Ryan Taylor is an award-winning Sheffield, UK based improviser, composer and producer with a special interest in music for the moving image and interdisciplinary collaboration. Having recently graduated from Leeds College of Music with a BA in Jazz and an MA in Performance and Composition, Ryan is a current PhD researcher at University of Sheffield with an interest in how music works with science communication.
Ryan’s recent work “Aquakulture” saw him awarded with The Royal Society’s Colin Pillinger Award for Public Engagement. Aquakulture is a multimedia performance that explores the rapidly changing nature of aquaculture, it’s connection to land and sea food systems, single issue environmentalism, and deeply rooted attitudes, perceptions and beliefs in our post-truth era of misinformation. The work has been developed in collaboration with researchers A/Prof Julia Blanchard at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania and Prof Duncan Cameron at the Institute for Sustainable Food at the University of Sheffield, UK.
