A really fabulous blues singer. Bettye has that true feeling in her songs and that gutsy voice comes through in songs.

I SAW BETTYE SEVERAL YEARS AGO IN CONCERT AT PURCELL ROOM SOUTH BANK LONDON ..MAGICAL..THIS ALBUM IS GOOD ..BUT BETTYE SHOULD OF NOT INCLUDED STRANGE FRIUT..THIS IS LADY's SONG AND SHOULD NEVER BE ATTEMPTED BY OTHER LESSER VOCALISTS.

Bettye LaVette has a spectacular voice and takes a sensitive, soulful approach to the songs she interprets, whether heart-wrenching, gritty, political or uplifting. She can sing whatever she wants. I trust her to do justice to any song she sings. She's an African American woman who I'm sure can relate to and tap into the emotions, depth and significance of the lyrics and sentiment of Strange Fruit.
BTW - It's _"fruit,"_ not "friut," and _"should have"_ - the contraction of which is "should've," which may _sound_ like "of," but is incorrect. Maybe if you weren't so uptight about a singer's right to choose whatever she or he wishes, you'd *have* spelled them correctly. PS - I'm a Jazz and Blues singer with a 40-year career, and have covered many songs, but not Strange Fruit, because I'm a white woman - and that is not my story to tell.
