  • Hello Indulgers today we are taking our taste buds on a journey to Senegal 🇸🇳 the original home of jollof rice. Thieboudienne is Senegal's national dish and the Wallof word literally translates as "red rice and fish". This flavour packed rice dish will leave you wanting more. The slowly cooked rich tomato stew base offers a depth of flavour. Paired with a variety of vegetables and beautifully marinated fish Thieboudienne truly deserves more attention. I hope you enjoy my take of this gorgeous dish and bring it into your homes. Thanks for watching

When somebody told me that Nigerian Jollof was not the original, I was super shocked. When I went to Senegal, I didn't expect there to be so much variation, but it is amazing how much the dish has changed, as cultures and ethnic groups adopted their way of making it!
The first time I tasted Thiep, if I hadn't been told that it was the original Jollof I wouldn't have guessed it. So many new and different flavors together in one dish. But I looovveee it! Especially the tamarind 🤤to the side. You put a LOT of work into this dish, tysm for sharing! If I can ever find all the ingredients to make some for myself and family, I definitely will be following this recipe.

Plus it’s not everyone who fries the fish. The most popular and original way is to Immerse the fish in the broth After the vegetables are cooked. Sorry that is not a type of jollof rice. It’s called Ceebu djeune or guinar or yap What means in order rice with fish or chicken or meat. This dish is the original created by a Senegalese from Saint Louis named Penda Mbaye. Jollof Rice is derivative of this dish even the name Jollof belongs to us 🇸🇳 Djollof was a big empire of Senegal. That’s where the name comes from. When the Nigerian and the Ghanaian were introduced to this dish they called jollof rice to say the rice of Senegalese because we speak Wolof our language.

Talk about labor of luv! Lol Colorful but crowded. The Nigerian & Ghanaian Jollofs are often served with a side vegetable salad not stewed. To each his own...👍

Don’t forget the dodo! As a Ghanaian I usually serve jollof rice as you mentioned. Thieboudienne is something I make when I really want to treat my family. The vegetables soak all the flavours and make the dish that extra bit special. I wish you could try it 😊
