    How long do you recommend leaving the original page up before deletion? I have pages with 301 redirects up for over 1 year. I think by now Google will have focused on the new page.

      Leave them up forever if possible!

      Thanks. I used to think that. I now think it's true for only https. Now I think that the Big G punishes 301s from old http URLs. They may not trust the origin site. I am pretty sure since September that is true for links. I think it might be true for old http 301s as well. What do you think.

      @@jimpalozola No, Google won't punish you for using a 301 redirect if a page has moved

      @@clickminded Thanks so much. you convinced me about the redirect itself... but if the link to the old url is coming from an now unsecure "http" site do you think it possible that Google ranks those links to the 301 redirect pages lower after the latest algorithm updates? Specifically Sep 24, 2018 changes.
