Refer to informal definition. lit·er·al·ly ˈlidərəlē,ˈlitrəlē/ adverb adverb: literally in a literal manner or sense; exactly. "the driver took it literally when asked to go straight across the traffic circle" informal used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true. "I have received literally thousands of letters"
Luka Puka Agreed. The word "literally" has been overused over the past decade or so. The frequent use of the word "literally" nowadays mortifies me. By "literally" people they would mean figuratively. Example: Saying a sentence such as: (I literally __________) is the informal (rather incorrect) way of explaining an action, event etc.
Gareth Williams Part of me knows you're joking but the other part of me wants to believe that you can play Mozarts 12 variation of twinkle twinkle little star.
as someone who is in the garden a lot in the warmer months, i think she captured the essence of "bee" very nicely, especially when frantically dodging them.
She's playing this as an encore piece... she is supposed to WOW the audience... some may argue that it is more musical if played a bit slower... maybe true... but in the context in which she played it, she did the right thing... chose to fly through the piece at a speed that most any other pianist cannot achieve... and musically it still works... on top of that, it drives home the point that Wang is among the ultra elite of pianist virtuosos.
The only 2 pianists who can play this are Yuja and Cziffra. By the way,the Yuja version with the almost 4,000,000 views is note perfect. This version here had a few rare errors.
Vette gaddia You should listen to HJ LIM in the same piece . She is even faster than your idol. Cyprien Katsaris and Arcadi Volodos play that also very brilliantly. In fact many pianists can play this, but all are not interested. Oh! I forgot Alexei Grynyuk : incredible ! Probably the fastest of all.
rigel48 You are partly right. I still think Yuja's other bumble bee is the fastest and the best. I read on the Net that only 2 pianists can play it properly. I am wrong to say that only 2 pianists can play it. Lu and Volodos did a fine job--my error.
I just listened to Alexei Grynyuk and he did sound faster but no video. If you can play the piano as Yuja does and Alexei we have no need to rate one over the other, as they are both worth listening to and watching their performance.
Vette gaddia I read that only "a handful" of pianist could play the Godowsky arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee...the one performed here by Wang, and the first? Marc Andre Hamelin (Canadian) in my opinion, if not as good as Wang's performance, better. Two problems with this post: 1. Didn't acknowledge Godowsky! 2. There are more then "2" that can play this...there are in fact a new generation of super pianists emerging that can literally play anything, and play it better I'm afraid. Many Chinese, but also Russian and Canadian! Where are the Americans that once had such a strong presence? I guess Julliard isn't what it use to be?
Yuja is, of course, capable of great delicacy. As John Uscian says below, this is an encore piece, clearly played to dazzle the audience. I have no idea how she plays it so quickly and I'm a fairly competent pianist. She has complete mastery of the instrument (for those who don't know her serious performances, there are plenty on RUclips to admire). Here, she's just letting her hair down. Although I would like to make certain she only has the five fingers on each hand...
ComposerInUK Every time I saw Yuja's performance video, I know that she has only 5 fingers in each hand, but I am also fairly certain she had 4 extra invisible hands to help her play those pieces.
I loved how the speed of her hands resembled the speed of bees wings, almost as if she was the bee herself. at one point, it seemed she had 20 fingers at each hand. Well done!
This is Cziffra's transcription of The Flight of the Bumble Bee. Wang's playing is technically brilliant but even an encore in Cziffra's most virtuosic style needs variety of touch, light and shade. Even so, this is very impressive playing.
This is what i was thinking. Excellent technical skill but I feel she loses a sense of the admittedly erratic melody of the piece, and its dynamics, by the uniformity of her execution. It isn't a bad version though.
Incomplete or not there is a handful of people that really CAN play so fast such a difficult piece. I hear a lot about the expense of musicality in favor of speed. But the majority of us drive common cars while a few can really drive a ferrari to its potential without getting killed. She is quite a driver. Sit back and enjoy a drive you could never had yourselves... Personally with an over 30 year experience on the instrument I feel astonished. Anyone that wants to take the wheel?
Once, when i was younger, i was proud to be able to play the Rachmaninov version. I guess i'd still be able to master that, given some time to practice... But the Cziffra version is so much more and so overwhemingly difficult that it is a peak, which only a handful of humans will ever be able to master.
+German Banstar I hate the one little kids play because its so easy but it looks hard so then these 6 year olds get a ton of attention and fame for no reason
When Yuja Wang decides to lay down a stream of pure sweet adrenaline ...... . All with speed like, .... bees, gnats, bats, cheetah and more like ...all ! All are paralyzed and freeze. One common thought they have as they hear her hum and as they feel her finger's breeze. . This beautiful profound sounding creature is fastest thing alive, best we leave her be ! . . Yuja, I love, love love this. Thank you and thanks for signing my CD in AC. You're Amazing.
There is a reservoir of spiritual gifts that belong to creator God. God is the light of light, and his love radiates everywhere. I believe that Yuja Wang is a subject to that pouring out of this excellence . She is superb in everything.
😱😱😱 wow I played "flight of the bumblebee" once on the piano... but not that fast... and just a version where you don't break your fingers while playing it That was awesome. Very impressive. Stunning.... I'm out of words
Read the description of David Helfgott (movie “Shine,” played bt Geoffrey Rush) in Wikipedia, they Google Helfgott’s playing this piece... and compare Wang’s unbelievable performance with his comparably clumsy rendition. Hmm.. I still admire both pianists, and wish I could play it at 1/000 the speed.
In terms of skill it's definitely amazing and beyond but for musicality...it's definitely better to slow it down just enough to hear all the notes and play with f,ff,pp, and p to create the visual and hear buzzing sound
The speed is not the issue here. it can be played on this speed but there are some parts which have to stay authentic, it sounds like a different piece of music in some instances. like in 0:29-0:31, what is that supposed to be? nevertheless she is very talented.

Well, it *is* cziffra...
Haha, this is gold
It seems like she's one of those special few whose brain doesn't limit the motor precision of their hands. Absolutely brilliant.
I can also play as fast as her, maybe 1.1 of her Speed. I don't have that abillity...
Once, when i was younger, i was proud to be able to play the Rachmaninov version. I guess i'd still be able to master that, given some time to practice...

- How many fingers do you use at this?
- Yes
Wtf was she doing it in octaves?!?
ikr its fucking crazy
yep this is Cziffra's version, not the one little kids play.
+German Banstar I hate the one little kids play because its so easy but it looks hard so then these 6 year olds get a ton of attention and fame for no reason
true, I just started learning piano 2 yrs ago and I'm already nearly finished after 5 months of playing it. all I have to do is make the tempo fast :P
Yes. Cziffra's stuff is Yedi level...
It looks like she is tickling the piano.
1:07
I love how she just finishes like "Boom. I'm done. Peace, bitches."
i am speachless..totally overwhelmed.
Dearest Lord, thank you for this beautiful gift of Yuja's talent.
Yuja Wang youre sooooo awesome!!!!
the most musical performance of this piece I ever heard! encore!
She's the One. She's the Best.
Haters and the "slower lovers" are silly and funny.
That was just fabulous!
It's amazing that at 30 frames per second, the video is still a blur. She's one of a kind.
damn her hands are invisible😂
Play it at max speed
That person @1:05 his face gesticulation says it all
Absolutely amazing performance

for a moment I thought I left the video at speed 2... nope
Yuja Wang´s flying fingers.....the best in the world, there is nobody like her.
there is and just a bit better
hiromi
Thats what she said o.O
Sounds like the bumble bee was on speed.
There are so many super talented young musicians like Yuga that we do not have to worry about the future of music.
Incredible! She makes it look so simple, and at her level of virtuosity, it is thusly such.
She missed a note at 1.12
Did she?
Does it matter?
Jiggy Jiggy it doesn't matter
You guys are dumb as shit they're joking

And the other name for that planet is Asia
The comment has more likes than the original comment
Is Asia planet the most famous planet from our galaxy...
One word - FUCKING WOW! Actually, that was two - but you know what I mean. :-O
Such passion. Imagine the emotion she feels while playing this. Shes probably been practicing this every day for years.
Beautiful
I can't even see her hands properly. She's damn fast.
you can hear the bees rumbling
hence the title LMAO j/k but had to say that
amazing, cant see her hands so fast
😱😱😱 wow
I played "flight of the bumblebee" once on the piano... but not that fast... and just a version where you don't break your fingers while playing it
That was awesome. Very impressive. Stunning.... I'm out of words
Wow, Just Wow. This is amazing. She is awesome. Her fingers are like the wings of a bumblebee and hands as fast as a humming birds wings.
Asian Parent: You can only play Flight of the Bumble "B", play Flight of the Bumble "A"
Absolutely astonishing
If terrence fletcher was real, he would be saying "not my tempo"

I like the man from background 1:05, he feel the music.
There's more he wants to feel...
Her: plays it fast
Me, an intellectual: play the vid at 2x speed
This is proof that your form doesn’t dictate your talent.
At first I thought “her rhythm is off” and then I realized she was playing so fast I couldn’t count as fast as her playing. Good job!!
literaly me when 1 minute until the deadline of a project
The reaction at 1:04 lol
Ikr
yeah, that says wow I cant do that on te violin :P
Jimmyqballs how
Jimmyqballs that was an admiring reaction
Jimmyqballs lmao
she totally outclassed kissin
Anand can't play piano shit. Kissin plays Romeo and Juliet the best.
Amazing!!!!! Wow! :)
as if the original wasn't hard enough... here we have insanity. OMG Yuja is amazing!
It's world class and incredible. As always, the audience messes it up after 1:38. They laugh. That is so unworthy.
TwoSetViolin brought me here.
secret to going faster of all percussion instruments: keep low to the key/ head.
Even for this piece, this is just too fast. It doesn't get better the faster it is. If you speed up a piece too much, it becomes annoying.
Totally agree! Doesn't even sound like the nice piece of music it is.
But it should feel like a buzz, its the flight of the bumble bee! I think the faster, the more annoying, more the purpose of the song is achieved!!
In terms of skill it's definitely amazing and beyond but for musicality...it's definitely better to slow it down just enough to hear all the notes and play with f,ff,pp, and p to create the visual and hear buzzing sound
whooo! lucky for us, no one cares about your opinion.
The speed is not the issue here. it can be played on this speed but there are some parts which have to stay authentic, it sounds like a different piece of music in some instances. like in 0:29-0:31, what is that supposed to be? nevertheless she is very talented.

Honeybee
The workings of nature is truly remarkable and
such a blessing. We see the beauty in many things and
sadly we may take it all for granted not realizing the true
importance until it's taken away from us.
There is a certain mystery about them.
They are responsible for pollinating our crops,
plants, flowers and the like.
They work in coordination with the queen and
they are social and necessary in our lives and
in helping the growth of the vegetation
we have come to know and need in our lives.
There is a major concern with these wonderful
workers who help in pollinating so we can enjoy
Strawberries
Blueberries
Cherries
Plums
Peaches
Tomatoes
And so much more
They are a gift from the heavens above
but there truly is a major concern
Their plight hangs in the balance as they are
dying off in droves with no explanation.
The term used for their mysterious disappearance
is called colony collapse syndrome and
it is very alarming because without the honeybees
we will certainly be affected in many ways with
our food supply
The honeybees also bless us with their miraculous gift
of honey which is farmed and processed for us
through trained workers who work in collecting
their special concoction which truly warms the tummy
and feels so good on the tongue
We need to really search for ways to help
the honeybees as their lives are truly precious
and necessary in all our lives
Oh what would we do without our
Honeybee
We must save the honey 🍯 bees 🐝!!
Emily Iannielli

Carpal tunnel syndrome? Nope, never heard of it
I love the song but i dont really like it when people play it so darn fast, like you just dont hear what they are playing.
She's also playing part of it in octaves

Yuja Wang grandissima e geniale pianista....livello stratosferico....nulla da invidiare al più famoso Lang Lang.....

this is not an art. it's a circus. very meticulously trained circus.
When I have 5 minutes left on my 6 page passage
now that's fast.
I could do that, but I don't feel like it right now. Seriously, this woman is AMAZING!
incredible! what a virtuoso!
Amazing performance, but it's really rude to just walk offstage while people are applauding for you.
Yuja is doing what is call a curtain call. All classical performers do this if the applause is substantial enough. It is the proper thing to do. What do you want Yuja to do? Stand there until the applause ends? In opera, Joan Sutherland has been known to take 28 curtain calls. She maybe went to put her hands in some cold water.
Vette gaddia sería maravilloso entenderte. Me podés aclarar que has querido decir ???
Overall so impressive, but it suffers when played this fast. Some parts sounded rushed and incomplete.
I'm so agree with you.
So agree
I agree, some parts sounded incomplete. She should play it slower.

WTF
OMG.
mean that as a good way...
Now she's showing off.
So what?
If u had earned something
Dont be afraid to show off as much as u want👍👍👍
Yuja Wang is a perfect example of how supreme technical ability supersedes common sense.
I thought I was advanced after I learned the first two lines of The Funeral March by Chopin. I was humbled by watching this. 😂😂
imagine being in a tickle fight with her!!
