    You are the catalyst for my new banana tree planted on the left side of my front door. Your videos saved me from quitting gardening in central Florida, because it’s not like gardening up north, and we need specifics to our location to be successful. Keep up the vids, and use your well earned experience to help newbies like me! Ty for your time and sharing your life it means so much to your viewers.

    Great video. When I harvest my bananas I just cut off the whole stalk and hang it on my screened lanai. I then pick the individual bananas as they ripen. When I have too many ripe bananas, I make banana chips by slicing and dehydrating. Super yummy!

      Same here, but I wanted to add freezing ripe banana's is my favorite storing method. We love breakfast smoothies ! A 1/2 a cup of almond milk and a handful of frozen chopped banana, and you are done. Many was to change up also. Cinnamon / peanut butter and so much more.

    My neighbors who moved from up North to S. Florida where surprised to see bananas on my tree in the front yard, they where even more surprised to learn that they are edible. Now they are anxiously waiting for me to harvest so they can try some. Thank you for the information, I was always confused as when to actually harvest them.

    Cool video. Is it important to harvest them all at once?

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  2 года назад +4

      No you don't have to. You can harvest as they ripen. I find sometime they don't ripen in order (i.e. some in the middle which are hard to access with the rest still on the bunch). They will ripen pretty quickly. So once one is ready... the rest become ready pretty quick.

    I have been watching your videos for almost a year now, I live in an apartment complex in North Central Florida and am hoping to start a Banana plant very soon. You have shown me so much information about planting, watering, feeding and best positioning of the plant. Lucky for me I have a South facing patio and it always gets lot of sun. My question is.... In North Central Florida when would be the optimal time of year to start a Banana Plant in like the Gainesville area? Love your videos... Thank you

      I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed! 🥰 I would feel comfortable in April to plant. Just watch the watering since it will be the dry season. You may be able to plant in March but I would evaluate the forecast (since you are bit North of me). Hope that helps! And best wishes 😊

      I cover some of this in the banana plant care video. But in short, twice a week outside the rainy season for watering is what I do. And I add mulch 1 to 2 times a year plus some compost.
