+HKMcC _ This is my favorite body style, Before the company went into bankruptcy protection in 08 and cheaped out on everything. They didn't fix it until 14. I found from 08-13 cheap interiors, cheap paint and I never liked the outside where the doors go to the bottom of the truck. Without rocker panels it always looked off to me...
+DEBOSS GARAGE Yes. I have a 03 with 250k. They are awesome trucks. 08-13 had a much poorer build quality like you said. But now GM has really turned itself around and building good cars/trucks again!
240xxx km's on my 2008 Sierra 5.3, not a single issue short of regular maintenance on wear and tear items. I believe its the younger generation of people not taking care of their vehicles to blame. I truly do not believe for a second that GM cheaped out on everything. The interior, sure but its a pickup truck made for work. My paint is in excellent condition and very minimal rust on the underside. I live in Ottawa, ON and drive in very similar conditions that you would experience. Just my opinion on the nnbs style truck. Great vids!
@@hkm_865 Thought I would chime in a few years later and would like to say I have a 2005 Tahoe that is going on 365k miles and still running smooth as ever. Hands down one of the best platforms gm has made.
Our company has twelve 2015 Silverado 2500HDs with the 6.6 Duramax with the Allison and they are amazing trucks. When my 2014 3500HD Ram was in the shop I drove one of them and pulled my 36' gooseneck flatbed with it and even loaded down with 32,000 lbs behind it, it pulled it no problem. They really are a wonder. 417 hp/765 lbft of torque is a feat, and they haul ass. My 6.7 Cummins makes 370/800 and you can definitely feel the difference in gearing. My Ram (single rear wheel) is rated for 24,500 GVWR and I've pulled close to 40,000 lbs with it (in extreme circumstances, short distances). I'm a big fan of both trucks, and I have always loved Mopar, but I love the Chevy's torque. If I could have a Dodge chassis, a Duramax with an Allison, and a Ford interior, I'd be set. I didn't include the PowerStroke because our company couldn't strike a deal with Ford for this year so we didn't get any of their new trucks. I have no experience with the new Fords.
that laugh at 7:01. the Diesel HP laugh. I rode in a '08 Dmax with twins, the owner of BR Powersource, in Oakville, owned it... yes, that grown man giddy laugh, so great.
This video may have pushed me over the edge in my decision to swap a duramax into my truck. It’s worth it if you tow I think. Good vid as always! Let the research begin!
Hey buddy hope all is well. I have to just say by starting off by saying your videos over the years or just amazing you or one of the few I would say master mechanics that can handle anything thrown his way
I need to do this to my 2000 SLT Yukon 4x4. It was my dream truck in highschool so I'm kind of attached to it even tho I can afford something much much nicer. Sentiment makes us do stupid stuff sometimes lol
Is Canada’s strict on emissions? Do you still have to get diesel emission tested? I notice he still has the egr in there. Well at least he still has the stock cold side(passenger side) intercooler pipe which is apart of the egr system. Still has stock air intake too. Didn’t sound loud at all so I would imagine it’s stock exhaust too.
With that I know you're very busy but I'm just looking for some input I have an 05 Sierra HD. 8.1 truck and I'm trying to rehab it and put it back on the road going over everything from front to back top-to-bottom but to build this truck right with Raylar parts to make real power I'll have over $10,000 in the engine alone before I touch anything else so I'm debating on doing an LBZ lmm or LML. If you could when you have a second please reach out and just let me know what you think should I build the big block is there other companies that I could have better options with or just go with the diesel. As an FYI I do have an amazing engine builder on machine shop local to me
I tried to find Todd with the links you gave but no luck. I’m in the middle of my lbz swap in my 05 Avalanche. I need help with the motor mounts and the body lift he makes.
No its ridiculously efficient. If you tried to do this swap at your local chevy dealer or any mechanic for that fact they round up in terms of labor, not to mention their lunches are included in the labor. 😒
I’m about that into my first one. The amount of shit that just plugs up and works is astounding. The lengthts GM went to reduce the number of parts needed is insane.
@@mikep6726 I'm still finishing up some final touches like the custom A/C lines and driveshaft. I chopped down a 3500 silverado frame and dropped a suburban body on it so I've had quite a bit more fab work than a standard swap. But its just as reliable as any other duramax at this point.
Hi greetings from BC! I can get a low km 3/4 ton crew cab 4×4 2007 classic LBZ, can I drop a suburban body on that crew cab 6'6" box frame do you think ? 😀 I get it complete but I don't want the wheel chair lift crew cab body 😁
Entirely possible. You will need a body lift to cover the much larger transmission. Todd from this video makes them and ships them all over. His link is in the description.
I have a ‘06 1500 Suburban, I’ve been wondering about the cost of a LBZ swap, I know a 12 valve swap would be so much cheaper and cheaper to build, but you have to do all that cutting to fit the 6cyl and beef up the 1/2 ton frame....
I have a 2003 GMC Yukon XL with a Flat Spot Cam (misses at low RPM's) and a bad leaking Rear Main Seal the Motor (5.3 Vortec) has 260K on it but runs pretty good. I'd imagine it's easier to get to about 400 RWHP with the 5.9, cheaper too. Can you still plug into OBD 2 port for anything ? Thanks! I'm also an Ontarian (Renfrew)
pre 2000 you can reclassify your burban under "hot rod" go to the licence office and pick up an application. It will have to pass the emissions for the Cummins which should be a sniff test. 2000 and newer, you have to be a little more creative...
I'd love to have one of these. I know that GM makes a 1 ton Suburban starting 2016 but I'm not sure if you can get it with diesel.. If it does have one, you probably gotta have that DEF, too..
im going to ask this at the risk of sounding dumb but.... would it be possible to start with a truck and chop off the cab and add the body of a yukon or suburban what ever your flavor? i have seen this done with the F-series going to excursion heck even a 6 door excursion?

This is a full time Buisness. Take the new Tahoe/suburbans rip out the stock engine and tranny, swapin a duramax and people would actually buy these things if I had the option I would.
