I remember when Mists of Pandaria was announced. At the time I genuinely thought it was an april fools joke, but as I've played WoW in recent times and thought about it...
I freaking love Mists of Pandaria. See... There are these very specific images that come to my mind when I think about the different expansions.
Burning Crusade, devastation, space, general alienness. Wrath of the Lich King, undeath, the cold, death. Cataclysm, absolute devastation, the end of the freaking world.
Warlords of Draenor, war, orcs. Legion, GREEEEEN, demons. They all feel very serious.
Now, Mists on the other hand feels like a cool summer breeze.I still remember hauling myself out of Northrend to Vash'jir briefly and Uldum and FINALLY getting to Pandaria.
The lush, refreshing visual style of the pandaren settlements, the calming music. Man. Thats nice. I remember when you meet Lorewalker Cho for the first time and he gives a little speech depending on your race was really nice, because other than the generic quest NPCs saying "Hey -insert character race/and or class here- go gather bear asses for me." I can't recall many other times in the game where I actually cared what an NPC had to say. I was immediately on board with the relaxed tone as I began questing through the zones from the brief time you spend at Tian monastery in the Jade forest as a "monk" initiate, to the Valley of the Four winds travelling with Chen and Li-Li to Kun-Lai summit and travelling with the grummle caravans.
Not before or since can I recall being so into the zone experiences. I don't know how I would rank the expansions, but I think Mists would be pretty high for these reasons.

It had alot of content (except for 14 months of SoO ) but I hated it.
I liked throne of thunder alot. It was epic. But the rest is annoying. And I hated the quest line with this annoying little shit (Lili) and Chen.
Oh and don't even get me started on the Klaxxi. Their voice and dungeons and raid was so fucking ANNOYING ekekekek fuck these bugs. Id list MoP as my least favourite expansion after WoD

You must be stupid to think it was a april fools joke, since it was not announced in april fools day...

    • @thorbeorn4295
      @thorbeorn4295 6 лет назад +45

That has always been my point. I never understood the hate for MoP. Why were all these edgelords so fucking stuck on having these dark, serious and "end of the world" destruction type expansions? Literally every expac was like that. Enough already and give us something different. And MoP was just that, best expac ever.

    • @Rautakello
      @Rautakello 6 лет назад +1

The Klaxxi would've been fine for me as a race with their quests and zone excepts for that one thing. They all look the same, sound the same and have the same Old God boners. It made them indistinguishable from each other and made their quests a bit dull. "Go wake another one of your champions? Oh, whats different about this one? Nothing? COOL!" I'm sure there could've been some way to make them a bit more interesting, but I guess them being an aendless swarm of bugs was the point.

The guy with the face Same here, man. Even if I played the game since its very beginning, WotLK takes a very special place in my heart. It brought a huge amount of flavor to the story of the game, creating a very unique atmosphere in the related zones and content and, almost forgot to mention, it was the last expansion we have seen WoW as it should have always been, before interfering with the superficial and unnecessary crap Cataclysm was (not entirely). Many of you may call me an old school WoW loser, but there are many people out there who agree with me, so forget it.

@@PJSM94 I started playing in vanilla. I hated TBC, and loved Wrath. I would put Cata miles ahead of Mists though. Mists killed me for daily quests forever, even in other games where dailies aren't as much a part of the "content". Sometimes just not getting to experience something doesn't mean you're really missing something.

    1. Wrath of the Lich King. Had a really consistant theme and I absolutely loved the dungeons and raids. The death knight class is one of my favorites. Most of the areas were fun.
    2. Cataclysm. Definatly in the minority here but I loved this expansion when it first launched. The dungeons being hard made it all the more fun for me. I like the worgen race. The new zones were all really cool. And it gave several of the classes I play some of my favorite abilities like Power Word: Barrier. Only reason it's behind Wrath is because I feel it fell off pretty hard when Dragon Soul came out.
    3. Legion. The quest lines were all interesting so leveling all my toons was pretty interesting thought the expansion. Had a lot of content that kept me interested throughout. Made all the spec's feel different so I felt more compelled to try all of them. Though like Cataclysm I felt the end game stuff wasn't as fun but for different reasons. I just didn't care for the bosses in Antorus unlike Dragons soul which was boring the whole way. It's lows wern't as bad as Cata, but neither were it's highs.
4.Mists of Pandaria. Like Nixxiom, I just didn't care for the theme and aesthetic. Also found a number of the dungeons to be forgettable. The pandaren rave was never that interesting to me and Monk is among my least played classes. Far from bad, but I just didn't feel more than neutral to it
5.Warlords of Dreanor. Don't think I need to explain this one. No content, incredibly grindy, very secluded. Pretty much all the reasons you didn't like it, I didn't like it. I felt it had a good campaign, but that was about it.
Before someone tries to kill me, I didn't count The Burning Crusade because I didn't play it when it came out. I started playing WoW in Wrath and don't think judging the quality of something I never played is fair.

As someone whose favorite expansion was also BC, I do feel you the biggest downside wasn't the theme, it was the story. It was very much like, "bamn this person you played as in Warcraft III is now a boss, go kill them" with the exception of the Sunwell(which I actually got to do when currently, even if my guild didn't get passed Felmyst when it was current. However, a couple weeks into Wrath, when most of us were like 74-77, we did end you deciding, "this weekend, we are going back, and we are doing it's and we did, and it was one of my best raiding experiences ever.

My favorite is definitely Cataclysm. Just because when it came out i was like 11 or 12 and i had only just gotten into wow during Wotlk, my highest was like a level 40 hunter or something. But I remember my dad and i played a lot. We faction changed to horde and he found a guild and let me join and he helped me level up and then sometimes he would let me join raids with his guild and it was the most fun time i remember in wow. Firelands being my first raid and being so excited to get to do it and everyone in the guild was so sweet to me and understanding. I even made a little note book with printed out pictures of the bosses and wrote down the fight strategies so i would remember it. It just brings back so much nostalgia, back to when i was close to my dad and before i grew up and before life got real and it just makes me so happy to think about.

I like MoP because it felt like a vacation after 3 expansions of us facing a world ending crisis it felt nice to play a story based mostly around exploring an ancient land yes the underlying story of the faction war was present but it wasn't front and center and it was one of the best in terms of player agency you actually felt truly important contrast that with BFA where it is mostly do some fetch quests then watch a cutscene of NPCs doing something cooler than you.

It was so much about the feeling, the lore, the beauty, the calm... such a rich continent, gorgeous environnements, attaching characters and beautiful stories (We all remember unlocking the vale of the eternal blossom). This expansion gave me the most feelings. I will never forget the first time I looked at the Jade Forest, one of the most beautiful zone in the game.

For me, my list goes like this:
    -9001: WoD
    5: BC
    4: MoP
    3: WotLK
    2: Legion
    1: Cataclysm
Yes. Cata is my #1. My reasoning is that when I first started playing WoW in late Vanilla, I thought Goblins would be really fun to play. Cata brought them in, and I made my Goblin Shammy and got to 85 and finally really got into the game more than I ever did in the past. I started mount collecting, and got to 50 mounts. I did Heroic dungeons every day, and loved every minute of it! Every dungeon was just super interesting to me, and had a good level of difficulty to boot. Each of the leveling zones (Not you Vash'jir) was awesome and felt super fresh and different! Being a person that loves Desert zones a ton (thanks to games like LoZ) I was super hyped when I made it to Uldum for the first time. I went through the entirety of its questline, and to this day, it's still my favorite zone in the game. On top of all of that, the xpac was released about a year after I had finished the War of the Ancients books. Because of this, I was extremely familiar with Deathwing more than- it seemed- everyone else that was playing. I understand completely why Cata gets a ton of backlash. It changed everything from Vanilla, introduced LFR, and it had one of the worst raids in existence- Dragon Soul. But damn...I Loved that xpac.
Also Legion is above Wrath because Wrath came out at a difficult time for me, so I didn't have time to play it as much, and again, War of the Ancients novels as mentioned above. ^

    My top 5:
    1: BC
    2: Wotlk
    3: Legion
    4: WoD
    5: Cata
Ofcourse this is my personal top 5.
But the feeling I got from BC... words cannot describe how fucking happy I was when bc turned out to be even more awesome than I expected! Well, wotlk was a bit disappointing compared to BC but still a very very good expansion. The raids were awesome. My favorite was naxx. All these old mechanics and the awesome nights wiping with friends. Priceless!! Legion is more of a gear dependent expansion, with all the artifact stuff. This was one of the big disappointments to me. No more cool looking weapons to equip. Legendarys are to pick up and no longer a grind to obtain. The other expansions I really didn’t like that much. But hey, after all these years still a loyal player of wow :) that is something to think about and some years of fun to look back to!!!

Prob to me, would be something like this:

    3-The Burning Crusade.
    4-Legion.
    5-Cataclysm

  • @MikaelLV

    1. Wrath of the Lich King
    2. Mists of Pandaria
    3. Burning Crusade
    4. Legion
    5. Cataclysm
Wrath was my expansion. It was where I played the most and I loved fighting the Lich King. Finally experiencing Naxxramas was amazing after only hearing about its grandeur in Vanilla. Ulduar is one of the best raids ever created and Icecrown Citadel was a fantastic finale.
Very unsure about 2. and 3. but I did play more of Mists than I did BC. I mostly leveled in BC and never really got into raiding, which I regret to this day. However the whole Outland theme and atmosphere is something very unique that Blizzard has not re-caputured since imo. Mists was just a fantastic expansion for me. Loved all the zones except Dread Wastes in Pandaria and the raids were really interesting.
Played about 2 weeks of WoD and about a month of Cataclysm, but I still think the latter is better.

While TBC's questing was alright, I really hate how Blizzard utterly butchered the wc3 lore and killed off several big characters who had tons of potential.
-Draenei went from shadowy natives to space goat crusaders
    - They also had spaceships
    - Na'aru, divine beings of godlike power came out of nowhere
    - Illidan is now the bad guy, for no good reason
    - Kael randomly joins the legion because powah
-Killed of Kael in a dungeon, then a raid.
-Vashj dies in a dungeon, after doing absolutely nothing
    - Goblins also have space ships, because now they're tech junkies instead of traders.

They used some new techniques for a lot of quests. It's possible this never really felt that great to you.
Some were a little slow compared to TBC.
I personally after reaching 58 start doing the Hellfire intro quests. Then go to northrend and level there. Do specific quest hubs such as venomspite (tip, when you get the catapult quest at around 60, it insta-kills every mob you encounter. They still give xp.)

  • @Gamer_Girl_1337

I think Wrath of the Lich King will always be my favorite expansion. I just loved the theme, the questing was probably some of most fun (you get to become a freaking ghoul servant in Zul'Drak xD, or help a murloc tribe, or run around an alchemist lab grabbing ingredients, just great questing), the music was beautiful, the introduction of a PvP zone like winter-grasp was just epic, the dungeons will always just be a classic experience for me, the argent tourny was weird but interesting (and I remember just trying to duel everyone on those mount things, just because you could, and it was the weirdest dueling ever lol), and probably the reason I loved it the most was I had the best time with my friends in that expansion.
Honestly, that is probably what colors it so richly for me, and probably for most people's favorite expansion -- the time spent with friends :3

Have my opinion even if you disagree with it:
    1. Mists of Pandaria - Great Lore, memorable zones & music, memorable characters (LOVED the theme)
    2. Wrath of the Lich King - Awesome Storytelling, memorable zones & music, memorable characters (Grew up with W3)
    3. Legion - Alright Storytelling, some memorable zones & music, tons of characters.
    4. Cataclysm - Story was pretty ehh at times, great zones and great musics, not that many characters.
    5. WoD - Story was actually pretty good, mostly, loved the zones and music, characters were okay, cut content though...
    6. TBC - Story get's retconned too much, only like a few zones and a few musics, characters are memorable here and there.

I didn't like TBC. Might've helped if I played it during current content but right now? I hate the questing and dungeons. The zones and music are okay? But otherwise it's story is pretty meh. Illidan was cool but Legion was superior with his character.
WoD had better art, story, music, and characters. The issue with WoD was it was incomplete and in some areas it made little sense. But I had fun with it unlike TBC but that's my opinion.

This is kind of off-topic, but Nixxiom mentioned necromancers in the video and it's entirely possible that necromancers might become a class in the future. The new WoW comic talks about how death is the enemy of the Void, so I feel like the undead will have a large role to play in future expansions. With this knowledge, it'd make sense for more necromancers to pop up and lend their aid to the factions.

I believe peoples biggest issue with WoD was Garrisons and lack of content. Now thats not to say that the content given was bad. In fact I believe WoD has some of the best raids in the whole games, and many other people seem to agree. The issue lies in this one big thing. 13 months.... that is the time from WoDs last major patch (HFC) to Legion. WoD had a total of 3 major patches and lots and lots of cut content.

Garrisons were too convenient, and 13 months of the same patch gets boring. Too much cut content. The expansion was great besides that. If there was one more raid tier and garrisons were harder to do, and if they made it on our current timeline, not some back in time stuff(cos it was pretty confusing sometimes) i think wod woulda been a top xpac.

He's right tho, in comparison to BC raids and dungeons, its not even close. Besides Yogg'Saron and Lich King, the raids were much easier to contend with than BC's, and by a long shot. Raid groups were being cleared faster than any expansion to date, the attunements for BC also made for much more needing to be done just to get into a raid. Trust me, if you thought the raid content was super hard during Wotlk, I'd wager that was your first expansion or you didn't raid in BC. However, thematically, Wrath was my favorite expansion. In ways, I was relieved when Wrath was significantly easier than BC.

Hey Nix I'd love to give my own list of expansion favorites from best to worst: TBC - Wrath - Mists - Cata - WoD - Legion - BfA
If I were to have a full list that'd be It, with Vanilla If Included betwenn Wrath and Mists. For context, I'm a 13 year long Roleplayer on WoW, ever since vanilla wow, started on Moonglade, later on trasnfered to Argent Dawn as most RPers did on EU and have been enjoying the game ever since that time. I'm on the same wave lenght as you with TBC and Wrath, TBC was hard and fun, took time and effort and you felt like you deserved what you got and I remember how I got my flying mount. I got hacked on my account, the guy sold all of my stuff and when I got back my account he left the gold there, I bought my Gryphon on my human paladin and was flying. I was mostly naked and had to buy gear from the AH but I was flying! Then Mists despite the Pandaland theme was fun with the Garrosh storyline and the content It had, WoD due to me being a giant orc fanboy so I kind of give It a pat on the back and say "You could've done better... but It's ok, you were good enough" with Legion and BfA being the worst for me due to what It introduced, the modern wow architype of grinding beyond reason, Mythic+ Introduced and stolen from WoD's perfectly fine challenge system and made Into a gear grinding machine, Artifact Power Grinding (Weapon idea was fine, didn't like the lack of new talents and abilities), and the remarkably badly reworked classes, I've never more hated the majority of the classes on WoW more than in Legion and BfA and I've played the majority fo them.
Sorry for giant text, those are my two cents love to hear your thoughts too!

Started playing in MoP T_T and still didn't even get to raid before SoO so missed out on ToT and all the other raids T_T. Though I really loved Mist, sure I never went from Undead Apocalyps, to giant damn dragon destroying the world but I really liked the theme of MoP and the lore was amazing in my opinion. Sure I knew what happened in previous expansions since I'm after all a Lore-fan, but it wasn't really this world ending threat and we didn't fight a world ending threat like Neltharion or Arthas or a literal Titan but the villains like Garrosh and especially Lei Shen still felt like a big threat and strong and really cool. I liked that part of MoP, that it wasn't on this enormous scale like Cata or Legion.

I don’t like it, imo it’s the furthest away from the original ever. In WoD I liked the raids more than I did in legion, so I put WoD before it. I played both only for a few months, so I don’t know how the later raids and content developped, but I couldn’t stand playing it any longer than I did. WoD and Legion may share the last spot, Idc about them honestly.

I really agree with your top 5 and would definitely say that my top 5 are the exact same! Maybe I would rank Cata above MoP personally because I absolutely LOVED the Firelands and killing Heroic Ragnaros was such a important part and memorable event in my WoW experience. But I loved MoP raids and dungeons so much as well, thematically I liked them more than Cata. So it's hard to decide which I rank higher for those two.

Can't comment on expacks prior to cata, although i have played private servers, that is obviously not the same thing. Legion is by far my favorite of the ones i have played. Legion at launch had so. much. content. It was crazy. I didn't really mind farming AP as i didn't raid mythic. The only flaw was patch 7.2 which certainly did not live up to the expectations.

I think my De-Esser on my sound board got messed up while I was rearranging some hardware two weeks ago. A De-Esser is a device that removes hard Ssss-noises from words that contain a strong "Sssss" sound. Like, for example, the word "snake." I don't hear anything 'different' with my voice, but others seem to be picking up on something I can't hear. I tried a few different settings live on Twitch for my audience and I think I fixed it; we'll know for sure in future videos.

WoD is the Anakin Skywalker of WoW expansions. It was supposed to refocus the lore to WC3 so that everything could be cleaned up. It was supposed to be primal and harsh. It was foretold to bring back feels to the game, not destroy them.
Well, there are two things that I really liked in WoD: rare mob systems and the mission table.
Blizzard I think is on the cusp of perfecting the mission table system. This is what needs to happen:
    1) The mission table as a concept needs to be a permanent system like the Brawler's guild, not replaced every expansion be the new defacto mission table
    2) The rewards need to absolutely new and never be available anywhere else
    3) The entire system needs to be treated almost like its own single person raiding progression for the player's account (at least faction specific though). None of this seven toon class hall money farm.
Runescape's ports are very fun for those management doods like me. The class hall is superior to it because it has a bit more depth in the problem solving skills, but ports scale much better.
First, resources need to be scrapped. It's stupid. Second, progression should be mission gated. Your mission table raids various places, but each place has multiple wings with multiple bosses with multiple trash pulls. It should take you SEVERAL months to reach near the end of the progression chain. Once there, you will be able to farm highly desirable consumables. This gating will keep the consumables scarce and valuable. What kinds of things? +8 mastery points, +15% crit, +10% health, 5% leech, etc. All of them stackable with flasks I might add. Transmog, special enchants for your trinkets. Whatever. You can't get them unless you have progressed or you pony up some gold to someone who has. Third, missions should NOT reward gold, basic consumables, currencies, etc. They should reward materials that you use to upgrade your progression facilities, all of which help you progress faster and/or more in line with your playstyle outside of the minigame.
Runescape fumbles the idea a bit because the troops have highly granulated stats that have some variation. Imagine if your followers didn't counter a hazard but simply mitigated it by 23.6% and you had to mix and match troops to help mitigate that threat. It's very cumbersome. Likewise, it only allows up to 4 missions to be taken at once. If Blizzard could marry it's mission success system with the reward and progression structure of Runescape, I fully believe they would have the perfect mission table.

    Best in order..
    1. TBC - Game was challenging and rewards felt earned and deserved. Nixxiom said it, it was a polished Vanilla. Loved it!
    2. Wrath - Needed expansion on classes, like paladins gaining prot and ret as viable specs for play at it's start after 5 years.
    3. Cata - Wasn't really a big fan of the world's revamp, but thats just the Vanilla player in me liking the world I knew.
    4. Pandaland - Xpac content was good, was diverse and all felt unique, but felt it went on too long. Timeless Isle saved it.
    5. Legion - Wasn't too bad as a whole, but AP and removing the excitement of getting new weapons from drops ruined it.
    6. Draenor - It was just horrible, we all know it, lets just nod and move on. ..Never again.

MoP was probably one of the most balanced expansions we ever had with some solid lore (even if it was not your favorite setting) and large amount of content. Even Nixxiom said it was so low on his top 5 just because he didn't like the setting and that it would have been a lot higher otherwise.

My favorite expansions in order (this list does not include battle for azeroth as I have not experienced too much of the expansion yet)
Burning Crusade - Maybe part of it is that i experienced this expansion the least out of any of the ot her expansions in regards to the raid content, but this expansion is truly my number one. Like the video uploader said, it felt like a polished Vanilla. I also feel the atmsophere of outland somehow made it feel the most current even when it was many expansions old. Today outland is finally looking a little dated, but only due to the more dated textures. Each zone felt very polished and immersive. I was hooked the moment I went into the marsh, then I absolutely fell in love with it when I saw nagrand for the time. I sadly was on a catch-22 server where I couldn't get into groups for heroics/raids, unless I had better gear, but I couldnt get better gear unless I ran the entry level raids and heroics. But I cannot think of the words to desribe how fun running in bc felt for me. I really wish I got to experience more of it. The same goes for raids past Molten Core in vanilla.
Lich King- this expansion did feel a lot more casual than bc, but still held high quality questing that I enjoyed doing regularly. This was the expansion where I hit my peak in regards to how geared I was compared to rest of the server. my mage at one point was the 8th or 9th most geared alliance mage on kel thuzard during the time of the Trial of the Crusade patch. I decided to level a fresh mage in lich king and got into the expansion a little late (early summer 2009), so by the time I was max level trial of the crusade had come out and the lastest heroic trial of the champion had made the earliest raids mostly pointless. I still feel bad for missing ulduar in its prime. I also left wrath of the lich king right before ICC came out and missed out on it. But overall it was a solid expansion. heroic dungeons were easy, but they made for a nice 5 minute grind to farm gold for an hour or so everyday.
Mist of Pandaria: I never understood the early hate for this expansion, I guess people really could not take pandas seriously, but overall I greatly enjoyed all of the expansion. MOP was one of the most played expansion for me out of all of them. I got into the expansion about a half a year late, but played all of the raids and thought highly of the fights. I really hated the upgradeable gear in this expansion. This was the expansion that started the trend of rediciously ilevel requirements to get into raids such as needing an ilvl 4 levels higher than the gear that dropped from the mobs, even on the earliest bosses. I blame t his on the upgradable and warforge/thunderforge gear in all honesty. This was implemented to block out scrubs who thought they could get into raids when their ilevel was high enough, but then were pissed off that they still couldnt get into raids because the std ilvl as constantly changing... I secretly still like thunderforged versions of gear, when it was more rare and and only a minor ilevel boost. Unlike what happened in Warlords of Draenor and later on when it got to be absolutely ridiculous.
Cataclysm: I played more in cata than any other expansion. I started a few months after the expansion came out and played all through out the year without any breaks in 2011. I truly got to experience all of the content as it came out. This is to me one of the most underappreciated expansions. Most people bring this one down because it ruined the world. I honestly did not care when it was the freshest content.I enjoyed the change in questing design at the time because it was something new from what we saw in WOTLK and earlier. I thought the boss fights were very good, although I did not like how most boss fights were literally just walking from room to room with very little trash in between (except firelands), something which is standard now sadly... and hardmode bosses really changed the fighting dynamic at the time. It was fun in the earlier parts of the expansion playing the new professions and getting decent epics for the earliest raids. Sadly though after cata it left a huge scar in the game, and the questing ended up just being replicated off the format most of cata did onward.--really just like anything in life, if overdone it will get dull and boring. I could have even have hit levels like I did in Wrath of the Lich king in this expansion, however I was a believer in equal distribution of the loot and the guild/raid leader agreed. We would end up with a lot of people leaving wow or leaving for other guilds despite us making decent progress at the time, so it felt like we were always gearing people up...
My favorite point in this expansion was the firelands. A very shortlived patch at the time, that lasted only a couple months before being replaced by the final raid dungeon. I still really enjoyed the dungeons as well, although I feel blizzard made a mistake by making Zul'gurub/Zul'aman the only heroic dungeons in the random queue after the first major content patch.
Legion: I see so many people putting Legion in top 4 or even top 3 (including vanilla), but I honestly do not see why. It was horrible! The RNG gods were always at your back, the expansions version of dailies were most of the time not very fun, often being little minigames instead of real quests. I did really enjoy running M+ however, but that to me was still not enough to redeem the game as to me at time M+ often felt like just a time waster to keep you playing. I also did not like most of the raids. They just felt uninspired and run of the mill. The only real grabber reeling people into this expansion I feel were demon hunters and the return of illidan.
Warlords of Draenor: WOD is by far the worst expansion in wow history. I actually played WOD on launch day and enjoyed maxing my first character out in the expansion before raiding really started up. Indeed I felt the expansion had potential on release, as we expect more content to be released within future patches. I ended up leaving WOD right when my guild was getting into the raid content in late november 2014. I only quit because I moved to a location closer to my IT job at the time and ended up just quitting wow. I then came back to wow in october of 2015 to find the game to be mostly a wasteland low content, and low population due to lack of raid dungeons and things to do in general, This was the the expansion that really started abusing the RNG elements introduced in mist of pandaria and truly made the game feel more like a slot machine than something you worked to earn. Occasional RNG is nice, but not when RNG is common and a feature you often must depend on to get into raids. Garrisons were not pushed to their fullest potential and basically turned professions into a game of farmville.
Going off topic a bit, but to explain how bad RNG is in wow right now I will explain that, In vanilla RNG I felt was perfect. you had random world epics that would drop off any high level mob, and with that purple drop you could either use the purple to give you an edge when wearing epics actually meant something, or sell that purple in the AH for gold for your epic mount, or buying other BOE epics in the auction house. Last vanilla had some catch-up added to help people trade in their dungeon blue sets for their a stronger set to prep you for MC. This gear was still worse than true tier gear, but it was just a minor buff to help you get into raids, where you would then prove that you deserve to be given raid gear. Honestly the way I feel it should be.

People always fail to mention that Mists of Pandaria introduced Challenge Modes and provided a complete tank overhaul with the addition of active mitigation. Comming from a player who completed all gold CMs (PRE TRONE OF THUNDER TRIPLE SOCKET SHIT) and has the Mistweaver title (achieved a realm best time) on every tank class. IMO Mists of Pandaria was by far, hands down, my favorite expansion and no, I did not start playing WoW in MoP... me and my panda cub have been grinding these streets since Test Server 6.
