      +Arthur Soprani No, the real shame is all those back injuries he suffered with Charlotte which took away his power game and forced him to play more on the perimeter like a small forward when he got to the Knicks. It's cool that he expanded his range and learned to shoot the three, but it came at the expense of being able to dominate the paint with his dunks and rebounds.

      Very true Jalen...I used to watch him when he was w/ the knicks & LJ was such a deadly 3 point shooter (There were games in the playoff from 99-01 where he put the team on his back & put up great numbers & if it wasn't for him stepping up NYK would have lost or gotten swept (Just watch Knicks/Pacers playoff series from 2000 if anybody doesn't believe me)

      Was a great college player. His 1991 UNLV team was undefeated winning against Duke in the NCAA finals. He was a more explosive player early in his career but you're right about the injury hurting him. He remained a great player because he had an all-around game and offensive savvy learned from countless hours on the hardtop. (As a teen it was said he would play 12 hours a day) Can't include him in the greatest list without an NBA championship though.

    One of the forgotten stars of the 90s. As others have said, he was on track to great things before injuries, but unlike Grant Hill for example, LJ doesn't come up much anymore. LJ was known for his highlight dunks and athleticism, but he had a very well rounded game. Creative post moves to make up for his lack of height, very good mid range shooter who then added a three point shot to his game, and excellent defensive IQ. all of that helped him become a great complementary piece and role player once the back injury decreased his athleticism.

    Seeing that four-point play does make me wish a little that the Knicks had won that 1999 title even if it would have cost the Spurs their first, just because of the dramatic journey it took for New York to drag themselves into the playoffs and then through each round that year particularly with Ewing having injury problems. Sprewell was a beast that post season and I think had the Knicks won that title several of their players from that team would have had their jerseys retired: Other than Ewing, I'm thinking Sprewell, Johnson, and Houston in particular would have had their jerseys raised to the rafters due to the major contributions those guys made particularly on the offensive end to get key wins when they needed them.

    When I was an avid basketball fan in the early 90's, the Hornets were my favorite NBA team after Jordan's Bulls and Kemp's Supersonics. They had a top notch center in Zo, a spectacular PG in Bogues, many great role players (Curry, Gill and Hawkins) and a magnificent PF in Larry Johnson. Very strong, yet skillful enough to be a great all around player (he wasn't that tall to begin with) he was the main reason why Charlotte became playoffs contenders and their games were fun to watch. I remember one game in 1992 when they faced Orlando and were down for 5-10 points from the beginning until the final seconds when the Hornets tied the game and then Johnny Newman finished it with a nasty dunk. Rookie Shaq was like "WTF has just happened".

He was a powerful player who had really good leaping ability, and his enthusiasm was contagious on the team. To bad him and Zo didn't get along better. Their egos got in the way of the bigger vision of being a great team. They need some mature, veteran leader to settle them down a little bit to keep in mind the big picture.

      @varius456 9 лет назад +1

      Warden Freeman ok so knicks still have the edge. they made it to the finals twice and were the better team during that era. even if they had a lower record they always proved themselves in the playoffs. doesnt matter though none of those three won anything. the bulls kept winning and then when the knicks made it the rockets were too good and ewing was hurt same deal with the spurs ewing got hurt

    coulda been the next charles barkley. they had really similar games. both undersized power forwards who were athletic, could score, rebound, and handle the ball. if he didn't blow out his back and lost all of his athleticism and explosiveness early in his career he could have had a similar career to that of barkley.
