Weekend Update is my absolute favourite part of the show. It has been that way since the days of Chevy Chase, up to Norm MacDonald, through Seth and now with Colin and Michael. The skits may hit or miss but Weekend Update has been consistently great.

Agreed, started watching in the 70s and have enjoyed many of the different eras. So many talented people have come through this show. Really miss Phil Hartman... new viewers don't know about Chase, Murray, Hartman, Sanders... or all the great female talent, I love Molly Shannon, Teri Oteri, Maya, Kristin, Kate - the list never ends... and a ton of talent behind the stage that have gone on to create huge hits. Great writers.
I’m 41 and I grew up watching it in the 80’s and 90’s, and like you have loved it ever since. It’s had slower points but always picks back up and they always have great talent. Here’s to many more years!
I have seen many, many posts on FaceBook about when SNL was "Better". I started looking at the profiles of those people and came to the conclusion that whatever years they insisted that SNL was "Better" usually corresponded to the time when the persons age was from late teens to mid to late twenties. I think SNL targets a particular sense of humor, and makes cultural and satirical references that are relevant, and therefor funny to that age group. Also, if you think SNL was "Better" in the 70s, you probably don't stay up late enough to watch it anymore . I know that from personal experience ;)

Well said! I will say that there are phases where SNL is on fire more and that's the period where the majority of the cast have been together for a while and have a groove. Those years hit more than the transition years where long time members leave and less experienced members find their voices, but over all SNL is funny, and will continue being so because it's a lense on the modern society.

In the nineties the show sucked. I occasionally watched to see if a skit would make me laugh. Occasional chuckles, laughs were rare.
