He got better and better. His acting was pretty good back then. And I think it only went up. He understood his strength. Action. Stick with action. Now, he can run in a pure acting, no muscle needed movie. Like he did in Creed.

This was before Rambo action man. First movie was more realistic depiction (well in this fictional story based on real events atleast) on a well trained war veteran who suffered from traumas from the vietnam war.
He didn't had a phobia problem with the rats crawling all over his back, he had a problem with the rats bitting him, that gotta be a complete painful feeling that y he got rage on them

Rambo was so resourceful when he managed to make a torch and find another way out of the abandoned mine after a rocket launcher collapsed the front entrance by a National Guardsman because Rambo opened fire on him and the other Guardsmen as his way of telling them he won't surrender,though he did later to Colonel Trautman after seeing him face to face for the 1st time in years.
Yeah, Colonel Trautman was the only officer that he trusts as a friend. And he was the only officer who knew that not only Rambo was one of his best men, with an unprecedented huge particular set of skills, (Sorry Liam Neeson. No Taken Puns.) but Rambo survived any toughest situations, including the Rats in the tunnel.
Most inept police force ever. You would've thought that they would have researched all exits to that mine and stationed people around them in case he made it out.
Just see the feel when he sees dayloght, its a relief from tiredness over the search, but its the relief of HOPE to a continuation of life itself...and also a kind of mixed feeling of you know I cant put it so damn crisp, but just it conveys wonderful feelings. The author is to highly comendable in writing this scene and director also in bringing the actor to life. Hope of a New phase of life srarts here. Otherwise imgaine a low level tunnel, with no food, rats, water, no clothes lighting, (how long kerosene would last) soldiers waiting anyway outside...to shoot on sight...shoot! they didnt bother to blow him up...In those conditions already a tired, injured physically and mentally broken, disarmed.... RAMBO also would have succumbed.... Oh what an expression....RAMBO AT HIS BEST MOMENT.

The "following the wind" isnt an idea its an actual navigation technique when in tunnels or isolated areas, likely he was taught that as a marine

I think he would have had to create wicks for the lanterns. His approach was expediency.
