They’re so easy for me here in central FL. I love bananas for their ornamental beauty and their delicious fruit
We shared our bananas 🍌 with our neighbors when we harvested our bunch earlier this year. It brought smiles for sure.
Yay! What a great gift Isabel!
Best video on harvesting bananas for the personal grower in FL! Thank you so much! I love your channel! Spiders ...!!!! Ha ha ha.
You are the catalyst for my new banana tree planted on the left side of my front door. Your videos saved me from quitting gardening in central Florida, because it’s not like gardening up north, and we need specifics to our location to be successful. Keep up the vids, and use your well earned experience to help newbies like me! Ty for your time and sharing your life it means so much to your viewers.
Awww! I'm so happy you didn't quit. You'll get there Jenny! Keep going! 😄
Great video. When I harvest my bananas I just cut off the whole stalk and hang it on my screened lanai. I then pick the individual bananas as they ripen. When I have too many ripe bananas, I make banana chips by slicing and dehydrating. Super yummy!
Same here, but I wanted to add freezing ripe banana's is my favorite storing method. We love breakfast smoothies ! A 1/2 a cup of almond milk and a handful of frozen chopped banana, and you are done. Many was to change up also. Cinnamon / peanut butter and so much more.
What up coolsville ? 👋😎👍🌱
@@ronhart4166 I also freeze ripe, peeled bananas in ziploc baggies. :)
@@geraldfranz9085 What up?! 😎😎😎
Great idea about the banana chips! 😄 And picking them one by one!
My neighbors who moved from up North to S. Florida where surprised to see bananas on my tree in the front yard, they where even more surprised to learn that they are edible. Now they are anxiously waiting for me to harvest so they can try some. Thank you for the information, I was always confused as when to actually harvest them.
That is awesome! 🤩 🙌
Great video! We cut the whole bunch and hung it to ripen . I made 15 loaves of banana bread and pureed the rest of the bananas for smoothies or pancakes.
That is a lot of banana bread! 😄
@@WildFloridian it is! But all of the family and friends got to enjoy it.🙂
Note that adding bananas to your fruit smoothie lock the absorption of other vitamins and minerals.
How long did they take to ripen?
Where did you hang them?
Great information!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the tips because I am growing my first Dwarf Cavandish!! Remember to use the leaves as mulch on the base of the banana plant. They like that.
Great video and perfect timing our Cavendish produced its first rack of bananas we counted 60. So excited as a northern gardener this is amazing we showed a picture to family and friends. I think everyone is getting banana bread for Christmas.
That is awesome! I'm so excited for you!
Awesome 🥰👍
Cool video. Is it important to harvest them all at once?
No you don't have to. You can harvest as they ripen. I find sometime they don't ripen in order (i.e. some in the middle which are hard to access with the rest still on the bunch). They will ripen pretty quickly. So once one is ready... the rest become ready pretty quick.
Got my first banana plant 2 weeks ago. Neighbor let me have a pup! Eeeeeeeeeeeeek!
Amazing! Great neighbors!
Honestly this is a great tutorial for all us newbies! 😉
Glad it was helpful! 😄
Thank you for the video, have a nice day !
WOW! 😯
Great video as always enjoyed it thx for sharing Be safe
This was really a great video. I can not wait till my to my tree gets bananas
Yay! 😁
Been binge watching your videos, thanks for everything you do! 🙃
Thank you for bingeing! 🙃😂☺️
Good morning! Thank you! You've got a great harvest! I have a rack hanging...waiting to harvest... it's my first rack..I was so confused about when to harvest and let them ripen.
I'm glad this helped! Best wishes on your first rack!
Thanks we have 3 Banana trees almost ready. Thanks for sharing 😃
Excellent vid! Thank you!
You're welcome!
I have been watching your videos for almost a year now, I live in an apartment complex in North Central Florida and am hoping to start a Banana plant very soon. You have shown me so much information about planting, watering, feeding and best positioning of the plant. Lucky for me I have a South facing patio and it always gets lot of sun. My question is.... In North Central Florida when would be the optimal time of year to start a Banana Plant in like the Gainesville area? Love your videos... Thank you
I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed! 🥰 I would feel comfortable in April to plant. Just watch the watering since it will be the dry season. You may be able to plant in March but I would evaluate the forecast (since you are bit North of me). Hope that helps! And best wishes 😊
I like it
Question, if I were to buy a banana plant, does it matter if I buy a 1-2 ft or 4-5 ft? Does it cut off a lot of time to harvest? Thank you!!
Do you cut the whole banana plant once you're done harvesting the bananas? And also, do you keep the bananas plants that are growing in the ground or do you have to plant them somewhere else?
Question....We have 4 Dwarf Cavendish. Two of them still have bunches growing and have not rounded off yet. Near Tampa. With temps dropping into the 30's at night, should I harvest them ASAP? Or will they be ok if temps don't go below freezing?
When the bananatree has small bananas and the flower is still on the tree. When i have to cut the big flower and how so that the bananas can grew bigger?
Awesome
Thanks for all the info, I have some Dwarf Cavendish. Any advice? Are they mini bananas? Thanks!
Mine are half the size of a store banana
@@WildFloridian thank you Ma'am!
Morning! We are up in Tampa and I am hoping to get our first three banana trees BUT do they need full sun? Because I don’t have much of that lol
Howdy neighbor! They prefer full sun but you can get away with some shade.
@@WildFloridian hey you! My sons and I watch all your videos! Love them. If your ever up in Tampa come check out my spot and say hi!
Hi ihave banana tress how much water you put in the banana tree my banana they are small what king of fertilizer you use thank
I cover some of this in the banana plant care video. But in short, twice a week outside the rainy season for watering is what I do. And I add mulch 1 to 2 times a year plus some compost.
👍
I always thought banana's weren't worth it. But then I found some on sale at Lowes for $5.
🙌 Nice!!!!
Is there a way to “train” the banana plant to have the blossoms lean a particular way? I want it to lean away from the sidewalk not over it.
That is a great question. I am not aware of any way to make it go one way or the other.
Have you noticed if the blossoms are more likely to bend towards the sun or away from the sun?
Can you also use the banana stem and water/sap from the tree for another resource such as food, syrup etc? Weird question, I know.
I've never heard of anyone doing that but the water is drinkable and sweet... so it is worth a try!
@@WildFloridian thanks for the reply! Guess we’ll find out.
Does your tree die now?
Iam an Indian farmer, my name is krishnan
Hi Krishnan!
So do you guys eat a lot of bananas?
Yep! My calculations put us somewhere around 225 pounds a year... but it might be more.
@@WildFloridian way cool
I really like eating bananas
I do not learn anything from you.
