Umm yeah love what Tork accomplished however he was nowhere near proficient on the banjo much less a bluegrass musician. Sorry to lay the truth out there. Matter of fact neither him or Nesmith were that accomplished of musicians. They knew enough to be able to get through a concert with incessant screaming by teenie boppers.
I was working as customer service operator at Western Union (yes, when telegrams were still a thing) when I was in college in the late 80's. He called in to send a telegram...I knew it was him right away. I told him at the end that I knew who he was and that I was a huge fan. He proceeded to chat with me for a few minutes. He was so incredibly nice and kind. I will never forget that conversation.
I loved the Monkees and Peter Tork was my favorite! He and David Cassidy were my first little girl crushes, lol. We watched them faithfully every Saturday morning. My mom liked it too, and Mike was her favorite cause he was a Texan like her. Good times. RIP Peter- you are missed! 😢💔
I met him in the mid 70s. I was probably five or six. I just thought he was one of my dads friends. I had no idea who he was until years later. Incredibly nice man. ❤❤
I was just 10 when the Monkees hit the air waves, and I believe we all thought they were simply great, they were typecast in a funny comedy show, that we never missed. Peter was a talented musician and vocalist, he truly was. Of the famous four boys in the band, only one remains, and that is Mickey Dolenz, their great drummer and vocalist, loved them!
I remember being the most popular kid in my class because I had their first album and belonged to their fan club. I loved them all. Rest in peace Peter. Thank you for the memories. You are missed.
I can’t believe the show only ran three years. Even John Lennon liked it. My sisters loved Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith. I thought Davy Jones was cute. Only Micky is still alive. 😢
@@castleanthrax1833oh I forgot about that but yes back in the day that's what people were saying about his mother . In this day and age some younger people might not know what that is but then again if you were to say white out they probably wouldn't know what that is either 😂
I watched the Monkeys on Saturday mornings & sang along with them. Their show was very funny with alot of slapstick comedy. Even now @ 66 I known the lyrics to their songs!!!
I hung out with Peter back stage in the hospitality room between his sets while doing the Peter Tork Project in Chicago. He was a vegetarian and did not drink alcohol. He was one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Good memories.
Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkeys. I think it was Hendrix's first tour in the U.S. First tour as a solo act. I loved watching the television show on Nick at Night. Many laughs and great songs.
Loved The Monkees since first-run! Peter was always my favorite. Adored his shy smile and sparkling eyes. RIP, sweet, gentle man, and thanx so very much, for the magic, music, and memories. Fun facts: Mike's mother was a secretary who invented Liquid Paper. Mickey was in a 1950s tv show called 'Circus Boy', under the stage name of Mickey Braddock. Davey was on Broadway, as the Artful Dodger in 'Oliver!' RIP, Davey and Mike, Rock on, Mickey, and thanx to you all, too.
I have a story to tell you my father 's oldest brother Edmond Kukulka who attended the University of Connecticut his Professor was Professor Torkleson my Uncle Edmond Kukulka and my Aunt Ruth not married at the time they went to Professor Torkleson house to get their term papers when they were there they heard Peter playing the guitar before he became a Monkee' s . He was my favorite Monkee. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was surprised to find that the show only ran for a few years. Seemed like they made a LOT of episodes. Awesome show. Loved watching it when I was a kid. Great music, too. Once you hear that theme song, you’ll never forget it. ‘Hey, hey, we’re the Monkees!’
I miss them. I miss all the gone ones. I guess only Mickey Dolenz is left. I used to watch him in Circus Boy. Peter was so talented. RIP, all of you. Your songs gave me much pleasure. 😢❤
That was my first real rock concert. my uncle offered us tickets to Elvis or the Monkees and of course we chose the Monkees. We got to see them the last night Jimi Hendrix was the opening act. He quit right after that.
I was just watching (for the second time) an interview of the two remaining members for Australian TV. Mr. Nesmith and Mr. Dolenz..... talked about their relationship(s) with Peter... I was moved when "Nez" broke down when talking about it. Having a brother whom I love dearly, but have little to talk about....it just really hit me.
He grew up in Mansfield Center, Ct his father taught at UCONN, I grew up in North Windham just a town over and never knew he lived near me and this was at the height of the monkeys career 😿💔😿
The monkees were a great band . They may not get the recognition of the Beatles or stones but they were all talented in their own right . Yep nice tribute to peter . Sydney Australia 13/8)2023
I loved the Monkey's! Underrated for sure! Seen them once at the Ohio St Fair! Girls all went nuts for them! As much as they did for the Bugs " Beatles " oups! My Bad! 😮 lol
Friends still call me crazy when I defend the Monkees as one of the legitimate rock bands of the 60s. I'm not comparing them to giants like Led Zeppelin, but they produced some really good material... Valerie, and Last train to Clarksville were d*** good songs! -Way better than half the garbage you hear today!! ❤
Rest In Peace Peter
God bless you and your family 😇🙏🙏🙏 2023 Beaumont California
The heroes of my youth are all slowly dying off. RIP, Peter.
Ikr?! It's sad and making me appreciate what years I might have left...😢
I hear ya😪
They all are....time moves faster as we get older....😢
I remember watching them on tv when I was a kid like it was yesterday. R.I.P. Monkees who are not with us.
Thanks for this tribute. He was my favorite Monkee.
I adored him! I still have my 1st 3 Monkees albums!!
Mine also!!
I like them all
Great looking guy
Mine too. RIP.
RIP Peter! You are loved and missed! I loved the Monkees!💕🙏
He was considered on of the finest young Bluegrass Musicians around. There is a video of him performing Banjo solo during a Monkees. Live date.
👊👊🙏
I didn't know this about him wow that's really cool and then I also heard that later when he took up playing the harp

Untrue. Nesmith was a GOOD guitar player @@birdwatts007

Good show. I watched it in syndication, as a kid in the 70's.
Right? It was corny but fun . Waited for the silliness and song so I could sing along. 😁

I had two favourite groups in the sixties, Iron Butterfly and The Monkees. Still listening to them, never get tired of their music.
I saw a recording of Peter picking a banjo that would put any other picker to shame. He was extremely talented.

His brother played HB for the
Green Bay Packers - "Erick Torkelson."
I used to 'root' for him in the 1970's.
Not his brother - Peter was Thorkelson with a (silent) h. His brothers were Chris & Nicky. Only Nick is still alive, along with their sister Annie.
