Terrific interview with a legend of the game, very thoughtful/intelligent man and a terrific commentator. You can put John with any of the others (Wayne Mardle etc) and he will do well. That happens when you are intelligent/well-spoken, knowledgable about the topic and possess a terrific sense of humor.
Part got me into darts, watching him on tv in Canada as a kid in previously taped tournaments (as he mentioned). My favourite dart is his Unicorn Ambassador set that I use as my match dart.
I picked up 3 PDC cameramen here in Phoenix one night driving Uber. They were covering a boxing match but I was able to ask them about a ton of players off camera personas and I never got the same opinion between the three of them... except for when I asked about Part. They all agreed that he's one of the most loved and nicest guys not only to work with but just to talk to and know. I wasn't really that surprised.
One of the best commentators by far.. especially when he's with Wayne. It's all personal preference but I think you're always best to have real dart players doing the commentary. They tend to have more knowledge of the situations. And John definitely has a vast amount of knowledge on the game. Lovely man! Here in the UK he's very loved.
The Darth Maple is my favourite darts player and commentator. 🍁 The reason why, mainly, is that he reminds me of my late uncle. My uncle Alan played darts in the super league, and was a real gentleman. John comes across always a gentleman. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes, but I'd like to meet him..
As a Canadian, I was shocked to see that one of the legends of the game came from Canada. I had no idea until I looked into his career. Glad to have a Canadian representative on the global stage!
Strange to think I’m from the north of England and been a fan of his since his 1st world championship win. He’s always been a tenacious competitor, one of the best counters ever and I think massively underrated as a player. As a commentator and pundit, second to none currently.
@kalladom 55 Part is class. Only recently he kicked off about not being on the wall of previous PDC WC winners... je was damn right at the time. He deserves respect.
What a fantastic interview. I owe a great to deal to John Part, for if it weren't for him my serendipitous introduction to darts wouldn't have blossomed. Though still a niche sport of sorts here in the United States, I couldn't have imagined that a US born citizen like me who's been an ardent fan and historian of North American sport for over 45 years would get hooked on the arrows. By far the best point he makes is the fact that professional darts is not available on a major cable network in the United States and maybe Canada. I have Verizon Cable and on Channel 806 I get Willow TV where I can Cricket and Cricket highlights almost 24/7, including live events. I'll get my kid off to school many morning when darts aren't on, have a cup of coffee, and watch Cricket for an hour or so. Can't do that with darts, although they tried it with BBC America a few years ago and I do not think that worked out because people were having a hissy fit about Dr. Who episodes being preempted. DAZN does add to the appeal, but until you latch onto a cable network, the bigger the better where the major events are shown live, the absolute explosion of darts in North America, particularly the United States isn't going to reach its full potential, which would be a shame after the success of the US Darts Masters in New York City.
Just think there's only 3 players who have won more world titles in darts than Part so just shows how good he was/is as a player and also great pundit/commentator for the sport aswell
What John Part done to darts was no different than what Clifford Thorburn done to snooker. In the sense that they were Canadian players who were playing sports that was(to some extent) not that popular in their own county at the time. Yet, they changed all that for North Americans. And won majors. Especially being the first non-British players to change the sport to some degree. And John Part is no Exception is to that. Underrated player and brilliant pundit/Commentator.
the reality of the game is that you always play to your competition. if you only play "pub" level competitions, you play at pub level. this is a difficult mentality to break away from since our introduction to the sport typically arises from such humble beginnings. the modern game's "superstars" can all hit the major shots when it counts, but the mental game of competing at this level (consistent 4 - 5 round games) is tremendous. in my career as a north american competitor (30 years 1980s - 2010s) my goal was always to minimize my mistakes by mentally calculating numeric positions to ensure that in the event of my opponent missing his shot, I would at least have the opportunity to step up to the challenge. its how I managed to win as often as I did.... and in the future, this tactic will become more prevalent as new players attempt to forge their way into position......
I’ve always found John very witty and dry sense of humour wise. Regarding his Uni exploits - “I had no plan. I had nothing” 🤣 These interviews are fantastic.
Part is correct. Until darts are televised in the US, the sport has zero chance. We can't even watch Sky Sports without using a VPN and faking our location. Thanks for nothing, Sky. I enjoyed the interview and like Part. I know him as a voice more than player. I also greatly appreciate all the channels with dart content, along with Snooker. Without ever having clicked on an MVG or Ronnie O video, I'd have missed out on nearly ten years of awesome sports that virtually no Americans know anything about. Most people who play darts here, don't know 01 games. Cricket is what we play in bars/pubs. I'm nearly certain it's because we're too lazy to do math in our head. 😅 Seriously.
How can you not love John Part? I am from the UK and love his commentary above all others.
Stuart pyke and john part in the box you can't beat it
If I had to choose my personal favorite darts commentary duo (aside from Sid Waddell and Dave Lanning), it would be Wayne Mardle and John Part.
Watching this from Oshawa, and very proud of John and Cliff for their respective achievments
An underrated darts player. A brilliant pundit and Commentator.
Could listen to John all day. Credit to the sport!
Just a legend and a brilliant commentater he really is
Met John Part at the Lakeside lovely guy always willing to talk to fans top bloke.

The man who got me into darts as a youth. The 3 time champion of the worldddddddddddddddddd

John Part a great Champion and has been good for Darts for many years now with his knowledge and expertise.
Great interview. Proud to have played on the Oshawa team with him . Always a gentleman and a good sport. Nice to see his success carrying on.👍🇨🇦
I could listen to John part all day .true legend best counter in the game and a genuine bloke 👌
John Part is the one who made me want to play the sport and I'm English. Loved the way he played the game! Great interview.
He had great bottle. He was lethal at the the treble, single, double checkouts under pressure.
Good ol home town boy, congrats to him and wonderful journey and career he's made outa his life!
Great interview chaps. Really enjoyed that

Darth Maple 🍁🇨🇦🎯
Lynyrd Skynyrd is really great music for practice
LEGEND
I'm sure I remember John commentating on the bdo world champs years ago, like 20+ am I going mad?? I thought at the time he's a good commentator
Correct. He’s commentated on the bdo at lakeside several times
He was great as the neighbour in the burbs...
John part the only man to do it against Phil when Phil was in his pomp.
Part is world class commentaer his loose to bill davis was one biggest ever
Quick witted and intelligent 😎
Why don't they do a James' Wade interview, because i reckon that would be very interesting.
There was one venue where John didn't win a World title and that was the o2 the BDO moved literally before they folded.
Harry Enfields twin brother
Saw him up close in his pomp at Blackpool , literally his twin.
Wayne mardle next?
Darts is an addiction.
