and Dennis is right they were expensive, 1975 I bought my first set and they were £16, I was a young miner myself then and my wages were only £25 a wk
Average weekly salary was £46 too. Equivalent of £165 on a £495 salary now. Very steep.
Brilliant interview
Legend. Gentleman.
He is a true in the word legend of the greats sport in the world darts
A true gentleman which I had the great pleasure of playing against him in our local pub one night many years ago.
My all time favourite dart player.
Trevor(kipper)Jones r.i.p. buddy gone but not forgotten. Dennis cheers for the memories m8
Dennis played in a team with my old man (Glenn ‘Tony’ West), not sure if it was Super League or not!! We lived in Wombwell at the time.
My All time favourite player. Dennis is every sense of the word and title of Legend. Then, Now & Forever. the Darting world would be painted Red & Black stripes if it wasn't for that meddling Taylor but one thing that lasts a lifetime is friendship of the two of the greatest champions ever to walk up to the oche. If Dennis ever wrote a autobiography I would certainly buy a copy as would everyone else. :) please Winmau release a Dennis World champion series set :)
A true gent and a fantastic player
Seems like a really nice guy ,I only watched the end of his career but iit was easy to see he was a top player in his pomp
He’s been a great commentator in the Seniors. Shame Sky never invited him to do any comms work.
He’s not high octane enough. They want people shouting and being silly. Opposite of Priestley. Part the only good commentator.
@@GA001correct
Legand. My favourite ever player, and always will be.
Had the pleasure of working on many many exhibitions with Dennis and he was always a gentleman
As was his friend Trevor that passed away
Dennis is a really nice guy, his friend trevor was a good friend of my grandads , met dennis through trevor and paul
Really Nice man!
Legend 😊
Lovely man was genuinely a nice man to meet always has time to stop and chat.
Ablsolute legend and gentleman
Played him, true gent
Really nice bloke
1992 it was Warriner who beat Dennis with Beaton beating him a year later. It must've been weird in 1993 as the Menace won his 1st round game with a 103 average.
Priestley looks like my grandpa
Great player but bloody slow 😢
That is what was so special about him.
He mentions this in the episode. Said he would've loved to have played like how they play today, but he had to play the way that worked for him - and in fairness, it worked well.
