- What's better to merge geometry: Intersect with Model, or Solid Tools? In this SketchUp tutorial, Tyson walks through how to join a coffee mug to its handle in two ways (both in SketchUp for Web.)
First, he uses commands available in all (i.e. Free) versions of SketchUp: Intersect Faces / With Model.
Then he switches to the Pro version to use Solid Tool commands Trim and Outer Shell for a faster, boolean modeling process.

Between you and Aaron I have learned a lot. Great program.
Thanks Tyson, it always seems simple enough but I seem to often get it wrong somehow and spend too much time doing Aaron's favourite pastime of stitching to get myself to where I want to be.
Stitching! Stitching! Stitching!!!
That's great to know. I usually used Solids whenever possible, but sometimes it's just too much work to convert a complex object into a Solid. This Intersect With method is great.
Simple but useful. Thank you!!!
Very good video, thanks for the tips!
If I were modeling a 3-d kayak from a photo, how do I form the shape of the hull and make it hollow so it floats?
I prefer the Intersect with model method because I always get the clicks order wrong when using Solid tools.
Thanks Tyson!
Same, but Undo has been bullet proof (touch wood 🤞).
