Employees steal things from stores by throwing stuff out with the trash and coming back after work retrieve it. This happens a lot just before x-mas.
why don't they donate the toys to kids in need. There are a lot of charities that would take the stuff.

Maybe it's hazardous? I wouldn't trust those chargers. But, I'm guessing most, if not all, of the big finds are interceptions of employee theft schemes.

When i worked in a grocery store we would throw away a ton of food, candy, drinks, sometimes toys and stuff just due to some little pice of plastic in it or wrong branding and so on. whats so stupid is that the employes never got to take anything home :( but we had dumpsters that destroyed the items instantly.

Was it just before Christmas? My Son found an unlocked dumpster full of really valuable stuff outside an auto parts store one time... someone told us that a scam done by some employees is to throw a bunch of stuff out that they intend picking up later, to avoid spending money on xmas shopping.

Depends, its not Illegal in a lot of places.
What I'd be worried about is a store clerk throwing out good stuff to pick up later after work because they are stealing stuff from work right in front of the boss's nose. A lot of store have cameras pointed where the trash is, you could be accused of being an accomplice.
Most big stores compact the trash just for this reason. Or padlock it.

I saw the VA bury instruments to die for in the 90's. Those toys cost next to nothing as they are bulk buyout sales...literally. The Mark ups are nearly 1000% so when they toss those, they are write offs and dead inventory but have been paid for hundreds of times over. I have seen so many stores do this, though actually junk, still a waste in our landfills, oceans and could be donated to needing children. I hope you guys do seek children centers and hospital sick wards to share you wealth.

Why does five below throw all that away, the electronic toys coulda been donated to charity, and many other things in there. What a waste. At least these guys found it. So those items won't Goto waste, but just imagine how many other stuff does.

because i am 99% sure they are defected in some way. there is no company in the world that just throws 100% perfectly good products in the bin for 0 reason. I worked at IKEA and you would say that they throw good items away all the time that can be used but if you did a bit of research you would find that there was reports of that item breaking and causing harm (not all but enough to do a recall) so not safe for the public, now you could get one of them and have it your whole life and nothing would happen and you might have got a good one but enough made from the same supplier were bad so they all get thrown away FOR SAFETY!!! or the other reason that we throw away what looked like perfectly good items is that IKEA themselves have a VERY high quality standard when it comes to the company's that make there good's and if a company is found to have used child laber or..... cant prove that they dont!!!! there goods are taken off the shelves and disposed of, good's that look good function perfect but where made from a place that used child laber. by taking these goods using them or selling them on you are supporting child laber, so the next time you look at a dumpster diver and say hey that is perfect think of that. sorry to drop a truth bomb on you guys but it had to be said so you know.
Chewy- so just donate them and not let them go to waste. Also if your company cares that much about child labor issues they need to do more then trash the items made by them.
all retail shops throw away merchandise that doesn't sell. Been doing it since I worked retail in the 90's as a teenager.
Because donating it costs money for the transportation to take the stuff somewhere. All they care about is their bottom line.

+Abandoned Exploration Squad Yo, if you wanna do this properly you've gotta stop naming the stores your diving at. Because once they get wind of it. They will throw a lock on the dumpster. I use to do this a lot, there are websites & forums dedicated to doing this. Trust me when I say they will lock it up. Change the name of said store with a word that rhymes with it, or use the opposite. like If it's a Home depot, call it HomeRepo We will get it, or at least the smart ones...

Sam's Club was throwing away tons of food, huge fancy cakes, you name it, they refused to donate to hungry and poor due to liability issues....unreal.
it makes sense as to why they can't donate perishable items. If someone gets sick because of the food it's going to become a huge lawsuit that they're most likely going to lose.

I found an Adidas backpack on my first dive, I am slowly filling it with things I find diving that a homeless person might need and then I will give it to a local man, it's crazy what companies throw away!

You should wait until you leave the area, and check everything out once you are home. keep an inventory of all items if you donate to any organizations remember to get a tax write off sheet. You will get a larger return. Enjoy your finds. Peace, Lorraine.

3 years ago I was dumpster at a bed bath and beyond they caught me thir security made me put everything back called cops on me and I was told not to come back or else,messed up stuffs in garbage treaten to arrest for taking their garbage..true story

I caught one of my less honest employees taking goods from my store and putting them into the dumpster for later retrieval knowing when the bins were emptied by the city. Fired and put that POS in jail. Well placed camera he did not know were there got him sent to jail.....

that other bag had some good stuff and one time I was in a parking lot in back of some buildings and I found a cassette adapter, Of course I kept it and it worked just needed some cleaning.
When I went dumpster diving for the first time at my local GameStop back in 2019... I even found a brand new pair of headsets which was freakin' awesome.
It would be good to advise ppl that dumpster diving has different laws in each state. Be sure to do your research, dumpster diving is not legal in all states. However, it is legal in the state of Kentucky as long as the dumpster is not fenced in, locked, or has a private property sign.

I love how jealous people get on here cussing and swearing. Dumpster diving is a sport man. I used to hit the ones at our apartments,I made out like a bandit every week. People would move from a house into an apartment and realize they had too much shit,so they would junk whatever they didnt want. I found two snow throwers in the trash. One worked and I used the other one for parts. I found an almost new bbq gas grill sitting next to the dumpster. I love finding treasures out by the end of peoples drive way all the time. Srew all you cussers,your just mad you didnt find the goods.

You should donate some of that stuff to homeless shelters or Christmas gift donation stations
Just to clear a few things up (although this is my own work place) as someone who works in retail, in a store similar to this one (Beach stuff, toys, Camping, make up etc). You wouldn't believe how much RC stuff we get back on a daily basis, from cars to drones, usually within 24 hours of the customer buying them. If their in the bin I'd bet most of them don't work and the ones that do either cut out, smaller range or a weaker than stated. And don't even get me started on fucking inflatables
As for people who say the company can afford to throw them out, thats not technically true. When an item is returned as defective (if its from a different company outside of the shop, for example Lego supplying a independent toy shop), one of two things can happen. One, you store it and wait for the company to come and collect it / send it back via courier. Two (the most common) you have a established relationship with the wholesaler and you tell them on the phone we've had x amount of product Y and Z back. They give you credit off your next order to their original value and just tell you to dump them. Its more cost effective for them to take your word for it, than the hassle of sending a external company to collect it, pay them, then pay someone to sort through it all.
Like, we sell BB guns in the summer, they fly out like hot cakes. We used to have dozens back a week, phone up the company play hell. Anyways, I found out these guns we're getting jammed because the kids were trying to double load, so we showed dad how to fix it if they did it. They stopped coming back :p When these guns used to come back, if they had been double loaded, the pellets have a chance to fall behind the trigger, its dead easy to fix. So we had the phone call and the value credited to our next bill. We got told just to bin them. Instead we'd fix them but they'd be more prone to it happening again, so we sold them to the local lads as defective, at a cheaper price, and they started up an airsoft club with em. Now we send the bulk majority of the metal versions over when they come back for less than what they would have cost us. The wholesaler saves money on returns, the shop gets their money back, the kids get their airsoft club and the shop also turns a small profit its all win win.
Either way it's a fuck ton of stuff to throw out though, and I'd wager a lot of it would be decent enough to give to charity.
All stores do this. Even Walmart with FOOD. The reason is because it is CHEAPER for the Stores. It's cheaper to throw it away and get new product. (Turnover) Sad but true.

Dang, a friend of mine found a brand new laptop when the students leave for summer break, and I'm not ashamed to say it. Mom and dad have so much money so they throw it away, so why not take it.
