For all those asking questions about ISO and Shutter speed used in this vlog read below… So I am fully aware of how to balance ISO, Shutter Speed and aperture as I always shoot in manual. As you can see by all of my images used in the vlog, everything came out clear and sharp, hence again, I know how to use my camera and settings. The reasons I used a higher ISO and Shutter Speed are as follows: 1. puffins are VERY fast, flying up to 55mph, when I used a lower shutter speed the subjects were blurred and when I put it higher they were not - go figure 2. I have some shots of stationary birds with the same settings, this is because again I shoot in manual, I had limited time on the island and I was shooting multiple subjects at ones. There were birds everywhere and everything was happening all at once so I would go from birds in flight to stationary thus just kept my settings the same as this suited me in that moment in time. Also, some of these stationary birds were sat on Bass Rock whilst I was on a boat in choppy water, hence the shutter speed needed to be higher. 3. A lesser point but still relevant, as discussed in the vlog I was having some focusing issues due to the UV filter attached and this threw me off a bit so I was changing settings to see if this was due to a slower shutter speed - the lens is new to me so I am still adjusting to it. 4. Overall, the pictures came out sharp, clear and not blurred. As they say, the proof is in the pudding - the settings were fine for me in that situation, it does not mean I will do this all the time. It just means in that situation that is what I needed to do and my images did not suffer. Hope this helps. Victoria ✌🏻
Are you shooting the 150-600 handheld or with tripod/monopod? Just wondering as I’ve been having a hard time trying to get crisp shots like yours when hand holding my xt4 w/ the Fuji 100-400 . They all have a bit of what looks like motion blur :(
From my experience, there is a big difference whether there is light or not when using high ISO. With enough light, like in your video, you can crank the ISO to get shorter Shutterspeeds. However, on a moody day, images with the XT-5 get blurry with ISO higher than 650. This is the reason I was looking for videos of bird photography with the XT-5.
Great opportunity and great photography. Love the 600 mm outcome. I have the same lens in 400 and love it, even used it in the portraits at times due to quality, but of course, amazing in wildlife and pet photography. One of those days I will make the plunge and go on adventure to photograph puffins in the wild, but until then, enjoyed and enjoying your work and this video. Thank you for sharing. Great trip and great photos.
Thank you very much! I do appreciate it :) and I still own the 100-400, it is a fantastic lens, I took it on safari and it did amazing! I also took it to the Farne island last year to do puffin photography too and it did great - see my old vlog about it. I hope you do manage to go, you will not regret it. There are a few places you can go to see them and they will most certainly bring a smile to your face. Thank you for watching and for your kind words ☺️✌🏻🌊
Thank you so much for this ☺️ i’m pretty chuffed with how the pictures came out with the conditions and time limit I had. And to get a puffin flying! That make me happy ☺️✌🏻
Thank you for watching! They will hopefully be coming out soon! I have a review for the XH2S already but will be doing a comparison video between the XT5 and XH2S. Thanks again 🙃
Thank you ☺️ i hope you get to as well and i’m sure you will do one day soon! Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and have a lovely day ☺️☺️🌊🌈
Aw this is really lovely, thank you! I wish I had more time to use it and get more shots, it's a fantastic little camera! Fuji is so good for landscape work too 🙃
Amazing photos! Been having trouble lately getting to grips with my XT3 and the 150-600mm lens and by the looks of it I need to vastly increase my shutter speed and ISO. I've learned quite a bit from this video so thanks!
Thank you so much! Ah yes i imagine it would be difficult on the XT3! But yes increasing the shutter speed will help, especially when being handheld (as the XT3 will lack the stabilisation). But yes it can be a tricky lens but it is definitely worth practicing more with it as it’s fantastic!
All wonderful. But I really liked your b-roll of the water droplets on the boat window and your return to the dock. It helps pull it all together. Nice video work.
This means a lot! The thing I actually love the most is the b-roll and building that story. Something about capturing all the details really makes me heart sing. So it is lovely to read you felt it pulled it all together. Thank you again ☺️🌊✌🏻
Stunning shots! Lovely video. What a puffin fest! We were out of North Berwick to Craigleith and Bass Rock last week. We didn’t land so it was challenging photographing them in flight. I didn’t realise they did trips out on Dunbar so I’ll have to check that out.
Thank you I really appreciate that and glad you enjoyed it! Aw I bet that was fantastic, I still want to go on the separate tour to Bass Rock it is a fascinating place! But yes very challenging when it is all photos from a boat - especially in choppy water! I went with a company called BlueWild, it is a bit pricier than the rest but you are on a boat with only 8 people and it feel a bit more personal - and saved me the drive to North Berwick or Anstruthers to go from there 🙃
There are so many cool mages in your video! That changes a lot from other RUclipsrs who have not much to show, even nothing sometimes. I am very impressed with Fuji which has never been the first choice for many, when its about wildlife... Good colors, textures, and sharpness. Cheers!
Thank you so much for this! That is a really interesting point you make, when I go out I just like to shoot pictures of all the things that make me smile - I don’t necessarily aim for ‘the’ shot, I just shoot from the heart so maybe that’s what makes a difference ☺️ and yes, Fujifilm equipment is brilliant. I have been shooting with it for years and I absolutely love it! They have great quality in their gear. Thanks again 🙂✌🏻🌊
Hey, great video and I look forward to see your review of the XF 150-600mm on the X-H2S for wildlife. I‘ve got that gear, too. I’m really interested in your opinion about it because I’m struggling over and over again if a full frame camera would be a better choice for wildlife. But when I watch you videos I’m convinced again to stay with this equipment. Once again, I love your videos.
Thank you so much! It hopefully shouldn’t be too long now until the review comes out, it just takes time to edit the photos so I do the vlogs first. But I can say it is a fantastic set up and if you have that already well I think you will be pretty pleased! I guess it all depends what you want or feel is better when getting a full frame camera? - obviously the full framed part is the biggest selling point. I really enjoy using the Fujifilm cameras and lenses, they really just match my personality. Yes if you want to go crazy you can get the GF series but it is very expensive and I can’t afford that, so I think what you get for your money, item, quality, price and results then XH2S and 150-600mm are brilliant and I have thoroughly enjoyed using it 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoria Your videos are superb, thanks. I have the combination X-T5 und Nikon Z6II because I wanted to use the stellar Z glass for landscape and wildlife. But now I see that you can achieve everything with Fujifilm. It's unbeatable for street and people photography with the right lenses (18mm 1.4, 33mm 1.4, 56mm 1.2 WR) and has the best vibes and style. On the other hand, the Z glass is an unbeatable full frame value. I want to keep using both, though it does cost more. The medium Format GF is just a step too far for amateurs like me.
Thank you so much! They were just the best to watch, I would love to live on that island. Aww amazing, lovely set up and Kestrels are beautiful birds ☺️
Great video and awesome images! I've shot lots of puffins in flight and I have a hunch that the distortion issue you described is related to heat defraction off the grass. Its a very common issue in wildlife photography and crops up with surprising frequency. Especially noticeable at greater distances, such as when shooting with a telephoto lens. Only real solution I can offer is to shoot earlier or later in the day when the air is cooler. Kepp on keeping on Victoria! Great narration! 🎉
Ooo wow all the way from Utah! That is awesome! Thank you for your really kind words and it is just so nice to see people from all over the world tuning in. Thank you ☺️
Absolutely stunning photography. I thoroughly enjoyed the video, looks like you had so much fun. Your passion and enthusiasm for nature and photography really shines through.
Thank you so much for this, it’s really kind of you and brought a smile to my face as that is the most important part for me in my vlogs - just sharing the passion and enthusiasm for nature. So if you could see that, then my work here is done, i’m a happy lady. Thank you again 🙃
I’m reading this with a massive smile on my face, I always appreciate what you day Trent - means a lot coming from you. Thank you and that is definitely my aim, inspire anyone to get out and shoot from the heart. Go and create more of your beautiful art and enjoy yourself ☺️
Love your corgi. Don't think I've seen a fluffy mostly white one. I have two tri-colors, Sophie Tucker and Bandit Corgibutt. The puffin pictures are outstanding and so were the other birds too.
Aww thank you so much! Your corgis sound absolutely lovely, and I love their names! So Erik is a bit more white as he is a corgi crossed with a west-highland terrier - so a bit more white and some more features from the westie side but the legs and ears of the corgi ☺️
Hi Victoria! Beautiful video, as well as your pictures. I love puffins and I hope to go next year in Scotland. In your opinion, what's the best period for puffins on Isle of May?
Thank you so much! Well I think if you can wait a little later it is better maybe later in June (like the start of June onwards) because the chicks will start to hatch and you will see more puffins on the ground. If you can get to the Farne Islands too it is great (if they let you go on the island next year) because the puffins are really close. I would like to go back to the Isle of May but a bit later in the year. Hope this helps ☺️
@@wildandfreevictoria Thanks Victoria. I think will be easier to go to the Isle of May, but who knows, even Farne Island could be a great option. Have a nice day
Superb video and images! Easily some of the best wild life images I've seen from the Fujifilm 150-600! Just switched to Fuji and considering this lens or the Tamron 150-500 at almost half the price but I think you might have convinced me to save up for this one. Thanks for posting and sharing 🙂
Wonderful video footage as usual. Beautiful images especially the Puffins. I was surprised to see the Puffins just hanging around with beaks fulls of sand eels, I assumed that the eels would be eaten or fed to young straight away?
Thank you for watching and your kind words! They are such sweet and funny birds to watch. Yes I know I thought the same, I think they collect a lot and then take them back to their young as they don’t regurgitate them but feed them as they are. Maybe it takes a lot off effort to collect them so they collect and loads to bring back. Who knows but it is an interesting point! 🙂🌊
Aw thank you! This is very kind! Well keep practicing and keep enjoying it and I have no doubt you’ll be using the gear you want in no time. But the main thing is to have fun ☺️✌🏻
Nice pictures of the Beautiful birds. I have got the xt5 and I wonder if the 150-600 is ok. I have used Sony A7IIIr and 200-600 and thatś quite ok. But I love Fujifilm and wonder if I should change to Fujifilm.
Thank you very much ☺️ The 150-600mm is a brilliant lens, I love it! I’ve never used a Sony lens or camera body so I cannot say but I think the best thing is to go with what suits you best - budget and style of photography. I think Fujifilm is great as you get super quality for money and that’s what I went for to begin with (with the X-T3) and it’s not failed, I really do lovely Fujifilm stuff I think it is brilliant. I hope this helps 🙃
Eric is great May I ask what bread of dog he is please? My Bailey is roughly the same size, however he’s a Patterdale. I had the pleasure of filming Puffins at Inner Farne last year and loved every second. Sadly it was around Bird Flu time so we could only be on the island an hour at a time. Cheers. 😀😀
Aw thank you! He is a wonderful dog! And he is a Corgi crossed with a West-Highland Terrier (double stubbornness hehe). Bailey sounds lovely, Patterdales are such lovely dogs! Well how about that I was on the Farne Islands last year too but it was before any announcements of bird flu. Did you enjoy your time? And you’ll be happy to know that my next vlog is about a boat trip around the Farne Islands (no landings this time as it was off limits due to bird flu) and Erik was on the boat with me 🙃🌊✌🏻🦭
@@wildandfreevictoria Good morning. Ahhh that’s why I could not guess Eric’s type. 😀 Yep, last year we got lucky with being allowed to land on Inner Farne. The island was closed off a few dats later. At the time they only allowed one hour on the island which meant I was running around like a loonie trying to film as much as I could. I got attacked by an Arctic Tern, and my camera mic got attacked by the Terns as well. And a Puffin scuttled over Elaine’s foot. Puffins were everywhere and were within arm’s reach. 😀 I made a little episode, and I’d be honoured if you took a little look.
Always a pleasure joining you on one of your amazing explores. You are Living The Dream. Very jealous 😄🙂 Cool video work and photographs. Just wonderful 😎📷 I noted some of the shutter speeds up to 1/12 thousand using the iso to 4000. Such clean sharp images. I've never shot that high before so I'll have to give it a go next time I'm out with my 100-400. Take care. See you soon.... 👋👋👋
Thank you very much for watching and leaving a kind comment. Glad you enjoyed it! Ah the dream can be tiring at times! But more adventures on the way 🙃 Yes someone else ask about this so read the comments for my reason behind it but as the puffins were so fast I needed a high shutter speed (although at times I was switching between stationary subjects and flying subjects so I just let the settings for the fast objects as I shoot in manual). I don’t normally shoot in 4000ISO with my other lens (like my primes) but for a telephoto I have found this to be quite common as sometimes you need that extra budge - especially if the shutter speed is so high. Well if you don’t need to put the ISO higher than leave it lower, but if you need it higher than don’t be afraid to use it 🙃✌🏻
@@wildandfreevictoria iso is such a mystery as on occasion ive had stunning clean results at 12800 iso and other times I've had complete rubbish at 1600 iso. I'm thinking that when there is good light anyway, as with your puffin shots, then boosting iso doesn't degrade the image, but when light is lacking it can degrade the image. Its all part of the fun at the end of the day. Looking forward to the 🙃 adventures forthcoming. 😀
I completely agree with you and it is an interesting point - because I have noticed this too. Maybe it is to do with general light in the first place. I am guessing in shadowed areas it’s harder for a camera/lens to differentiate with what an object is or to get refinement but in a general well lit situation it can. I dunno, but I do agree with everything you have said. It is a mystery! 🙃
Wow, this lens just doesn't disappoint. And neither do you. 😉These shots were breathtaking and I'm actually surprised by the details and colours that are being rendered. Truly amazing work and what great a fit this lens has proven to be for you. And those puffins are just adorable, also right before they land. 😆I especially loved the shots at 7:47 and 7:48!
Hehe thank you ☺️ I really appreciate your kind words about my shots! Yes the tones and colours are always wonderful on Fujifilm stuff, wait until you see the next vlog! More sea life on the way! I agree, that lens definitely felt at home, i loved using it. Hehehe yeah they seem so elegant yet so clumsy in flight and I think that’s my favourite shot as well ☺️✌🏻🌊
Excellent video. If there was a filter issue, did you then remove it? I ask, because the images as presented here are stunning. I have the XT5 and the 100-400, but the 150-600 is becoming more appealing.
Thank you! What I found was the same setting at some angles was fine but at others there was distortion, as I was borrowing the lens I kept the filter on (didn’t want to damage it). But I did find it better once I was at other angles and I think too much light caused a bit of a problem with the filter I think. I own the 100-400mm (which I adore) but after using the 150-600.. I really want to buy this lens! I think it is beautiful to use for both photography and filming. I will have a review coming out soon so keep an eye out 🙃
Best pictures from the 150-600mm that I have seen so far. Well done! But good light probably help, as you still need to go to iso 4000 for 1/5000 shutter.
I really appreciate this, check out my other vlogs with owl and badger photos. I will also have another vlog coming up with more sea life photography. Yeah it was a bit of a funny day and I think my filter was causing some issues but overall the shots were ok, the lens does need a lot of light into it but regardless of the ISO at 4000 you still get good quality images 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoria Thanks! I also look forward to your X-H2s vs X-T5 comparison, esp around image quality. I heard people like the images coming out of the X-H2 (same sensor as X-T5) more.
You are welcome, your kind words do mean a lot. I’ll do my best to get it out asap, I have a specific review of the 150-600mm coming out too. And I haven’t tried the X-H2 but I have heard it is fantastic for photography 🙃
Really super Vlog, definitely a place on my list now. How are you finding the xt5 compared to xh2s, I thought the xh2s was the camera to have for wildlife, with its new focusing.
Thank you very much! And definitely do visit 🙂 Well I own the xh2s but was testing the xt5 for a period of time so that I can review it - coming up and a comparison between the xh2s and xt5. Personally for me as I also do a lot of filming, not just wildlife, I really work well with the xh2s but the xt5 is still a fabulous camera 🙃

@@wildandfreevictoria thank you 💖 we have a house in Kelso at the Borders and it's so hard to choose one of them, for now we will keep both! A blessed and beautiful problem to have!
I’m not using Fujifilm, but very interesting video. I am not using filter’s anymore, only polarised filters if required. I’m just wondering why you where using such high ISO’s?.
Thanks, it is good equipment, I really like Fujifilm equipment. And yes, I kept it on mainly to protect the lens on a rough journey. And 4000 isn’t that high for a telephoto and I used that because the shutter speed was high to capture the puffins flying - read other comments for more details on this ✌🏻
Beautiful cinematography and great choose in music. Watching this before heading out to work, but this video is inspiring me to explore more and expand my own photography. Thank you for this video.
This comment really made me smile, it’s what I hope my videos achieve - just to inspire anyone. Definitely get out and explore with your camera, shoot from the heart and what moves you. You can’t go wrong with ☺️🌈
What a fun time you had. And yes, Thank you for taking us along on this journey. The puffins are amazing, and Wow…. Lots of Gannets!! Love the sea birds (especially the Puffins!!!❤❤) Looking forward to your next adventure. Cheers from Canada!!📷😁👍🏻
Thank you for watching and lovely to see my subscribers are all the way in Canada - this is amazing! I did have an incredible time, I love puffins! And i’m happy to say.. there is actually more puffins and sea life on the way so keep an eye out! And thank you again ☺️✌🏻🌈🌊🦭
Lovely film Victoria. The islands look awesome and so are your pictures/ videos.I love the inflight pics, do you set the camera on auto focus of manual for those? I have tried taking inflight photos and they came out slightly out of focus. Anyway well done and looking forward to your next adventure.
Thank you very much! Yes it’s a beautiful spot, a little haven! It is amazing as well there are staff from NatureScot who also live on the island - what an amazing job that must be! So for the inflight shots I used continuous auto-focus with a mixture of the tracking for my focus point and when I was using that I used the bird tracking (animal detection). I also adjusted my auto focus to be a bit faster (you can do this in the custom AF settings). It did work most of the time, even the puffins were a bit of a challenge for the AF but it did do great! I also shot in burst mode too which also helped a lot 🙃🌊✌🏻
Yes they came out super well! For some I used the Denoise feature on Lightroom but sometimes this can smooth out subjects feathers too much. I was pretty happy with the details captures at ISO4000 though, both cameras and then lens did super well 🙃
I am advancing my next step to place my order for a XH2s and the 150-600mm lens, please post your comparison video between the XT5 and XH2S asap. I really would like to watch your comments before walking into the camera shop.
This is great to read! I will do my best to get the reviews out soon, if you can wait a week or two then it will be ready 🙃 - also this is very lovely that you want to watch the comparison before you go out and buy 🙃
Thank you for the video. I am very enjoyed and nice songs in the video. But I was smile when you show your camera and the lens. How big the lens and how very small the camera? :) I am working with big and heavy lenses. But my cameras are bigger. I like nature photography too. Thank you again, "your island is so beautiful". :)
Thank you very much for watching and your kind words! I’m glad you like the music, I take a long time picking the right songs. Hehe yes because it is a mirrorless camera the bodies tend to be very small, SLR and DSLRs tend to be a bit bigger. Thank you again and more on the way 🙂
Great video Victoria. You create a fantastic atmosphere with the editing and music selection. Question: why did you select such a high ISO (4000) for many of the still shots? I realize you want a relatively high shutter speed but it looks like the speeds were well above what was needed to freeze action and avoid shake (plus the XT5 has 5 axis stabalization). I haven't used the 150-600 so maybe it is something particular to the lens that you need really, really fast shutter speeds? Otherwise I wonder if lowering the ISO is possible. I ask as I don't do much (any) long lens wildlife shots but I might in the future, so interested in your experience.
Thank you for watching and much appreciated! And to answer your question, it was to compensate for the shutter speed, puffins fly at around 55mph so pretty fast and I tested the lower shutter speed but it was not fast enough. It wasn’t about my personal shaking but more just the puffins were flying very fast and are very small/nimble. So yeah in this particular scenario I used a very high shutter speed, the ISO of 4000 (although normally high) wasn’t too high for the 150-600, it’s quite normal for the telephoto lenses to put the ISO higher but I don’t like to go over 4000. In some cases I could have adjusted the shutter speed to slower but because I shoot in manual and was too busy getting shots I just left it as it was as I didn’t want to miss a moment - my time was limited on the island so less time to think. I also think a lot of the 4000ISO and high speed shots were with the X-H2S not the X-T5 but I hope this helps and explains it a bit 🙃✌🏻
I should also add, these were not static shots - meaning I was not stood still waiting for the puffin to fly into my frame. I was taking the shot moving with the bird - like clay pigeon shooting. So I was tracking the bird whilst it was flying - hence the speeds were not over what was needed to freeze the puffin in the air. I tested it with slower speeds but it did not word 🙃✌🏻
That’s ok! Yes it is tricky but worth it! Someone else was asking about it too and I explained I shoot in manual and was swapping between moving and still(ish) birds as I had limited time on the island, so I kept some of the settings the same to make it easier 🙂
I think it was May/June time last year but I am about to go again - next week - so keep an eye out for a future blog. And the weather was great but all depends on when you go 🙂
I had the original Canon 100-400 which HATED filters, some lens just don’t play with filters too well. I toured Scotland 4 years ago, Gannets were everywhere, I also got a Hooded Crow, my first, we don’t have them around here. You have a nice Fuji set up, I have an X-Pro1 and an X-T1 both comparable image quality with my R6 👍
Ah well that is interesting, my be a filter thing on long lenses I wonder? Aww that is so good you go to tour and see the gannets too, they are so beautiful. You have a good set up too, the fuji stuff is the best! 🙃
The 150-600mm is super sharp wide open. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it. But have held it. It’s very lightweight for the size. Compared to my tamron 150-500mm. It feels like half the weight. Might have to get one someday.
It really is! I’m very impressed with the quality of images you get from it - i have more on the way to show this 🙃 and I agree, I am only short/small and I didn’t find the lens too heavy or bulky, it actually is quite lightweight considering it’s size. Me too, I was just testing this one out for a review but I’ll probably end up getting it eventually 🙂
Hello from Belgium Victoria 😊 I would like to ask you a question: for wildlife, landscape and "everyday" photography, is it better to choose the X-T5 or the X-H2S ? I have an X-S10 but I want a weather resistant camera with a better autofocus. David.
Hello! Belgium is a beautiful place! So I would say if you are just looking at photography and something that can do mixture of everything the X-T5 is brilliant (I have a review on this if you want to take a look). If you are looking at doing photography with more filming/vlogging then the X-H2S is brilliant for that - both are weather resistant and both have great autofocus! :)
@@wildandfreevictoria I discovered your channel today 😊 I will watch the videos on the X-T5 this afternoon. For birds in flight if the autofocus of the X-T5 is equal to the X-H2S the X-T5 would suit me better because I do very little video
Smushy is a great word to describe it! That’s what I had! To be fair, all of the shots in this vlog were taken with the UV filter attached, it was just a few in a particular moment and angle that I could not use because of the smushyness. I think this was in very bright light and it causes distortion. My other vlogs I actually took the uv filter off as I was in low light so I can’t actually compare it either but in the next vlog I do more sealife photography with the uv filter on later on in the day and it was great. So my theory is in super duper bright day light it isn’t the best - well this UV filter anyway, which is interesting as that’s when you think you should be able to use it!
@@wildandfreevictoria I just tried again now that its not super bright outside but cloudy, its still the same. It seems it affects the optics severely the more you zoom in. And agree the point of using a cpl is to remove some of the harsh highlights from the bright sun xD this is such an interesting find. its an amazing lens anyway
Thank you! Yeah I don’t normally have any problems, I shoot with my standard primes with either a UV and CPL filter which is usually great but this day the UV wasn’t! I think it was a really bright day with heat waved and at certain angles it just wouldn’t focus right but at others it did. So yes, filters definitely can cause a problem! I would if it creates minor reflections in the gap between the filter and lens and that’s causes the distortion.. who knows! 🙃
Hello aye have just subscribed to ur channel. And I have look at ur videos they are very inspiring to me as aye have been doing wildlife and landscape photography now since 2016 It would be amazing honour to do some wildlife photography with you 😊 in glen Coe
Thank you for subscribing and watching my video. It's great you do wildlife and landscape photography too. If you are based in glencoe then you will have some wonderful landscape photography there! keep enjoying it 🙂
It’s a hard one to judge, I own the xh2s but was testing the xt5 and I think it all depends on what wildlife photography you are looking at doing - more fast paced and responsive then I think the xh2s is better suited (or the xh2 which I haven’t tried yet) and anything else the xt5 is still fantastic. The quality is there for both of them, it’s just for as well I like the xh2s for filming 🙃
@wildandfreevictoria Thanks for your reply. They are both excellent cameras, guess I'm going to have to try before I buy.😂 and there's also the Canon R6 all of a similar price.
Thank you! It’s funny, I use filters on my prime lenses all the time and when I was in East-Africa I used one on my 100-400mm and never had a problem. So maybe it just that particular lens or day or conditions 🤷🏻♀️
@@wildandfreevictoria If you’re at effective 900mm on a warm day with an extra piece of glass it will show up for sure 👍🏻 does the 150-600 come with a lens hood?
Well I had mixed shots as all these photos were taken with the filter still attached. So not all bad 🙂 and yes it does come with a lens hood - you can see it in the video ✌🏻
I've watched videos saying that xh2s' object tracking sucks. What does your experience say about this? Did the software updates work? I'm thinking of buying the camera. but this is bothering me
I personally think it is great, I used my XH2s all the time now for vlogging and it hold focus on my eye throughout (watch my new vlogs to see). I find the subject tracking works really well for shorter focal lengths but i’ve had more time using these lenses with my XH2s. I would like to purchases this telephoto and use it more because the subject tracking was good, I just needed more time to practice with it. I think someone people expect to pick up a Fujifilm and it to do all the work for you, yes it has subject tracking but you still need to know how to use the equipment and also adjust the settings right to maximise the experience. Practice makes perfect. But for me, I thought it was great 🙂
Thank you and much appreciated! That’s interesting as I’ve never had a problem before with all my other lenses and actually find they enhance my images and all these pictures were still taken with a filter attached. I think it was just the specific conditions that threw it off but do appreciate you saying as I did notice an issue 🙃✌🏻
Erik is my dog and has been by my side since he was 16 weeks old and he is always there in all of my vlogs - just sometimes off in the bushes sniffing about. The next puffin vlog will have him on the boat with me 🙂✌🏻🌊🦭
Excellent video and photos! 🇳🇴
Thank you ☺️
For all those asking questions about ISO and Shutter speed used in this vlog read below…
So I am fully aware of how to balance ISO, Shutter Speed and aperture as I always shoot in manual. As you can see by all of my images used in the vlog, everything came out clear and sharp, hence again, I know how to use my camera and settings.
The reasons I used a higher ISO and Shutter Speed are as follows:
1. puffins are VERY fast, flying up to 55mph, when I used a lower shutter speed the subjects were blurred and when I put it higher they were not - go figure
Victoria ✌🏻
Nailing the shoot is what matters, and you got lots of lovely amazing pictures! :)
I really appreciate you saying, you top fella - and you are very right. Thank you so much ☺️✌🏻
Are you shooting the 150-600 handheld or with tripod/monopod?
@@wildandfreevictoria Thank you very much for the words of encouragement and information. Really appreciate it.
You take some stunning photos Victoria it’s clear to me that you know exactly how to use your camera brilliant.
This is very kind, thank you so much! And I do my best to learn my camera 🙂🙂
Lovely crisp clear shots, well composed and demonstrating the capabilities of the equipment beautifully.
Thank you so much for this ☺️ i’m pretty chuffed with how the pictures came out with the conditions and time limit I had. And to get a puffin flying! That make me happy ☺️✌🏻
Absolutely amazing photos/films. I am totally enthusiastic. All the best for you on your travels.
Thank you very much, those is very kind! And all the best for your travels too! ☺️
Looking forward to the XT5 and XH2S review. Using a XT3 at the minute. Great video 👍
Thank you for watching! They will hopefully be coming out soon! I have a review for the XH2S already but will be doing a comparison video between the XT5 and XH2S. Thanks again 🙃
Amazing photos and beautiful places. I hope to see puffins one day soon

Great review of lens and body. The footage was fantastic and really captured the birds so well. Incredible . 👍😀

you are getting some amazing photos with the XT5 wow i did not think it would be as good.. i have been using Fuji for my landscape for ages..
Aw this is really lovely, thank you! I wish I had more time to use it and get more shots, it's a fantastic little camera! Fuji is so good for landscape work too 🙃
Some photos are amazing congratulation. The 150-600 really shine with the XH2s.

Another brilliant video Victoria and again beautiful shots.🙂🙂
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and I do appreciate it 🙃✌🏻🌊
Hey, great video and I look forward to see your review of the XF 150-600mm on the X-H2S for wildlife.
Beautiful video, loved the puffins & gannets. You are lucky. I went out with my xt5 & 70-300 + tc 1.4 and happily captured a kestrel in flight.
Very well put together video , superb photography
This means a lot, my videos take a lot of time to put together so thank you for saying this. And your RUclips name is great btw! 🥕

Thank you so much for this, it’s really kind of you and brought a smile to my face as that is the most important part for me in my vlogs - just sharing the passion and enthusiasm for nature. So if you could see that, then my work here is done, i’m a happy lady. Thank you again 🙃

Wonderful video. Thank you!
Thank you for watching 🙃✌🏻
Super important question - do you need the CF express card to use all the functionalities and features on the XH2s? @@wildandfreevictoria
What the beautiful photos they are!
Lately I’m very interested in taking bird photos…
I have Tamron 18-300 only but someday I’ll buy XF150-600😊
Eric is great
May I ask what bread of dog he is please?
Yep, last year we got lucky with being allowed to land on Inner Farne. 😀
I made a little episode, and I’d be honoured if you took a little look.
So beautiful thank you ❤
Thank you for watching 🙃🌊🌈
Always a pleasure joining you on one of your amazing explores. You are Living The Dream. Very jealous 😄🙂
Cool video work and photographs. Just wonderful 😎📷
I noted some of the shutter speeds up to 1/12 thousand using the iso to 4000.
@@wildandfreevictoria camera science does this 🤪

Your auto focus is on point, what settings are you using?
Thank you!! A mixtures of the animal detection on the Fuji range and continuous focus in tracking mode - and manual focus too in some cases 🙃
What a fun time you had. And yes, Thank you for taking us along on this journey. The puffins are amazing, and Wow…. Lots of Gannets!! Love the sea birds (especially the Puffins!!!❤❤)

@@wildandfreevictoria Brilliant. Thanks Victoria. Will get out and have a go now. Have a lovely day. Cheers 👍😎☀️🦜
So clean images at ISO4000!
@@wildandfreevictoria Thanks - makes sense that tracking a small nimble bird inflight requires such shutter speeds.
That’s ok! Yes it is tricky but worth it! Someone else was asking about it too and I explained I shoot in manual and was swapping between moving and still(ish) birds as I had limited time on the island, so I kept some of the settings the same to make it easier 🙂
what month was that you were there and how was the weather? It looks great! thanks
Hello from Belgium Victoria 😊
I would like to ask you a question: for wildlife, landscape and "everyday" photography, is it better to choose the X-T5 or the X-H2S ?
I just tried adding a CPL to the xf 150-600mm lens, it DOES affect enormously, it gets super smushy, I have never seen this in any other lens ever.
Great work! Great Video! In my expirience, any Filter can cause a problem. UV-Filters are really bad if they are not top-of-the line.
I would if it creates minor reflections in the gap between the filter and lens and that’s causes the distortion.. who knows! 🙃

Beautiful. The birds were cool too….
Many thanks
@@wildandfreevictoria I figured I just creeped you out. 😂 I’m hoping to get on your level at some point. Got to make time to go out and shoot
I am curious how do you manage to get an f 4.5 on the 150-600 (4:58)- awesome pictures btw! :)
Ah it was probably a typo as you can’t 😄✌🏻
Yeah just had a look, was meant to be the Fujifilm 23mm not the 150-600 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoria aaah :D which shutter setting do you usually use for your inflight photos? (electronic and/or manual shutter)
Happens when i’m editing everything 😅 I normally use ES has you can’t use high burst on MS (if I am correct) 🙃
Hello aye have just subscribed to ur channel. And I have look at ur videos they are very inspiring to me as aye have been doing wildlife and landscape photography now since 2016
It would be amazing honour to do some wildlife photography with you 😊 in glen Coe
Thank you for subscribing and watching my video. It's great you do wildlife and landscape photography too. If you are based in glencoe then you will have some wonderful landscape photography there! keep enjoying it 🙂
Hi looking at getting the x-hs2 for wildlife, do you like it over the xt5?
Lovely Video. Ditch the filter off for sure 👍🏻
What AF-C Custom setting were you using for stills?
But for me, I thought it was great 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoriais it Good way to spend 2500 USD. 😊
Great video and images. And don't use UV filters, they aren't needed and throw off AF and image quality. Great stuff!
Thank you and much appreciated! That’s interesting as I’ve never had a problem before with all my other lenses and actually find they enhance my images and all these pictures were still taken with a filter attached. I think it was just the specific conditions that threw it off but do appreciate you saying as I did notice an issue 🙃✌🏻
is Erik a local or a new long term companion for your travels?
Erik is my dog and has been by my side since he was 16 weeks old and he is always there in all of my vlogs - just sometimes off in the bushes sniffing about. The next puffin vlog will have him on the boat with me 🙂✌🏻🌊🦭
14:32 It's the filter|
Yes I think so too! 🙃
Why you use 1/8000 and 1/12800? No need in ss less than 1/4000s to stop any motion... max 1/5600
Because I did, got lovely crips photos too. Read the pinned comment and you will understand why.
