An idea for another video. A lubrication video. Like petroleum based, Silicone, dry lube, marine grease, kit Black grease, that tube of red tacky that's always on your bench. It would definitely help some of us to be able to go to a auto store or home improvement store to get this stuff cheaper. You could talk about the technical side of it, application side, bad for plastics and rubber blah blah. I think it would help a lot of people. Even talk about what brands you prefer for what and why.
Just watched vid the second time. I do love how low he is. He looks like a spider climbing up a wall. A vert wall.. im impressed Mr.C you did the thing.
my ax24 has 33% underdrive and its turning circle is insane, with the four-wheel steer on the rear inner tire barely moves, it nearly pivots around that rear tire
Hey brotha.little winch trick is to hook your line to the rear of your bed so you already have more line extended if you have a conp clock ticking.i also petsonsonally like the look of a winch line strapped across it too lol but most wont.
Im building my ZRD right now. Hardbody is just taking longer than i had planned. Got mine right after he released them. It looks so good with his sliders. Im even more excited to finish now. Working away from home slows that process and wildfire season just started. Heli mechanic life
I just lost my Straight axle Phoenix by toppling end over end into a lake drain , instantly got sucked into an 18 “ drain pipe with only two seconds away I was too slow , bye bye brand new Hyrax tires on SSD 2,2 rims. Now I have a reason to get the VRD carbon kit e portals and then change out to the ZRD rails. Thanks for the technical inspiration Mr C , long live the Canyon. I want to take a short drive to IE one day just to try some hard lines In Your backyard. Cheers Denny
😳😳 Oh look, a new top entry in my journal of "Reasons to Never Leave the Canyon." How short of a drive are we talking? To 'Muricans, "short" distances are relative.
Thank you for responding Mr C . I live in Westminster, my Mom lives in Menifee. I still have a couple of Element enduros , one has a Hobbywing fusion 1200 KV , it needs only a ring and pinion for rear axle. I thought I’d take you up on the offer to do the thing at your Canyon. Lmk what weekend would be good for you. IM me. Also have a Gatekeeper builder kit in early stage of build. I need those VRD rails for a Gatekeeper. I work at Long Beach Va and plan on starting an RC crawling club for my fellow veterans similar to Charlie Company. Thanks for the consideration , I’m a fellow Missippian , been here in Cali since 1978. I appreciate the way you think bro
I just received my newer and much improved over the straight axle Phoenix, the VRD STANCE and I’m proud to announce you were right, the STANCE portal rig is like 3 times better than my strait axle Phoenix . IM me Mr C so I may side hill your entire back yard ‼️
That's absurd. It's like those toys you throw at the wall and sticks then slowly flails down the wall but never falls nor slips. Imagine how cool it would be going up the wall.. or terrifying. It's like when you tested other type rc car wheels and was having an existential moment.
i have a scx24 c10 and i made winch out of an emax servo.i cut the flat end of the main shaft that turns the sensor that recenters the servo and glued the sensor at center. it will 12:59 quite easily, but with worm gear axles it is hard to use because of complete drag brake, you have to give it throttle to get it to move
Dangerous plants sure liven things up a bit. I live next to a fairly large forest, several abandoned mines with really fun spoil heaps and a bunch of derelict abandoned farms & villages. Stacks of places to have fun with the crawlers. There are several areas that I avoid as there are open mine shafts, sink holes collapsed mines and things like toxic / poisonous fungus and deadly nightshade. Taking the crawlers and offroad rigs 'into the hills' You really need to keep your wits about you and be aware of the dangers that are lurking to catch those who are less aware. Have fun but stay safe!
Cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria! I don't think the VRD would benefit from straights. The loss of gear reduction is something I do not care for.
I have both and its worth a canyon test day and more sudo science comparison, you dont notice the gear reduction, yet do a small lack of ground clearance which is to be expected. also had a mess with 80 and 90mm shocks on the VRD. no one really needs it! yet its good to have eh!
My buddy 3 Flow 9 has some of the baddest ass winches hooks they're titanium in their like a grappling hook but it's got like this teeth on the back of it and teeth on the hook it is the sick as hell
You can slam a VRD even lower. Just move the front upper links. Shim trans 2mm, v notch the ESac tray and front servo mount and it's super low. So low the chassis is on the axles. Pen springs int he front 90mm shocks. 100mm shocks in the rear mounted wide. You now have a spider.. I'm pretty impressed with it. 7lbs but comes down anything. Side hill is crazy.
Putting the bend at the skid makes a little elbow crook for rocks to get caught in. I want a straight line coming off of the skid-- but I don't have any spider-wasp hybrids, so that might change in the future. I just know I prefer the way rigs will slide with the short bend at the axle.
Not yet. This is the third set I've done, and they're spread across a variety of wheels. Other than some recent terrible tires, I haven't had any come out of the bead in a good while.
So it's a servo winch that doesn't have an internal winch controller? When it comes to winching in a comp, I really like the variable knob so I can get it at a slower speed so i can let the winch run while driving. There are times when you can't just have 100% fwd, then stop, then drive, then pull...etc. When on the trails it doesn't really matter for speed, but if i'm alone I want the anchor and with others I want the hook. I use fishing connectors on my hook/anchors/line so I can swap easily. I mounted my winch just in front of the bumper, with some simple L brackets so the majority of the servo is hanging down below the rails. What do you think would happen to the CG if you had the stubby kit, out runner, and BTA servo? Also wheelbase is supposed to be 322 on the VRD
If you wanna get into that real compy-winch stuff you might as well go MT12 and put mix on mix on mix. JP Wirt's setup can mix winch and throttle, a whole bunch of stuff. I don't winch, so it's all meaningless to me. I'm up to (in the fleet) four or five winches and I never use a single one of them. As to the CG, I can scale the VRD without it's bug body (just set the Cliffhanger on top of it) and we'll see-- it has all of those things.
I'm about to get the same radiolink remote to use the switches for my phoenix and have a 3 way switch to use the dig, neutral, 4wd and 6%od, neutral, 47%od. I have a futaba 4pv and for the last year and a half I can't find anyone to explain how to make a 3way switch that I knownits capable of doing. So getting the radiolink because I like the solid 3way switches that are not digital easy to hit switches also. But also would like to use that winch function on other rigs one day.
Zoku. It's a marked improvement over the stock rails, doesn't require new parts, and comes with sliders that are 8000% better than the horrible stock ones.
I'm not sure a Phoenix is where I would start with 4WS, but it's not a terrible choice. Cab-only is a lot easier to work with, same for centered-pumpkin SOA. But it could absolutely be done.
@@CrawlerCanyon I was looking at some f-9/capra-ish axles. they're center diff, soa, and only 47 bucks a pop. that is why I'm wanting to do a 4ws build...lol
I'm as surprised as anyone. He did his homework. The CG is one of the lowest I've recorded for a setup of this type-- portals, Class 2 tires, full body. I still think it's a hard maybe for a VRD, but an absolute no-doubter for a Stance RTR.
It happened again, I fell asleep on the couch In front of the live stream, the joys of being an old man lol
❤ isn’t that the truth! 😊
I did too. Getting old sucks.😂
🤣🤣🤣 At least I know I'm not the only one!!
Better there than the drivers seat. So that's a win to me! 😱😁

That paint job keeps getting better every time I see it. Well done!
Can't have too much Crawler Canyon on a Friday. Zoku sure makes some nice rails. And it has a widdle winch!
I do love watching another installment of Crawler Canyon and the live stream!
Whoa. I don't think I've ever seen that steep mountain peek before. He looks great sitting on top of ole smokey..... Amazing zrd

I would love for you to do a video on how to set up the the radiolink.i want to learn how to turn on an off lights and use a winch
I would love a vid like that as well.
That thing is a beast! Point and go! Can't wait to start my zrd build. Awesome video Mr C!

Best use for a Reedy ESC.

The ZRD drives beautifully, when are you installing the Vanquish dig on the back of the transmission 😅
Looks good, now we need a straight axle version. just waiting for my zoku to arrive for mine.
What the deal with everyone turning a VRD into a straight axle and a SCX10 Pro to portals??? LOL

Daaaaaang. ZRD is a beast.
Wow. I really want some zoku rails now.😅 I thought I would just run my VRD as is.
Ya need a bloke wit a stick fa da winch to hook onto, pay my airfare ill doit fa free 😅😂

The body will sit lower, but the CG will be higher. The ZRD is lower, not just cosmetically lower.
What's your take on link bend orientation? Why is it better to have the bend near the axle?
Putting the bend at the skid makes a little elbow crook for rocks to get caught in. I want a straight line coming off of the skid-- but I don't have any spider-wasp hybrids, so that might change in the future. I just know I prefer the way rigs will slide with the short bend at the axle.
Haha great vid you are inspiring more tuning, question are you having any issues with the Injora pins coming off the wheel? I’ve got 2 that debeaded

Can one run the Zoku rails with the VRD hubby kit? Thanks and have a great day
Yes, he makes a stubby skid. I'm running that on a ZRD mullet.

Have you tested the red and black injora shocks,90mm-120mm
I have not. They have come down in price, but they're still not enticing enough with the Chavtechs at $20-25. Those Injoras used to be like $40 a set.
What shocks are you using on your zrd?
From all the VRD frame rails you've tested, which one is your favorite? And why?
Zoku. It's a marked improvement over the stock rails, doesn't require new parts, and comes with sliders that are 8000% better than the horrible stock ones.

Late to the party but how do I find cgh? Where can I find the calculation

I know this is not anywhere in the ballpark of what you are doing here right now, but you should get some redcat ascent rtr tires and try them

do you think 4ws on a zoku phoenix is overkill?
I'm not sure a Phoenix is where I would start with 4WS, but it's not a terrible choice. Cab-only is a lot easier to work with, same for centered-pumpkin SOA. But it could absolutely be done.

And there’s the chainsaw on cue😂
If you look into the yard, you can barely tell they did anything. They filled 3 massive dump trailers, and the yard looks almost exactly the same.
That winch seems stronger then my 100$ nsdrc rs400 winch.
Pretty much the only drawback to cheap servos is speed-- they don't tend to be very fast. But finding a winch to beat that one for $22 is a tough ask.
