How we Raise Pastured Pork at Alderspring Ranch!

  • Here's how we raise pastured pork here at Alderspring! Our daughter Abby and son-in-law Ethan raise their pastured pork on our open pastures, moving them frequently to fresh pasture! The pigs are kept in with temporary electric fence that can be easily picked up and moved to a new spot. Because the pigs are out on open pasture instead of in a forest, Abby and Ethan have portable shade structures to keep them cool. It's also important for pigs to have a mud wallow in order to stay cool, so Abby and Ethan create a wallow for them while still giving them free access to clean pastures to graze (yes, pigs do graze!)
You can order this clean pastured pork online at shopaldersprin...

Love it! Can’t stand when I see people claim their pork is pasture raised but they let the pigs destroy the paddock and leave them
in the now dirt lot for awhile so they are pasture raised for like 1-2 days and dry lotted the rest of the time. Keep up
    The fantastic work!

This video was filmed at an optimum time of year. I'd love to see what their paddock look like right now.

My great-grandaddy raised pigs... I want to learn how to do it too! I'm not ashamed to say a couple of my best friends growing up were 2 of my favorite little pigs! We only got to see each other over the summer until , well never mind🥲... Excellent job family! Nothing better than country life,I promise! Sharing my support from NY!

I was under the impression that pigs only root but I didn’t realize they graze. I’m not saying that I didn’t think that they never ate any grass but usually when you see pig damage it’s because they root up the whole yard.

  • @beorntwit711

Hey, from what I understood, rooting (maybe wallowing too?) can create baldpatches on pasture.
Do you even have that problem or is it more than made up for by nutrients?

Make them wallow OR YOU CAN PROVIDE SOME SHADE FOR THEM? Bruh your house got a roof, why not give them something to relax under. Not all pigs need to wallow bruh, some just need a shaded spot

You can't raise pork, you can raise a pig whose meat is called pork. Calling animals by the term of meat we have for them is incredibly concerning. I'm sure it's just a grammar mistake surely

This is very nice, but for honesty's sake show us what the paddocks look like right now? This was not filmed in February,or any month close to this. I raise pastured pigs myself, and even with the best management, I can assure you this is not what their farm looks like right now. Kind of bullshitty. Sorry but it's true.
