- Watch this amazing video about Omar "Crispy" Avila! Born in Mexico, Crispy came to America and grew up in Texas where he became a high school football star. Following the attacks on September 11, 2001, Crispy decided to forgo a collegiate athletic career to join the Army and fight for America. A new minted US Citizen, Crispy was proud serve and take care of his family. When his vehicle was struck with an IED in Iraq, he literally burned alive while laying down cover fire with his .50 cal to save his brethren.

I would just like to say. The video skipped over a lot of what crispy really did. When his humvee caught fire, he manned the machine gun on top until it got so hot the ammo started to cook off. At that point, he dismounted and broke his legs. A fellow soldier was dragging him to safety as crispy continued to fire his rifle at the enemy. And to top it all off. He rode in the lead vehicle to guide the convoy safely back to base from memory
