Who was your hero back in the WWF days? Was it Mr 3:16 himself, Stone Cold Steve Austin? Or was it The People's Champion, The Rock? Perhaps it was someone completely different! I always played as Stone Cold in the original WWF Smackdown 1 and 2 although he was an unlockable character in the last, mostly because his finisher, the stunner. I remember that he had 2 variants of the move, the regular stunner with the grappling button and left in the d-pad, and the "stone cold steve stunner", was the same thing but was his finisher (you know, the move that can KO you), and the opponent oversells the move like The Rock used to oversell it back in the day, it was awesome and fun to watch at the same time. However my first WWF game was WWF Attitude from acclaim, and it was okey but nothing compared to what Yukes offered after in terms on playability especially when they made the jump to the PS2 with JBI, SYM and HCTP. Awesome times, still think that WWF Smackdown 2, WWF Smackdown Shut Your Mouth and N64's WWF No Mercy are the best wrestling games ever made, although newer 2K games mimics the show perfectly they are way too complicated, the arcade nature of Yukes and AKI's older wrestling games makes them perfect if we look at them as videogames, they're simple and fun.
What's interesting is the first two smackdown games were based on the engine of a bargain bin wrestling series Yukes made for The Simple Series set of games in Japan called The Pro Wrestling. Their other more popular series Toukon Retsuden was instead gonna be used for WCW/nWo Live but it was ultimately cancelled when WCW ended their relationship with THQ due to not wanting the same publisher working for the competition.
This game was groundbreaking at the time, it was the blueprint for all future wrestling games. Shut your mouth and here comes the pain are probably the best wrestling games ever made, and they all started from this. Also, I once won the rumble with Paul Bearer, by just running away from everyone for 30 minutes 😂
I remember thinking back then that the graphics were photorealistic, and how could they EVER get better than this ! There was that glitch when creating a custom woman wrestler too. That if you selected the biggest boob size (and who wouldn't !), and a skin colour that matched the colour of the skimpy outfit you chose, that the game got confused and would not render the outfit at all ! Ah, the good old days of bad QA ! 😀
I remember the jump in quality from the likes of warzone and attitude to the smackdown games being massive. Great video. New to your channel. Gonna watch a load more of your videos on my night shift later.
1:30-1:37 They got the rights to WCW around that time period. Unfortunately, only two were made and neither of them were as good as what THQ, Yuke's and AKI were pumping out. Also, SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 came out in 2010 and WWE '12 came out in 2011. The last WWE game under THQ was WWE '13, which came out in 2012.

You should have made sure there was Stonecold shown at 3:16
I went back to 3:16 in the video thinking I missed an easter egg 😂
Smackdown 2 was just the best wrestling game in PS1 and N64 was either the WCW/NWO revenge or no mercy.
Totally agree, they were awesome to play!
Never played wcw or nwo revenge but I played the other 3 games tho I agree with you on smack down 2 and no mercy for sure

Chris Jericho was my guy. Spamming back elbow attack like I had a springboard for a spine.
Haha Chris Jericho was awesome! The Walls of Jericho was a legendary move too 😁

That's brilliant 😂😂 I don't anyone will top winning a Royal Rumble with Paul Bearer 😂😂

That's hilarious 😂😂😂
Loved the game, and follow up. To be fair I loved Warzone and Attitude as well 😂
Same! Warzone and Attitude were both brilliant too 😁

Thanks for the sub! Glad you're enjoying the videos 😁
I loved the introduction of the backstage areas to fight in in this game
This was such a huge upgrade on Attitude, def one of the most played games of my childhood.
It really was such a brilliant game! Thanks for watching ❤️

I haven’t played this one but Smackdown vs Raw 2010 was my favourite game for a long time!!
Yeah Smackdown vs Raw 2010 was epic!
I still have it too along with the PS1 phat
Nice! It's still so much fun to play today 😁
