A boyfriend of convenience typically refers to a guy you're with just because they're there, because it's easier and more comfortable for you to be together than to break up, and not because you're drawn to them or see a future with them. In retrospect, my ex and I sort of treated each up as a boyfriend/girlfriend of convenience. He was with me because he had low self-esteem and didn't believe he could do better. I was with him because he was one of the few people I could talk to freely and I was afraid of losing our friendship to a breakup. Not to mention, I'd never had much luck dating either and so also didn't believe I could do better, and I have a lot of anxiety around dating and so wasn't comfortable with the idea of being on the dating market again. We weren't using each other per se, but it definitely was a relationship of convenience.

I feel bad for both of them :( Devin was far more mature and seems prepared for a relationship and 100% deserves a loving partner that knows how to work things out.

Make people annoyed at you rather than sympathize. Its a lot easier to face. (But thats just going off this video, idk what goes on behind closed doors from either perspective.)
