This is actually a great idea for a series! Essentially having "Skill Experts" show off what they have learned from leveling up their skills over the years. Great Video to watch Cl3ver!
Not just that but the way in which he talks up all these different experts helps to build excitement for those of us that are working towards teaching others our craft so that we can keep these amazing trades alive.
Speaking as a blacksmith and bladesmith I personally love everything about this video! Great support for a craftsperson, and an amazing skill. I'm supposed to be working with a university in Vermont teaching blacksmithing, bladesmithing, knife making, and leather work and would love to be able to help contribute to your own skillset to share with others.

If you (or anyone else) wants to do a "custom" knife but don't have access to a forge, you can buy pre made knife blanks and add handles and whatever other features you want. Most places that sell the blade blanks also sell handle and pin materials and even some tools. Great video and knife, hope this helps helps somebody out!
I've done this, and it was surprisingly cheap! I got MoraKniv blanks from Rockler (they're also on Amazon), and the blanks cost me less than $15. Highly recommend as a starting point for anyone interested in trying on a budget.
@@PKDoesStuff I was also surprised at how inexpensive (some people get the wrong idea when they hear "cheap") a lot of the blanks were the first time I looked. So far I've done 5 or 6 different knives from a few different manufacturers, most less than 20 dollars each, and they're all good quality.
FireBrand Productions does excellent work. Grey made me a custom sword that perfectly fits my hand, and I have used it many times to kill aliens that have tried to abduct my cows for probing.
Awesome video, Grey is one of my best friends and my mentor in cooking and bladecraft, we're currently making an arming sword and he helped me make an incredible dagger for my wife's birthday! Super versatile and Firebrand is only just getting started, definitely worth looking into a class with him!
Fun fact, a great way to mark the center for your edge, use a drill bit the same thickness as your steel. Lay the blank and bit on your table and use the tip of your drill bit to scribe a center line on the edge of your steel. Cheap and works every time.
Learned metalworker here. I start hyperventilating from second hand excitement right now. The resulting blade looks awesome and quite practical in size. Wish I had someone like Grey in my area, he seems to be an awesome guy. Big, strong and fluffy dragon hug for all of you.
Fun fact! This kind of knife and swordmaking, called Stock Removal, was a technique as far back as medieval times alongside traditional forging! Excellent stuff here Clev3r, I would love to see more of this!
4:08 "I can't express... how nice it is..." Another lost opportunity for a great pun. It's, "knife" to work with someone who knows what they're doing. Having a sharp instructor allows one to hone their skill quickly. You can't get on edge about polishing simple skills when you can reflect on razor precision of a self-made knife. You get the idea. Again, thanks for another great vid! I always look forward to your projects and I love your presentation style! It manages to get around the edges of my ADHD and engage my myriad interests. Thanks for being my kind of nerd.
If you’re interested in learning more crafts, you can take historical craft classes at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge MA. I took a 4 night blacksmithing class there last summer, made myself a coat hook, a gate latch, a fire poker, and a long roasting fork
Love the Vid great to see you supporting small shopps but quick question if you go to 14:33 the blade is a bit thin at the edge did he clean that up for you ?. I hope that has been done as the edge may roll and the blade will need a serious sharpen. I'm not trying to nit pick on this one I have had a blade do this after being sharpened on a belt sander as well.
Great job clever I love making knives and I just switched from stock removal to forging and I appreciate all your videos especially the leather working it really helps
I took a clay/pottery class as a teenager, and it was awesome. I'd love to do something with metal, especially something like stain glass work in the future.
The best way to support the channel for free is to pass out after work with autoplay on and inadvertently watch 12 hours of skilltree on repeat over and over again... At least that's what I tell myself when I wake up in the morning ;^;
The knife looks similar to the "Nessmuk" style of woods knife. At 100+ years since he died, and still in good standing with woodsman and campers alike, it is a good knife design. Ps. If "Sears" or "George Washington Sears" shows up in the search then you have the right spelling.
I’ve always wanted to get into blacksmithing! I still have a knife handle I need to finish Edit: I started the video and I’m bummed that there isn’t any smithing, but it’s still cool!
let's see, you have made a sword (albeit a foam sword.) a sword scabbard, a fixed blade knife, and knife sheath. I would like to see you level up to a friction folder knife. Preferably with a crown stag handle and carbon steel blade. (Maybe from some scrap steel you "Saw"?)
Now all you have to do is make a leather sheath. And to protect the blade from rust use olive oil. Most other oils does a better job but is toxic. Because it looks like a good camp knife.
You could also use Ballistol, but probably more for cleaning than for an protective coat. Olive oil might get rancid over time, especially in the leather sheath
Sooo, do you know who NorseForged is, the dude is a huge fantasy buff as well and I think it be neat if you leveled up Black smithing with his travel forge... once he gets it running, he has a youtube but I mostly found him on tiktok
NOOOO.... why did you follow a knife template....... You could have done a 100 % unique and personal knife... instead of a copy. You seem to be artistic, so drawing should not be a problem.
Thanks a million for coming down and learning. I had a blast teaching and look forward to our next blade making adventure!!!

This is why teachers are our favorite people, even out of the classroom
I'm with Alec Steele; Dykem steel blue is one of my favourite shades of blue.
I really enjoyed this. The amount of style one can put into a knife like that is massive and totally worth it.
Gareth gets a new field knife. Now to mount it on the "staff of the wanderer" and place it next to your pipe on your bracers.
Stay skillful my friend.

" Theres a POINT in every project.." Youre a stronger man than I for resisting the pun, sirrah....
You can always make a sand blaster from a shop vac and pvc pipes a soda bottle and play sand. They did that on tkor and it etched glass very well
Perhaps you can make a holder for that knife next, with a loop to attach it to your belts?
That was great, thanks
that was awesome. hopefully, I can find someone like that here in Texas.
Its amazing how popular those Aussie designed grinders are I hope you had a blast
Oh! Fun project today! I hit the like button before you were even close to halfway through.
Looks bloody nice bro...what a lucky lad!!
that knife and a ferro rod could rebuild civilization.
Another great video. The enthusiasm is infectious.
It reminds me very much of the knife that geralt uses in Witcher 3, and because of that I like this awesome knife-shape even more :o
That’s awesome! Didn’t realize Skill Tree was only a stone’s throw away from the home of The SmartAssPodCast! 🤘🏻🔥⚔️

great video!! Knife making is a rabbit hole that you can really fall down. I have been forging for along time. I think you should do a few more :)
Awesome job. Now next episode a sheath
Clicked faster than flash 😀
That's a great looking knife. I am tempted to take a knife making vacation.
If you ever find yourself in the Rhode Island area, I'd be happy to teach you.
GREAT JOB!
and for the next video.... a sheath for the knife!!!!
So we obviously need a leatherworking episode where you make a sheath
And now you can make video on making a sheath for it!
Isn’t the point of the Forbidden Tea rust prevention (like gun bluing)?
You should add knife sharpening to your list of skills. I would love to see how you do that in a video.
You should do a metal engraving video and engrave your skill tree emblem on the knife

Looks like you need to make a leather holster for that knife
Now all you need is a belt sheets for your costume
Hey kit awesome knife, so cool.we found someone to teach you and show you the steps
Now you need to make a leather sheath to keep that blade secured.
I'm a simple man I see Blacksmithing I click
Id like to see you do a( paracord belt. ) i think that would be interesting.
Man, I want that sweater

How dare you not show how that knife actually cuts stuff!? 🤣

Now to build a sword!
in time, a few more more lessons on some smaller things first

Your next project could be a leather sheath for your new knife .
Lovely knife. Will you be using it to help you level up your cooking skill?
Do you know what thickness of steel you started with?
.125
Good sir, grinding a shape out of store-bought bar stock, does not constitute "forging a knife".
a crafting of the blade yes, but forginging. for that you need heat and hammer. more please
Agreed! Madi put the title in late lastnight and we didn't catch that till you JUST pointed it out! Thank you!

now he needs to make a shieth for the knife
Not to change the subject from the video but what is the best way to “request” a video idea?
I don't like sand. It's coarse and it gets everywhere.
Now make it a leather Sheath.
You should take a pottery class. :)
