I love SNL. I'm in my 50's so I've enjoyed it since the eighties...each decade has great characters!
ikr im 14 and the show is just amazing and good for everyone to watch. my favourite is Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader
Capricornwoman, I totally agree. I love all the classic characters from the 70's and 80's, but each cast has had characters that were just as funny.
My favorite character of all time was Rosanna Rosanna Danna. Gilda radner was awesome as that character.
Agreed, started watching in the 70s and have enjoyed many of the different eras. So many talented people have come through this show. Really miss Phil Hartman... new viewers don't know about Chase, Murray, Hartman, Sanders... or all the great female talent, I love Molly Shannon, Teri Oteri, Maya, Kristin, Kate - the list never ends... and a ton of talent behind the stage that have gone on to create huge hits. Great writers.
I’m 41 and I grew up watching it in the 80’s and 90’s, and like you have loved it ever since. It’s had slower points but always picks back up and they always have great talent. Here’s to many more years!
Weekend Update is my absolute favourite part of the show. It has been that way since the days of Chevy Chase, up to Norm MacDonald, through Seth and now with Colin and Michael. The skits may hit or miss but Weekend Update has been consistently great.
"Despite Franco's death and expected burial tomorrow, doctors report the dictator's health has taken a turn for the worse."..."Our top story tonight...Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead!"...I was 10 years old watching Chevy Chase doing stories like that, and I'm pretty sure I had no idea why it was so funny, but I really loved it. It felt like you were seeing something new and special. As funny as it can be now, you don't get that feeling with the current SNL...

I have seen many, many posts on FaceBook about when SNL was "Better". I started looking at the profiles of those people and came to the conclusion that whatever years they insisted that SNL was "Better" usually corresponded to the time when the persons age was from late teens to mid to late twenties. I think SNL targets a particular sense of humor, and makes cultural and satirical references that are relevant, and therefor funny to that age group. Also, if you think SNL was "Better" in the 70s, you probably don't stay up late enough to watch it anymore . I know that from personal experience ;)

Agreed. "SNL used to be better. Music used to be better. Milk used to be better" Haters gonna hate! There's always a few clunker skits regardless of the cast. I do love the current cast right now. Kyle and Beck, Kate and Aidy, Mikey, Melissa, Heidi, Chris...They are all solid! (And I'm old enough to have lived thru tons of different casts!)
Well said! I will say that there are phases where SNL is on fire more and that's the period where the majority of the cast have been together for a while and have a groove. Those years hit more than the transition years where long time members leave and less experienced members find their voices, but over all SNL is funny, and will continue being so because it's a lense on the modern society.
This is exactly it!! It’s the same on Twitter where I noticed it. Of course they thought it was better as a teen or in their 20s or 30s they understood the cultural references. Unless their kids and grandkids are keeping them in the loop a lot of it may go over their heads.
In the nineties the show sucked. I occasionally watched to see if a skit would make me laugh. Occasional chuckles, laughs were rare.
It shouldn’t be this weird to think about the fact that Scarlett Johansson is married to this guy now but it totally is

it takes more than just being a gorgeous woman to have to happy marriage. Her first marriage ended in divorce. Her second marriage also ended in divorce. Scarlett is not only gorgeous but also seems to be a wonderful person. And still, that didn't prevent divorce (twice).

As a new dad, I’m TERRIFIED! I just found out that 6hrs of “Lilo & Stitch” on repeat is considered normal to tiny humans. It is HELL!!! In fairness to their quips about the “struggle” of working 5-6 weeks in a row at SNL… isn’t it like a 15 hours/day, 6 day/week job for some of those guys during the season? I’ve heard crazy stories about what that work week is like.
Worked 80 hours a week for 7 months. It sucked.

Tina fey said in an interview that the long hours are gone with the current cast. She basically they’re lazy.
Yeah that’s no exaggeration, six days a week working through the nights. But they’re paid well and I’m not sure why they did that to themselves
