We are all born at different times on different dates so with that in mind whatever was on the go as you were growing up or just getting into Queen is obviously going to stick with you the most. I know myself that it was when they started to use the synthesizer I was getting interested. Songs like I want to break free, Radio Gaga. Only really in more recent years that I have really learned to appreciate more of their earlier tracks.
Robert Scott that’s my point it’s a very commonly used term but for Freddie Mercury it’s the perfect thing to say as he is the personification of a ‘one-off’.
Brendon Urie the singer for Panic At The Disco in my honest opinion is what I’d genuinely say is the closest voice to sound like Freddie. He has so much range it’s crazy (also the guy is a massive Queen fan)
I admired Taylor for his undeniable talent as a drummer, but loved him for his unapologetic admiration and appreciation of Queen. Rest in beats, legend 💜
I love how this guy actually knows his queen stuff, you can tell he’s an actual fan as opposed to just someone sitting him down and giving him a script.
I really enjoy a lot of their 80s music but their most special songs were from the 70s and that was largely because of Freddie's songwriting back then. Totally unique.
It was nice as a fan hearing a very famous fan talk about Queen in such an enthusiastic way just like a regular fan, I like that about him that’s he’s just a fan who happens to be in a massively famous band, He’s not so uptight that he won’t enthuse about another band a thing you rarely hear band members from other bands do.
I love the whole community the Foos seem to be in. All of them love their craft and really respect their peers and predecessors and speak very candidly and highly of one another! Dave and Taylor especially are always fangirling, whether it be ABBA, Queen, Bowie, Prince, or any of the bands they've played with before. They are all just apart of this big dysfunctional family of musicians and I've never really heard them talk bad about anyone either! The whole band also has a reputation for being very professional and down to earth and have never really been part of a scandal either. I really think that's a huge part of why they have been so successful for the last 25 years and hopefully another 25 to come!
Your comment so completely describes my feelings. I knew I was having a great time listening to Taylor , but I didn't fully understand why I was so enamored until I read your thoughts. (Similarly, I have always liked Roger Daltrey, but my admiration grew even more when I heard him speak about Freddie Mercury.)
"He’s not so uptight that he won’t enthuse about another band a thing you rarely hear band members from other bands do." That's not true at all actually.
This guys is like "There will never be another Freddie Mercury..." and I've seen Taylor Hawkins live and that's what I say about him. Amazingly talented musician!
It’s so obvious that he’s a huge Queen fan. He can’t hide his enthusiasm and passion about this band and I love it! He lists so many lesser known and underrated songs as his favorites and he sings the guitar riffs. I wasn’t interested in Foo Fighters or Hawkins before, but after watching this video I applaud him.
If you're interested in a very cool intro to Taylor and the Foos definitely watch Sonic Highways. It's an HBO miniseries that has an accompanying album and they go across the country to the 8 most influential American cities in music history and interview legendary musicians at each location and then record a song inspired by those interviews in the most famous/historic studio in the city! I grew up hearing the Foo Fighters on the radio but that series is what made me a real fan!
They're still amazing. Saw them in concert in 2014 with Adam Lambert, phenomenal show. Rufus and Roger Taylor did a drum battle. They're touring the UK starting May 2022! 💖
Yes, they do. Queen has been touring with Adam Lambert for a decade now, worldwide, continuing this May in the UK. They're phenomenal. Watch The Show Must Go On: the Queen + Adam Lambert Story on Netflix. Taylor Hawkins is in it. Great documentary.
I could listen to Taylor sing Queen riffs and drum parts all day long. I watch every Taylor Hawkins interview I see, because I KNOW he will mention Queen. 😝 Every time. It’s like he can’t NOT talk about them.
Queen is popular because they're all excellent musicians and cared about their fans. Freddie's voice, Brian's guitars, Roger on drums and John on bass. They're the grestest.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
There's something about the first three Queen albums that had fire, fancy and beauty in abundance. The brightest sparks of musical genius obviously followed on subsequent albums, but they're is still something special to this day about their work between 1972 and 74. When someone such as Taylor here rhyming off Liar and Ogre Battle, you know they're genuine Queen fans. Update 26/3/22 Rest In Peace Taylor. Now In the Lap of the Gods...
I’m just shocked and numb over the news of Taylor’s passing. 😥 I wasn’t a huge Foo Fighters follower but I love the band and their music. Taylor was so full of life and such an amazing drummer, singer and musician. 🎤🥁 Such a tragedy and a huge loss for not only the music but also this world. 😢 My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, friends and especially his bandmates. 💔💔💔 RIP Taylor. You’ll be missed!! 🕊
I'm in tears because Oliver Taylor Hawkins ascended to rock heaven on March 25th, 2022 - My condolences to all the bereaved of FF-FOO FIGHTERS and family
What I first saw this I was so impressed by Taylor’s knowledge about Queen. It’s always wonderful to hear mutual respect for other bands. 💛 Taylor will be tremendously missed. RIP, sir. 🕊
If he likes Bicycle Race bc it's crazy, he must love all of Queen II. That album is nuts lol. So great, no one else could come up with that. Queen rules forever!!! And Brian May is the Guv'na!!!
Brian May didn't just build his own guitar, he created his own tone. As for my favorite track and what I think their best over-all song is; One Vision. No question.
I liked this within the first 30 seconds. Taylor is just cool. I really enjoy hearing him talk about Queen because he totally lights up. So easy to see how much he loves them.
Yeh!... cool Taylor Hawkins... love expert comments on Queen... so true... Queen is just but the best musical school in the world... I still wish Taylor, that Freddie was alive today... to see you and other's that have their true quality, and standard as music artists.
His energetic, hard-hitting will stay with us forever. Rest in peace brother! We love you Taylor, gone too soon and thinking about it always broke my heart :( Until we met again...
'Liar' , first track , first album. What an introduction to the world. Absolute beast of a song and criminally overlooked. Except by this guy. Kudos to him for that.
My first CD was Queen's Greatest hits I, i would go to sleep with it on repeat every night. I know every note of every song on that album. They're the greatest band of all time. Then Fleetwood, then Pink Floyd.
I think Foos are like a modern day Queen. Was never in to Queen's music, but something pulls me towards them as a band. Have never been into Foos either, but the same applies. I saw them live once at Glastonbury and their performance blew me away. I think they actually covered 1 or 2 Queen songs.
this is why I love Taylor he is a real musician and knows real music as with Queen most Americans never really took them to heart like the Brits, so to hear a American knowing their brilliance is a sign he's the real deal
That's exactly my first memory of Bohemiam Rhapsody: I was around 8 or 9, some older kid played it on a cassette player and I remember that I thought that the "Galileo" part was funny.
Man, you are so right on. News of the World was one of my favorite albums and everything else you said. An amazing band and Freddy was one of a kind, a true great.
Well put into a pretty package with a beautiful bow, Taylor. All of your favorite Queen songs are amazing, and are in my to 25, hard to choose just one favorite is it? They are and will always be a band everyone aspires to be. They are all legends, and I’m so glad I grew up listening to them and they are my favorite band!
Finally a real Queen fan that knows more than Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You.
Hey I too am right here...😁
The real fans know!!!…🤘
Yes.hes a true Queen fan.hes knows Ogre Battle,It's Late,and Dragon Attack.
We are all born at different times on different dates so with that in mind whatever was on the go as you were growing up or just getting into Queen is obviously going to stick with you the most.

Amen. Two of my greatest loves gone Freddie Mercury and now Taylor Hawkins
This guy knew his music. Every single word he said about Queen was SPOT ON. RIP, Taylor. You were a great man.
Not fake. He knows what he's talking about.
Peter Ponjaert thanks guy on the internet, who’s obviously more reputable than him
@@goldilocks9687 You're right, Mr Aaron' Music. I should stop giving positive comments on RUclips. It is clearly out of place here. My apologies.
Peter Ponjaert thanks for seeing your fault Peter, writing positive comments is DISGUSTING and should NEVER be done. Peace ouuuutttt, I’m Aaron music
He's a gen xer, not a millennial. Of course he's not fake.
Yup. He convinced me when he clarified 'the second version' of In the Lap of the Gods.
I think Taylor’s a Queen fan
rubberneckk I don’t know. He seems like he’d be more of a modern music fan. Like K Pop
Tenement Funster ya reckon? 😅..doubt it
@@rubberneckk it was a joke. :)
lalala it wasn’t that funny

‘A one-off’ is the best way to describe Freddie. Well said Taylor.

@@charliesmith4951 I'd say Brendon Urie is closest to Patrick Stump off of Fall Out Boy. They are virtually voice twins.
"I wanted to learn Radio Gaga for the Reading Festival... just to see everyone clap like that". What a way to revere Queen.
One of the best things to bring back.
So glad he mentioned Ogre Battle. Its a very underrated track that is truly one of their heaviest songs.
Queen 2 is their best album imo, track for track it's brilliant
@@bloodsling "White man" From a day at the races. One of their heaviest.
So glad he mentioned Its Late, probably one of my favorite songs of all time
Fun Fact: If you play Ogre Battle backwards it sounds the same

I love how this guy actually knows his queen stuff, you can tell he’s an actual fan as opposed to just someone sitting him down and giving him a script.
Also, he's not just talking about the top 10 most famous Queen songs, he's going for deep cuts and songs that many people haven't heard of before.
A true queen fan who recognises that their early stuff is best
A Queen fan who has a subjective opinion on what is Queen's "best" music.
I really enjoy a lot of their 80s music but their most special songs were from the 70s and that was largely because of Freddie's songwriting back then. Totally unique.
Taylor is featured in The Show Must Go On: the Queen + Adam Lambert Story. It's still on Netflix, it's an outstanding documentary.

Yep I agree. He seems very down to earth. Just like Dave Grohl as well.
Exactly ❤❤
