@TheSmokingTire : Thanks for shout out at the 5:35 mark! That's impressive - you remembered T10.. while nearly passing out of hunger!! See ya again soon, keep up the good work! -Anish (& the Speed Freaks USA gang, all big fans of yours!)
Thank you for another excellent video. I have been waiting for my M2 for many months so these videos both help to reassure me that I am not totally insane for dropping 50k plus on a car I haven't driven while also making the wait that much tougher. Just a couple more months of waiting for me, having your stamp of approval on the car is great verification.
Man, have you tested the M2. I have a hard time deciding between a used M2 in few years or an even cheaper M3-e92. Both seem equally fantastic to me :/
Matt, "Ma deuce" has been the common name for the .50 cal browning machine gun for decades. Car seems fantastic and fits your skill level well. Nice laps, good review.
I drove a 228i a couple months ago (on the street only, mind you), and that car felt PLENTY fast. Definitely enough for daily driving; more than enough, in fact. I can't even imagine that same chassis with 120 more horsepower. This thing must be a riot.
When I heard your alarm go off I fast forwarded exactly 8:59 to watch it go off again because I saw you only snoozed it lol. Now to go back and watch the rest...
Entrepreneurs in Cars I've driven it. Wasn't mine. I'm in the same boat too, tryna decide whether or not to trade in my 335i for the m2 or m4. When I did, I had to pay really close attention to notice the slightly tilted seat but no one would know if u didn't point it out to them. Once you drive it and really push it, you won't care. Hell of a fun car for a decent price.
Looks like a blast! I hung plate to plate to a guy with one of these at thunderhill recently. It was drift happy like Mat was experiencing in this vid.
I have an M2 on order and I've been waiting months for Matt to test one. We're similarly sized so if he fits, with a helmet no less! I will fit comfortably as well. Most motor journalists are the size of jockeys, which tells me nothing about how I'll fit in a car long term. From my track day test drive, the car is such a fun car to drive. People obsessed with numbers will miss the point of this car. It's engaging, forgiving and so much more than the sum of its parts.
Nice video man was glad to see how happy you were driving this seems like a great experience hope to have this car one day e36 m3 was my dream car growing up 😀
Real is the way forward. No need to fake perfection. Wait until next week when I full on spin out in a McLaren on track! That's about as real as it gets.
What a charming little coupe! >_< The M2's fun spirit (good steering, progressive oversteer characteristic) and distinctive proportions (short-wheelbase, upright cabin) recalls for me the legendary Alfa GTA. I would love to hear your impressions on the newest Giulia (sedan) when it reaches America! Thank you Matt ^^
What's your take on these newer BMW interiors? Does the overall fit and finish and quality still seem to be as good as they used to be? I just took a 435i for a spin and maybe it's just me, but they don't feel as nice as the older models.
Honestly imo each car is for a specific person, if you want a bad ass american car that also can outdrive german and italian cars id go mustang, but if your more looking for something classy with more elegance id go for the m2. Although considering the way they talk about the gt350 id probably buy that then sell it after about 6 months for something else, unless i was rich af and then id just keep it
Getting sick of BMW putting Turbo I6s in pretty much all of their lineup now. Awesome engine no doubt, but sorta bland. Pretty soon you wont have the option to get a big displacement, high-revving V8, at any price point. I think the GT350 would be an awesome experience compared to the M2. Just my opinion
I would take a turbo 6 any day. Infinity is getting around 400 HP out of their 3.0T, I can't see needing more. Hell I wouldn't be unhappy at all in a 228i.
Yeah I was honestly looking at one of these with my woman. There is ZERO cars on lot to test drive as all of them are pre-sold. I couldn't even sit in one at the Vancouver auto-show as that floor model was sold too (I sat in the m3s, m4s) Although I completely agree it's good value; the new Cayman 718 is priced exactly the same here in Canada at $62k which is an even better value, depending what you are looking for. Ultimately we've decided for the 718 S as it will be a our third car after our commuters. I just find the Ms sitting in a weird spot for me. I don't think it's great daily driver material, and I personally think it's not quite that special enough to fill a weekend warrior/fun car build like, say, a Camaro or Focus RS would be. You've driven both, Matt, what do you think?
Thanks Matt, always love your show and enthusiasm. I'm coming from a 1M and have an M2 for two months now. Need to get her to the track asap(Assen/Papenburg/Zandvoort) . i see 'drifting' (the thingy you were doing lol) is possible in 3rd gear. Thanks. Cheers Robin_NL(bimmerpost)
+DEM BLAAZE it has auto rev matching in Comfort and Sport mode. It turns off for Sport plus. And you can and should learn how to heel toe, it just takes practice like anything else
+TheSmokingTire thats what im saying how does it feel like to not be able to heel and toe. To u and i its natural but all of a sudden having to drive like ppl who cant heel and toe doesnt it feel kinda wierd?
It's horrible how heavy m2 is :( I would choose the manual version, no sunroof, lightweight aftermarket R18 wheels, ditch all the seats, and hardmount one fixed back bucket seat just for the driver.
Such good reviews (although i don't always agree), no one else is doing anything similar. Love the M2 but needs a few more unique bits like a carbon roof to justify its price. Think when i change over the next few months i will go for the M4, but this thing holds its own.
really? for the price the gt350 is way better honestly. I bet the m2 would be good if your into tuning and that kind of scene. gt sounds and look killer and the m2 is generic
M2 is not generic. I own one. I get thumbs up and people stop to talk to me everywhere. No one knows what it is, and it looks special. Follow me @stealth_M2
Nope. The springs, shocks, and sway bars are non-adjustable. The drive modes change the amount of power assist and feedback from the steering, the lockup maps for the rear diff, and the amount of help the stability control will provide.
You should really invest in a drone automatic chase cam, for aerial shots without needing a chopper. I just prefer to see the actual car, and that would be a simple solution, without having to have multiple cameras up all over the track.
Yea but if you send it up high enough, on a shorter track like Willow Springs, then you would have an outside shot for several corners, and if you cut over the middle of the course, then you're getting more outside shots. So instead of automated, just get a camera guy to fly the drone, and you could probably stay with it most of a short track. I'm not a drone expert, just a thought, because I just enjoy seeing the outside of the car from above on track shoots.
Has this man ever driven such a fast car one that pushes you in your seat into the bolstering while you stand at the edge of life 24/7 saving your self from death some how...yes guys it's that car... The prius...
Matt, how would you compare the Mduece steering and chassis feel to the F80/82 M's? I test drove an F80 M3 the other week (first time) and it did not have the direct/precision steering and chassis feel that I am used to from previous gen' M cars. Nice review!
Thanks, me as well. I actually had an opportunity to test drive an M2 yesterday (used one got traded in already :o ). Feels much different (better, imo) that the f80 M3 for sure. Nimble and responsive.
Having a good time out there I see! How close does a 135i with a tune and a few upgrades get to the level of the M2? 80% of the way or are they in totally different leagues?

Thank god for the manual!

This one was great fun to watch! You really enjoyed it :)
finally somebody driving this car who I care about there opinion. ( other than Chris harris of course )
Glad I got to film you at this event.
holding a camera above the bathroom stall is nothing to be proud of.
Fantastic car. That N55 sounds incredible.
After I pay off this e92 m3, the M2 will be the newest toy to the German arsenal. You looked like you were having a blast!
I'd keep the M3 tbh
Man, have you tested the M2. I have a hard time deciding between a used M2 in few years or an even cheaper M3-e92. Both seem equally fantastic to me :/
Nicolas B. Again, M3 because S65
Matt, "Ma deuce" has been the common name for the .50 cal browning machine gun for decades.
Car seems fantastic and fits your skill level well. Nice laps, good review.
What a Blast!
glad to hear your like the M2 better than last time, now with everything off
One of the best car journalists out there Matt keep up the good work
Brutal downshifts. Love this car.
autoblip my friemd
Untill you turn of full traction it does it not him
@@john13juric which he said he did
we could definitely tell you were having a lot of fun with this car. Enjoyed watching.

That's hilarious
lol awesome, I did the same as well!
Looks like a really fun car. Right size, technology and power. Unfortunately I'll never be able to own one because the world is ending.
Lol I wonder what you're thinking now
Sean Christopher same, kind of speeches myself
@@dinero3849 Some crazy times
Sean Christopher just bought my m2 today lol
How's the seating position and seat Matt? I heard it's off centre and a bit odd.
I read that too and didn't notice it at all while driving
If no one told you u would never notice tbh.
+LegendInThaMakin do you drive one? Considering ordering one but none available to look at in person
Entrepreneurs in Cars I've driven it. Wasn't mine. I'm in the same boat too, tryna decide whether or not to trade in my 335i for the m2 or m4.

Once you drive it and really push it, you won't care. Hell of a fun car for a decent price.
You coming out again next year?
Get down, get down! That auto rev match is real nice.
I had that turned off, I was willing the car to the apex
Thanks for the entertaining one take. One of the funniest so far!
I'm pleased to watch it with a stick shift. Thanks, Matt. Keep it up!
I enjoy one-takes so much when Matt is by himself. He seems to have such a better time than when he is with the owner of the car.
Looks like a blast! I hung plate to plate to a guy with one of these at thunderhill recently. It was drift happy like Mat was experiencing in this vid.
i love these track day reviews
That track looks like it is a blast.
Fatt Farrah your reviews are the realdeal
I have been waiting for you to review this Matt. You're a great car reviewer!
Can really notice your improvements in oversteer control that you recently talked about for the drive. Great video as usual.
I have an M2 on order and I've been waiting months for Matt to test one. We're similarly sized so if he fits, with a helmet no less! I will fit comfortably as well. Damn, this channel went from elite to rinkey-dink in no time
Matt's taking the "Don't text and drive" to a whole-another level
Loving this car! Can't wait to drive one.
Thanks for the review of this beast Matt! I'm next in line for one. It'll be my first //M car.
Seems like you're having a tone of fun here Matt ! Great video as usual.
Well i guess im gonna go test drive 1 of these today now. Thanks matt!!!
Matt drove right past me at Grid Life but I couldn't find him later. Sick drifts Matt!
How is this channel not over 1 mil subs yet?
It looks like at lot of fun and very intuitive to drive... Me want one!
Awesome vid, and with honest sloppy moments too. Thanks.
Real is the way forward. No need to fake perfection. Wait until next week when I full on spin out in a McLaren on track! That's about as real as it gets.
Such a sweet ride!
Sounds like there were a few potential over-rev's on downshifts. One was around the 4:00 mark.
There is more at the 745 mark
O god. That wasnt good lol
I love how people just guess this stuff without being able to see the tach. No, I did not over rev the car.
You snooze you lose. But seriously great video as always keep them coming :-)
Oh Shit. I wish I'd know they were coming to Atlanta sooner.
Damn dude. You sure can drive. Love it!
DADDY RIKEY!! Thanks Matt, that made the video..hahaha

Great driving Matt!
Very nice downshifts.
I saw dat Turbo 3rd gen Maxima chillin' over there on the intro shot :D
Awesome review as usual. Thanks for the great videos and all the work you do!
Really good drive-review-session vid, Matt :-)
Great little car! Try double apexing that awkward right?
Fun track, and my next car :) Done a couple thousand laps there.....
What's your take on these newer BMW interiors? Does the overall fit and finish and quality still seem to be as good as they used to be? I just took a 435i for a spin and maybe it's just me, but they don't feel as nice as the older models.
Its because BMW do boring uninspiring interiors for the most part
Goooooood Morning to you Matt!
Having a hard time on this vs the Shelby GT350. Only because the M2 would make the better DD, but that 5.2 in the 350 is so damn special.
Honestly imo each car is for a specific person, if you want a bad ass american car that also can outdrive german and italian cars id go mustang, but if your more looking for something classy with more elegance id go for the m2. I reckon the mustang will hold value better in the long run.. And out of warranty maintenance will be less. If that makes a difference to you....
big engine, little dick

Hey Matt would your pick be the stick or the DCT for the M2? this car strikes me as one to have with the manual
Stick
+TheSmokingTire but does the lack of ability to heel and toe spoil the car with the traction on while driving on the road?
+DEM BLAAZE it has auto rev matching in Comfort and Sport mode. It turns off for Sport plus. And you can and should learn how to heel toe, it just takes practice like anything else
+TheSmokingTire thats what im saying how does it feel like to not be able to heel and toe. To u and i its natural but all of a sudden having to drive like ppl who cant heel and toe doesnt it feel kinda wierd?
+TheSmokingTire can u also use tcs and stm when its on sports plus?
it does NOT weight 200 lbs less than the M4, unless you are driving a EU car with manual seats, the weight savings is only about 25lbs
It's horrible how heavy m2 is :(
I would choose the manual version, no sunroof, lightweight aftermarket R18 wheels, ditch all the seats, and hardmount one fixed back bucket seat just for the driver.
Its still faster though 🤣
that sounds really good from the inside, do they play sounds through the speaker on this car?
No, not on the M2
Yes they do unfortunately
Pete is correct this has been demonstrated by others and cannot be turned off without fuse pulling.
Such good reviews (although i don't always agree), no one else is doing anything similar.
Love the M2 but needs a few more unique bits like a carbon roof to justify its price.
Think when i change over the next few months i will go for the M4, but this thing holds its own.
Nice one Matt!
can you please do a G37/q60 . theirs so much of them out their that you can definitely find modded or what not.
great review
Great video!
Did you have a beer in your hand when doing the walk around at the beginning Matt? ;-)
Get Matt, M2 or GT350?
or V8 Camaro or base cayman or focus RS
really? for the price the gt350 is way better honestly. I bet the m2 would be good if your into tuning and that kind of scene. gt sounds and look killer and the m2 is generic
it's a fair question. Looks and sound are subjective.
GT350 for with teh bruhs, M2 for with the gal.... unless she's got hair on her chest or drives better than i do ;-)
M2 is not generic. I own one. I get thumbs up and people stop to talk to me everywhere. No one knows what it is, and it looks special. Follow me @stealth_M2
daddy rikey 😂

The drive modes actually do adjust the suspension.
Nope. The springs, shocks, and sway bars are non-adjustable. The drive modes change the amount of power assist and feedback from the steering, the lockup maps for the rear diff, and the amount of help the stability control will provide.
You should go to Gatebil in Norway, completly nuts event with an amazing track! And nobody yells at you for drifting!
You should really invest in a drone automatic chase cam, for aerial shots without needing a chopper. I just prefer to see the actual car, and that would be a simple solution, without having to have multiple cameras up all over the track.
I don't think there are fast enough drones for that yet
An automated chase drone that can keep up with a sports car on a race track? Keep dreaming.
Who is posting the footage of your chasing Ryan with the M2? Really want to see you get up and close to his door with it!
Next week! It's a fun video
GLORIOUS!!!
Did you drive one of those CRAZY fast S2000's there?
Awesome one take! Any details on the '16 Camaro SS ?
I have the press car next week
sorry mat - the difference between the m4 and m2 is according to the german bmw website 20kg. where did you get the 200 lbs. from?
Like from one of the first reviews i saw of the car. Germany spec and US spec could be different though.
its about 92lbs or 42kg lighter then the m4
how is it so little I thought it would be more
+lonewolf5460 It's the same chassis as the M4
+TheRecon4 no its not, but they share a lot of the components like most of the drivetrain for example
saw this blue M2 on road yesterday, head turner. Looks thick & short like this M.F.
how does the M2 feel in comparison to the Focus RS?
+Xplosion51 huh! got eem'!!!!
in for comparison
I've driven both and the RS tends to under steer where and the BMW over steers.
+Anwar Ali unless i am very much mistaken the rs is a front driven car. end of story.
+JoelLinn93 You are very much mistaken. AWD.
How do you like this compared with the 228i m-sport you drove about a year ago at Willow?
Brilliant review, Matt. Hope you can do your One Take Reviews more often on the track than in the Canyon.
I take track time any time it's available. I prefer it as well, even though the videos never do as well as the street drives.
+TheSmokingTire only if they named it the MDuece *insert ✌🏼️emoji*
Has this man ever driven such a fast car one that pushes you in your seat into the bolstering while you stand at the edge of life 24/7 saving your self from death some how...yes guys it's that car... The prius...
what
+SenszR who?!?!
+💀Mr. Ixolite💀 no it sounds worse
lmao
Matt, how would you compare the Mduece steering and chassis feel to the F80/82 M's? I test drove an F80 M3 the other week (first time) and it did not have the direct/precision steering and chassis feel that I am used to from previous gen' M cars. Nice review!
I prefer the size and agility of the M2
Thanks, me as well. I actually had an opportunity to test drive an M2 yesterday (used one got traded in already :o ). Feels much different (better, imo) that the f80 M3 for sure. Nimble and responsive.
Hey Matt, do track videos perform worse than canyon videos view wise?
Yes they do
+TheSmokingTire Pity it's nice to see someone who can drive really ragging on cars.
Having a good time out there I see! How close does a 135i with a tune and a few upgrades get to the level of the M2? 80% of the way or are they in totally different leagues?
Did you have everything in Sport Plus mode, traction control off?
Would you buy a 2017 M2 or 2017/2018 Mustang GT Preimum Performance Pack for daily duty and some track days?
Matt from a fun factor stand point just for the sake of comparison...Focus RS or BMW M2? Go!
Luv this guy, he seems so genuine and real.
This is like the first time seeing you thrashing a car to its limits with the aggressive shifts, using every bit of rpm from the engine and working the chassis hard. Oh wait... You did the same thing in the CTS-V with the huge slides lol. I geuss this is the second video I seen you driving super hard.
Have you gotten a chance to drive the dct version?
Would have been nice if you tested it in the canyons Matt.
Not as nice as the track!
