Subscribed, your energy is so awesome lmao! I'm begging for Kubo and the Two Strings by the same company as this film, it's on Netflix and deserves way more recognition!
You completely missed the point with the Dad... Firstly as Norman's mum said, the father is scared FOR his son, not of him. Yes he is a dip for being stubborn and so on... but need to remember how would YOU be? Your Child sees dead people and is chastised and ridiculed and harassed for it. Let's say Norman is nuts, or doing it for attention and you lean into it, would that still be good for him? Look overall it's easy coz WE know Norman is telling the truth, but in RL, would you believe him? Also The dad DID care, when Norman went to face the witch the dad said why does that have to be you, it's not coz he doesn't believe him, HE DOES at that point, he is worried for his son, he would prefer someone else to risk their life to stop whatever this insanity is going on around him. The dad cared but he didn't know how to care, he worried for his son and was terrible at conveying it, did it make him a dip at times, sure, but overall he was trying to help his son. I find the same thing happens with the dad from Chicken Little, people don't try to see the world from the parent point of view, I'm not saying they are failing but what is the alternative? WE know as the Audience Chicken Little and Paranorman are seeing crazy hard to understand stuff, but to everyone else it's weird and for a parent it's hard to watch. Ther is no guide book to raising kids, no instructional manual even the best parents fk up... Anyway sorry for rant just overall I feel in too many movies people get way too upset at the parents, they only have PART of the picture, not all of it like we do... Anyway have a good one, also at the beginning the father points out that the Uncle, the one who dies and passes on reading the book, is the mum's brother, so yeah it's Norman's mothers side that has a relative each generation that can see and interact with dead people.
Tim Burton had nothing to do with Paranorman... The only tentative link would be that Laika made the movie and Laika made Nightmare Before Christmas which was "presented" by Tim Burton... Tim Burton was forced by the studio to be on Nightmare Before Christmas, they wouldn't greenlight the movie despite his endorsement, so he had to step in as producer and co writer, though he has stated in countless interviews he had little input into Nightmare Before Christmas and it was due to studio BS. In a fun twist one of the executives related to Nightmare actually thought the idea was a dud and so part of his forcing Tim onto the project was his spite of Burton, wanting Burton to be attackhed to a failed project and lowering his star, which in the 90's Tim Burton was at the height of his fame. When the movie succeeded he tried to claim credit but Burton pointed out it was HIS name on the movie (Tim Burton Presents Nightmare Before Christmas is on the Marketing and Posters) and the executive had to back off. Hollywood studios are filled with dodgy aholes. Anyway Henry Sellick was the director and it was mostly his idea for Nightmare Before Christmas... Tim Burton is also credited to Coraline, but again it was just Laika and since Coraline was ALSO Henry Sellick it has a very similar style to Nightmare. Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie are the Stop motion Movies Tim Burton actually directed... The Former is Great, the Later... I didn't like though it has a cult following, it wasn't a terrible movie, but well... Frankenweenie was Tim Burton's childhood short film he wanted to make into a full movie and it really wasn't an idea you could stretch that far, if it was a short or even a 40-50 minute movie it would have been fine, but it just starts to drag. Corpse Bride is a good movie to just put on in the background, though I often end up stopping to watch it proper. Anyway sorry for long rant, overall I love Paranorman the final sequence against Agatha is INSANELY well animated, blending Claymation with CGI to make the scene otherworldly while still grounded.
