+Arthur Soprani No, the real shame is all those back injuries he suffered with Charlotte which took away his power game and forced him to play more on the perimeter like a small forward when he got to the Knicks. It's cool that he expanded his range and learned to shoot the three, but it came at the expense of being able to dominate the paint with his dunks and rebounds.

Was a great college player. His 1991 UNLV team was undefeated winning against Duke in the NCAA finals. He was a more explosive player early in his career but you're right about the injury hurting him. He remained a great player because he had an all-around game and offensive savvy learned from countless hours on the hardtop. (As a teen it was said he would play 12 hours a day) Can't include him in the greatest list without an NBA championship though.
One of the forgotten stars of the 90s. As others have said, he was on track to great things before injuries, but unlike Grant Hill for example, LJ doesn't come up much anymore. Charlotte had its own version of Orlando's brief Shaq/Penny golden era when Johnson and Mourning were at full strength.
Larry Johnson was a massive individual at 6'7" 245lbs of solid muscle and on top of being a great basketball player he also knew how to box....my favorite player from childhood along with Clyde Drexler and whenever Vince Carter took the league by storm he was everyone's favorite player. Still the best dunker the world has ever seen
LJ was known for his highlight dunks and athleticism, but he had a very well rounded game. Creative post moves to make up for his lack of height, very good mid range shooter who then added a three point shot to his game, and excellent defensive IQ. all of that helped him become a great complementary piece and role player once the back injury decreased his athleticism.
Seeing that four-point play does make me wish a little that the Knicks had won that 1999 title even if it would have cost the Spurs their first, just because of the dramatic journey it took for New York to drag themselves into the playoffs and then through each round that year particularly with Ewing having injury problems. Sprewell was a beast that post season and I think had the Knicks won that title several of their players from that team would have had their jerseys retired: Other than Ewing, I'm thinking Sprewell, Johnson, and Houston in particular would have had their jerseys raised to the rafters due to the major contributions those guys made particularly on the offensive end to get key wins when they needed them.
True story.. cause even in the 1rst round against Miami it took the infamous Allen Houston layup 2 get them out of th@ round.. also most people don't even realize the Knicks were seeded @ 8 & just made it 2 the playoffs
That run was insane and I never enjoyed being a Knicks fan more. LJ showed up every game and factored into the boxscore every game. Very strong, yet skillful enough to be a great all around player (he wasn't that tall to begin with) he was the main reason why Charlotte became playoffs contenders and their games were fun to watch. I remember one game in 1992 when they faced Orlando and were down for 5-10 points from the beginning until the final seconds when the Hornets tied the game and then Johnny Newman finished it with a nasty dunk. I remembered when Johnson hit the game winning 3 plus and 1! That's when the NBA was fun to watch.
How do you like that second-ranked play he did Jordan on Jordan
I miss this guy. Watched him with the Runnin Rebels before he went pro. They can do better than this list, he's got so many slams and unbelievable shots in his career. Larry was just so powerful and electrifying. When he blew by Jordan it was hilarious...the look on the G.O.A.T.S. face is priceless!
the best HornetS...player😃
GREAT TOP 10 CAREER PLAYS WITH LARRY JOHNSON !!!!
I was 8 years old when I saw that 4 point play on T.V. I was bouncing off the walls it was so crazy lol. Became an LJ fan for life after that night.
Also, Carmelo sucks.
I'd take a prime LJ over fat boy melo any day.
Mehrab ibn Muhammad al-Islaam then your obviously a fucking moron
No. You're just ignorant. LJ in his prime was a premier forward in the league. After he hurt his back along with other injuries, he had to remodel his game into a more finesse type of forward.
Mehrab ibn Muhammad al-Islaam no youre a fucking ingorant pos. Ljs prime lasted 3 years basically ,, melo is one the most elite players your an absolute idiot and i have no bias bc i am a hornets and knicks fan ,, the two teams lj played for
yallknow Yes thats because he got hurt you insufferable buffoon. And i already mentioned taking him in his prime, when he was an athletic beast that could shoot, post up, rebound, play defense, and do all the dirty work. Melo is an overrated inefficient bum in comparison.
man he was one of my fav players in early 90s beside shaq and penny g.hill and j.kidd
i remember that game knicks 99 finals, man what a shoot, that was like last time u see place that pac
larry johnson is like hakeem oluaguan + jason williams
just murdered Hakeem's name...
Lexa Petrain put some respeck on his name
Lexa Petrain Jayson or Jason?
2:43 that crowd reaction is one for the ages
Just waiting for JJ Walker to comment 😂
He got banned from RUclips
I think a lot of people forget how good LJ was. He was a god damn animal. Can you imagine an Olympic team w/ prime Barkley, LJ and Shaq down low?
Now give Larry Grandmamma Shawn Kemp hops and a few more pounds and you have Zion Williamson .
SAGA EJ1 you left out the strength of Anthony Mason
I remember watching that 4 point play game, praying for a miracle, and he pulled that off. Probably the biggest high I've ever had as a fan
If he would have never hurt his back he would of went down a legend in the game. Damn 90's basketball was so so much better than today's game. Miss those days of great basketball.
Yeah that 4 point Knick play was off the chain!!!
that last one with the knicks i will treasure it with all my heart
this is why im excited abt zion. this kind of build of a player
Truly one of the best.
I miss the '90s God bless this brotha #2🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Team was lit..LJ, Mourning, Gill, Curry
He was always fun to watch !
